COBI upgrades your bike and improves your life. Its advanced technologies and smart design are geared towards one purpose: enhancing your biking experience. Here just a few examples:
Maximum enjoyment with minimum funding. We offer two versions: one for Standard and one for e-bikes, each tailored to suit your equipment. Both upgrade your biking to the next level. Since e-bikes² already have a COBI-compatible controller, we're able to reduce their upgrade price a little. Rejoice analog bikers, you on the other hand get our new and elegant, made-for-COBI Thumb Controller and a high-capacity Battery Pack on top.
Driven by passion, bonded by experience and united by vision. These are our four bike-loving and tech-savvy founders who share one dream: Reinvent biking.
One mission, one team, and only one cadence: full speed in top gear. We started as lean as possible. No fancy furniture or foyer. Nothing to distract us from our calling. This allows for high paced communication, problem solving and prototype iteration.
To up the quality, we upped the competence – by screening the market for partners with a proven track record in their prospective field. To add even more innovation expertise to our founders' 60+ years and ensure that every aspect of our product, its production and the procurement is to your utter satisfaction.
Risks and challenges
While COBI is undoubtedly an innovative product, we have many years experience working on the cutting edge. Therefore, we have forged partnerships with specialist companies in all critical areas of product development. These precautions, together with the prototyping carried out to date makes us confident that we can contain and manage risks associated with software and hardware development. The remaining risk factors relate primarily to the parts of the project we can only begin in earnest following a successful Kickstarter campaign. These are:
Supply Chain Risks
COBI is a complex product involving many parts. While we have a team working on sourcing and supply chain design, delays may occur if we encounter longer than expected lead times in part delivery.
The outdoors can be a harsh environment and to ensure COBI works in wind, rain and on rough terrain, we will be conducting rigorous testing in simulated conditions. We will not begin final production until we are fully confident that the product will perform perfectly in real-world conditions. While we have allowed time for this testing in our plans, the outcome of the first iterations is hard to predict. But while testing may take longer than we can anticipate, we are certain that the results we need are achievable.
Following the pre-series production run, we will be submitting COBI for the certification required by the relevant authorities in the territories we will ship to. These tests are mandatory pre-requisites for delivering COBI to our customers. All are standard tests with which we are familiar, but that does not completely remove the risk that we may face delays if we have to rework any parts of the product to reach compliance.
COBI will ship to Kickstarter backers via the same logistics chain that we will use for subsequent orders (with the exception of the Dev Kits, which will be sent earlier). We will only book shipment slots once this system has been established – it’s not rocket science but it’s not without challenges either.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
