UPDATE - WE'RE FULLY FUNDED!
Wow! Thanks for all the support over the last few weeks!
If you've missed the opportunity to help fund this game, then fear not! You'll be able to get the latest news and updates on how to purchase it on our website www.zombiedoctor.co.uk or you can hunt us down on social media.
Zombie Doctor is a fun and frantic card-turning game. Amputate, reattach and swap limbs in a desperate bid to stay alive. It's your turn not to turn!
You're stranded in a hospital during the zombie apocalypse. Will you help or hinder your medical colleagues? Each player chooses a character and tries to keep him or her alive for as long as possible by using special cards. These cards can have a fantastic or gruesome effect on limbs.
The game is designed for 2-4 players (preferably 4), lasts for around 60 minutes and is suitable for ages 15+, due to the comic zombie gore.
It's small enough to fit in your pocket and is suitable to play at parties or if you have a spare hour with friends and family.
The game is easy to learn but the elements of luck and strategy will keep avid board gamers entertained and challenged.
We are providing FREE SHIPPING on all UK orders as well as low shipping costs for the rest of the World. We are also absorbing all the custom charges/taxes, so the price you see is the price you pay!
There are two new rewards available!
Be In The Game - Simply send me a good quality head shot and I'll be able to turn you into a zombie! Plus it doesn't have to be your head, it could be a friend or family member if it is a gift.
Please note - as this is just your head being produced, in some cases the skin tone will not exactly match up to the base characters.
Classic Horror Expansion Pack - the expansion will be four iconic horror characters that can be mixed with the original characters from the base game, or played with as a standalone game. Pain or Gain Cards from the base game will be needed. You can learn more about it here.
D-Infinity got there hands on a 2-player review copy of the game and cleverly adapted it to have three people play online instead of using a physical copy! It's not exactly how the game should be played, but they picked up the mechanics very quickly and had a lot of fun!
'The mechanics of the game can easily be picked up in five minutes or less, and are simple and robust enough that they can be extrapolated upon...the game begins with some tit for tat exchanges until grudges have been thoroughly formed, at which point the ill-fated doctors begin to have gruesome things happen to them. It is paced well, and makes for an excellent party game.' - Brendan Cass, d-Infinity
Hi, my name is Colin Hutton. I am the sole creator of Zombie Doctor. I have over 10 years' experience in graphic and web design, as well as having a children's book successfully funded on Kickstarter two years ago.
The idea of Zombie Doctor had been rattling in my head for over a year before I started work on it. I had the initial idea of using cards as body parts, but no story to go with it. It was only when I was watching the last season of The Walking Dead that it clicked, zombie body parts!
This was a good start, but there needed to be a fun mechanic in place to allow players to remove cards and swap them. My wife was watching all of Grey's Anatomy from start to finish, and she would tell me about some of the disgusting and outrageous surgeries. It dawned on me that a hospital would be a fantastic setting for this game, as it would give a reason for these characters to be chopping off limbs and sticking them back on! Thus Zombie Doctor was born!
I had created a very crude version of the game and did a lot of testing to make sure the balance was just right. I then spent quite a while designing and illustrating the characters. There are a lot of zombie games and comics out there with a very similar visual style. I wanted to stay away from that and opted for a more retro cartoon feel. I think this makes it more appealing for a wider audience.
I then had a full, high-quality prototype made by Print & Play (a division of Ad Magic). The quality of the cards, box and rulebook just blew me away!
So I'm very happy and proud to announce that Ad Magic, the people who manufactured amazing games such as Cards Against Humanity and Exploding Kittens, will be printing the game for me.
The game has been playtested many times; with friends, family and strangers. I think it hits the perfect blend of balance, skill, luck and most importantly, fun!
The scheduled delivery date for the game is April 2018, but this should be the absolute latest it will be. It takes a couple of weeks to receive the funds from Kickstarter and then another fortnight to have proofs made and checked. It can then take up to three months to print and ship the game.
Risks and challenges
As with any project, there are risks. However, I am very confident this process will run smoothly. I have been through this process before with a previously successful Kickstarter campaign, so I have a strong understanding of costs, time frames and potential hidden costs.
All the artwork has been completed and is good to go, it is only the printing and shipping which will add significant time to the completion of the project.
Nearly everything is being manufactured by one company, a very successful and well-established company, so I'm sure they will be timely and efficient.
