Hi everyone, my name is Chiara and I am here to present my project, Anima. I started to work on this comic book several years ago and when I met Emanuele Tenderini and Linda Cavallini, the authors of Lumina, I decided to try the way of crowdfunding.

Helped by Coffee Tree Studio, Tatai Lab and Fontegrafica, I am very happy to present...
Anima is an exciting journey that will take us through the emotions of the protagonists Anima, Hormon, Oblak, Nebe, Alastor and others, leading us in enchanted and always different worlds, where we will meet fascinating creatures and mysterious places populated by amazing entities, demons, monsters and spirits.
Anima is a fantasy graphic novel, a fantastic and funny adventure full of emotions, colors and madness. A story contaminated by videogames like Kingdom Hearts e Zelda and the Japanese style of Gainax, FLCL Evangelion, Kill la Kill, Gurren Lagann, the masterpieces of Miyazaki.
If you pay attention you can also find some references to US productions like Adventure Time and Steven Universe, where improbable elements and magic reign supreme.
In this first book we will read the story of Marco, a young boy trapped in an obsessive and depressing routine, who is suddenly catapulted into an alternate reality, the Village. A fantastic place inhabited by strange magic creatures, where reality is in a constant and whirling transformation. Anima, a chaotic "demon hunter", will force the protagonist to face himself with his deepest fears, starting an obscure fight that will put him in front of his inner demons, in order to overcome them and become a new person.
The plot
Marco is an out-of-course university student, he left his band after his girlfriend dumped him and he works in a supermarket to pay his rent.
Unmotivated, Marco looks to the past and never to the future. Monsters with familiar faces keep him awake at night. Something eats him up slowly from within, quietly and without mercy. Marco is slowly losing himself until one day, suddenly, something falls down from the sky: a giant whale crashes on the supermarket. From that moment everything changes, reality is altered, Marco's monsters become real!
In all this chaos, something else comes from the sky, Anima, who'll kick the monstrosities that torment Marco's life.
Anima, indomitable demons hunter, will totally change the life of the boy, carrying him into situations where he will have to face incredible challenges.

What you can buy
The book of about 100 pages will be printed in two languages (English and Italian) by the awesome Fontegrafica, one of the best typography in the world (click here to see the list of awards).
They will use a high definition multi-chrome technique that will improve the colors of the book, giving you a totally new experience on printed paper.

The Artbook will be the collection of the artworks of Chiara and Lorenzo
The pins will have a diameter 38 mm and you will have the possibility to choice the pin you prefer with your reward.

Anima
“You humans are all the same. All complaining and never doing anything but waiting for someone to save you by and to lift your burdens. When the hell will you start taking your own responsibilities?!” - Anima
Anima is a chaotic and unpredictable Demon Hunter. She usually despises human beings and brings destruction wherever she goes, not minding about the consequences at all. Unlike her fellow hunters, she doesn't want to destroy the Demons. She prefers to tame them and take them on her side, in order to obtain protection and special powers from them. She is impulsive and naive. She's got lots of skills, though she is no good at relating with others.
Marco
"What's up, Marco?"
“...Meh.”
When Marco dropped out of college and started to work as shop assistant at 'Suppa Market'; his life subsequently became boring and meaningless. He is such a clumsy guy and often gets involved in awkward situations, which always leaves him with a bitter taste in his mouth. Lately his personality is getting worse, making him apathetic and cynical. Something from the shadow is slowly consuming him; who knows what it could be?
Hormon
“There's not enough sugar!” - Hormon.
Hormon is a despotic haughty Muse. Muses are Demons who live among humans and therefore develop an Ego and a personality of their own. She gets her power straight out of other people whilst they're feeling some kind of deep emotion. Oh! And let's not forget about the huge amount of sugar she eats every day (marshmallows is her favorite). She can affect emotional states making people feel good and giving them an amazing energy boost. The trick she enjoys most is to play with someone's libido and then absorb energy out of that. Despite her cute and cuddly look, you'd better keep your hands off her: she bites.
Oblak & Nebe
“If you followed the rules, our support wouldn't be necessary.” - Oblak.
Oblak and Nebe are two identical twins, raised and educated to become two high-level killers. They always carry out every mission perfectly, as if they were robots. They're also honeslty devoted to their boss. Despite working as a pair, Oblak has a strong personality, while Nebe totally lacks one instead. Lately they've been looking for Anima, who caused them troubles wrecking their flawless curriculum.
Alastor
“Balance is the foundation of existence. Very important choices must be taken in order to protect balance. If you can't judge, let me do this for you. Trust me with your life.” - Alastor
Alastor, better known as “Metal Witch”, is an eternal warrior considered by many people a demi-god. She decidedly believes in justice and equality and acts upon these values; someone believes she has thrown her own heart away attending to her duties. She has no mercy for people that get in her way. She belongs to an organization that protects the human race, but even though she receives orders from above, she will always choose what to do by trying to be as morally equal as possible. She usually work alone but lately she started working with a couple of apprentices under her guidance; the only two that could survive her cruel training method.
Rama
“Could it be funny without some kind of challenge?” - Rama
Rama is literally a demon-hunter genius; unfortunately with a strongly obnoxious nature. He only accepts interesting or well paid jobs and abandons every mission that could fail his standards in terms of challenge. Besides, he has no respect for people he doesn't find exciting at all. Despite how many fans (and lovers) he has, he prefers to live on his own just with the company of Hāthī, the robotic secretary he made with his own hands. Hāthī, besides managing his planner and business contacts, keeps count of all the videogame releases during Rama's working periods; Rama will then shut himself up in his house for months to catch up, playing all those games until he has completely finished all of them.
Tesla
“Woopsie. I broke the internet again.” -Tesla
Tesla is a gifted researcher, his major field of study is the relationship between demons and humans. His studies are brilliant but they often cause controversies. He looks ambiguous and unpredictable but his role into the science community makes him untouchable and safe from consequences; a famous organization protects him while he conducts studies on human beings trying to find the Truth out: the key of the evolution.
Tesla really loves keeping in touch with humans and spends a lot of time chatting with them on social networks, so if you had found a viral phenomena or a huge debate about something, you could be sure he was in the core of that mess.

How we will use these funds
Anima will be drawn and colored by Chiara and Lorenzo (the colorist). Each page will require 3-4 days of work, a total of 360 days for the whole book (about 100 pages).
We will print the book in collaboration with Fontegrafica using a high definition 100 lines printing technology and a custom multi chromatic coloring solution which will improve the colors of the book. This technique was already used for the World of Lumina book with a great success (click here for more details).
The funds will be used in the following way:
- € 6.800,00 for taxes and Kickstarter fees
- € 13.100,00 for drawing, coloring and editing Anima
- € 4.600,00 to deliver the rewards.
- € 20.000,00 to print the books and create the gadgets.

Ciao a tutti, mi chiamo Chiara e sono qui per presentare il mio progetto, Anima.
Ho iniziato a lavorare a questo fumetto alcuni anni fa e quando ho incontrato Emanuele Tenderini e Linda Cavallini, gli autori di Lumina, ho deciso di provare la strada del crowdfunding.
Aiutata dal Coffee Tree Studio, il Tatai Lab e Fontegrafica, sono felice di presentarvi...
ANIMA è un fumetto di genere fantastico, ricco di personalità, emozione, colori e follia.
Libro d’esordio di Chiara Zuliani, giovanissima autrice tout-court che ha curato ogni aspetto della sua idea: dal
soggetto, alla sceneggiatura, dal disegno al colore.
Stilisticamente riconducibile ai moderni codici orientali, con un segno fresco che strizza l’occhio agli anime e un’impostazione narrativa tanto europea quanto giapponese, Anima è un libro vivace, fresco, pulsante.
La storia
In questo primo libro seguiamo la storia di Marco, ragazzo incastrato in un’ossessiva e deprimente routine, che all’improvviso viene catapultato in una realtà alternativa, il Borgo, un luogo fantastico abitato da strane creature magiche dove la realtà è in continua e vorticosa trasformazione.
Anima, una caotica “cacciatrice di demoni”, costringerà il protagonista a confrontarsi con le sue più profonde paure, in un’oscura lotta che lo metterà di fronte ai suoi demoni interiori, con lo scopo di vincerli per diventare una persona nuova.
Tema portante del libro è la presa di coscienza sui propri limiti e il superamento di questi ultimi.
Nella sua completezza, Anima è un lavoro immenso e profondo: nel corso dei diversi volumi,
conosceremo diversi protagonisti ognuno con i propri problemi e le proprie divertenti psicopatie.
Un puzzle di personalità, di cui Marco è il primo tassello, che andranno a comporre un quadro
sempre più grande e sofisticato.
Il progetto
Anima affonda le radici estetiche in tutto quello scenario magico che spazia dal mondo dei
videogiochi, Kingdom Hearts e Zelda in primis, al mondo dell’animazione: Evangelion, Kill la Kill,
Gurren Lagann sono alcuni dei progetti più cari all’autrice.
Lo stile tipicamente orientale e il gusto per la cultura del Sol Levante sono da sempre stati fonte
d’ispirazione: nelle tavole respiriamo la delicatezza e il sapore del maestro Miyazaki
ma anche forti rimandi a opere della Gainax come FLCL e Punta al Top 2! Diebuster.
Molti stimoli anche da produzioni americane come Adventure Time e Steven Universe, dove
elementi inverosimili e magia la fanno da padrone.
Anima sarà un albo a colori, di circa 100 pagine in grande formato, stampato in alta definizione da Fontegrafica, tipografia italiana d’eccellenza nel mondo che ha stampato anche il volume Lumina e Ernest Egg.
Un libro coordinato da Coffee Tree Studio e diretto artisticamente da Tatai Lab, ormai una garanzia di qualità nel mondo delle auto-produzioni targate Crowdfunding.
Come useremo questi fondi
Anima sarà disegnato da Chiara e colorato da Lorenzo.
Ogni pagina richiederà 3-4 giorni di lavoro, per un totale di circa 360 giorni per tutto i libro (circa 100 pagine).
Stamperemo utilizzando le tecnologie di Fontegrafica di alta definizione a 100 linee e una colorazione multicromatica personalizzata che valorizzerà tutti colori del libro.
Questa tecnica è stata precedentemente utilizzata da World of Lumina con grande successo (Clicca qui per informazioni).
I fondi verranno usati nel seguente modo:
- € 6.800,00 per le tasse e Kickstarter
- € 13.100,00 per il disegno, la colorazione e l'editing di Anima
- € 4.600,00 per la spedizione
- € 20.000,00 per stampare il libro e creare i diversi gadget.

Risks and challenges
Anima will be a great project and I will take care of every detail.
The principal risk and challenge is to finish the comic book before September 2016.
To avoid delays I will be helped by Emanuele Tenderini and Linda Cavallini (two famous Italian comic book artists and authors of World of Lumina project) during the whole creation process.
However during the time after the crowdfunding campaign, Coffee Tree Studio team will communicate continuously with the bakers to keep them up to date about the project status using not only the official newsletter but also social networks and Youtube live streaming.
