Get ready for the Showdown: Starcadians vs. Arcadians!

Starcadians, report in!

Today we’re very excited to bring you an electrifying piece of news! The construction has finished (mostly) and the one thing that Starcadians from all across the Galaxy have been anxious to experience (other than Bacca-Tacos) is ready! Given how many threats the Galaxy sees and the consequent number of proud mercenaries and warriors that circulate the Starcadian Alliance, a special arena has been in development, where Crews can bring their best to test out their strength and hone their skills!

The geniuses at the No-Nonsense Expert Research Division (NERD) have at long last completed their greatest creation: The Hollow Deck! Choose from a library of adversaries, friends, or frenemies to battle against their Hollow-Image! Even figures of legend from Ancient Arcadia can be brought to life with their bizarre powers and abilities updated to the latest technology! It’s the perfect workout tool for extreme adventurers looking for extreme exercise in an extreme environment! Best yet: It’s perfectly safe! … Well, okay, the fire is real, and the lazers, and the swords, and the bullets…. Okay, look, bring some band-aids and antiseptics, but no one ever dies! … Well, usually. Brought to you by NERD Megacorporation: Where science isn’t mad, it’s downright furious!

Starcadia Quest: Showdown is a brand-new expansion that complements not only Starcadia Quest but also plugs into the Arcadia Quest series as well! Showdown is not about going on an arduous quest to defeat evil monsters, no siree! Showdown introduces a new mode: full Player-versus-Player deathmatches that will see players draft & pick all-new Upgrade tokens and enter a vicious arena to battle enemy Crews!

Starcadia Quest: Showdown comes with:

  • 1 Double-Sided Game Board
  • 4 Crew Dashboards
  • 84 Hero, Pet, and Mount cards
  • 1 Upgrade bag
  • 70+ Upgrades and tokens!
  • 1 Rulebook

And backers who get the Starcadia Quest: Showdown during this Kickstarter campaign will also get the Kickstarter Exclusive Hero Needles, including his figure and Hero card!

Being a Fencing Master does bestow upon one a few advantages. For one, you can chop your spicy tacos faster than anyone else. Then there’s the fact that hitting an enemy with precise, up-and-close strikes actually diminishes their defenses. Yep! Life’s not bad for a Fencing Master.

Needle's resin figure.
Needle's resin figure.

Now let's further explore this expansion!

The action in Showdown takes place in a Double-sided Game Board, with one side designed for 3-4 players, and a 2 players version on the back. With its tight corridors and sharp turns, the Crews (and Guilds) will see themselves immersed into non-stop action! Only 1 Stimpack, 1 Recharge Token and 2 Computer Terminals are still functioning in the arena and sometimes become contested hotspots. In Showdown, the Crews don’t claim Victory by accumulating Victory Points: the first Crew that manages to score 3 Kills is deemed Victorious!

Thanks to the Hollow Deck technology, Starcadians can conjure up the legendary Heroes from ancient Arcadia to test their mettle! With 60 Hero cards and 4 Crew Dashboards (sporting an appropriately battle-damaged look and slots for Pets and Mounts!) players with any Arcadia Quest core box (Classic or Inferno) or with the Starcadia Quest core box can join the Showdown! Cards for Heroes from the following Arcadia Quest series boxes are available in Showdown:

  • Arcadia Quest (12 Heroes)
  • Arcadia Quest: Inferno (12 Heroes)
  • Arcadia Quest: Beyond the Grave (2 Heroes)
  • Arcadia Quest: Pets (2 Heroes)
  • Arcadia Quest: Riders (2 Heroes)
  • McHammer
  • Hassan
  • Leeroy
  • Yun
  • Nibbles
  • Zahra
  • Haldor & Brenna
  • Tiaret & Mittens
  • Aeric
  • Farfalla
  • Mamba & Rosh
  • Viola & Crash
  • Anvil & Valma
  • Yona & Kuruk
  • Masmorra core box (5 Heroes)
  • Masmorra: Adventurers Set (5 Heroes)

With an amazingly diverse and large roster of Heroes, the Crews prepared special weaponry for Showdown, featuring 70+ new Upgrade tokens! And of course a full PVP environment demands a new way for players to gear themselves up. At the start of the game, players will randomly get a set of Weapon, Reaction, Passive and Boost Upgrades and put them on the Upgrades bag. From there, they will shuffle and draw Upgrades creating 4 piles with 6 Upgrades each. The Upgrades in each pile are then revealed and players get to pick from them in order.

With new cards for Heroes, Pets and Mounts from the Arcadia Quest series available, these Characters can leave the Showdown arena from time to time, crossover into a Crew and travel through Space to fight off Thorne in the Starcadia Quest campaign!

For Starcadia… and Beyond!

One thing came to mind looking back at this...

Will those 70+ new upgrade tokens be compatible with the normal SQ game? Are they just duplicates of items in the normal game (or slightly altered for PvP use) or are they new and unique items?

It might be worth getting this if they were new items that could be swapped into the normal game to add more variety. If that isn't the case, maybe they could change it so that it was and I bet there would be a lot more interest in this add on.

Otherwise, I just don't see the cost being worth the 1 extra hero, a double sided board, and a bunch of cards that you don't really need to use your old characters (since it seems that none of them were really changed).

Will we need a Starcadia set of dice in order to be able to play Showdown? Can we play it let's say with Inferno dice?

    3. Missing avatar

      Kodesh on

I looked through the original AQ and Inferno heroes. For most of them I don't see any point with a crossover kit. They can be added as they are. Some even have the same ability as the examples above.

    4. Gabriel Ginani Ferreita on

      @Guilherme Goulart
Is it possible to use the upgrades from this expansion on the base campaign?

      OJB on

I would like to play PVP with a monster team
I would also like this board to be in a few quest scenarios to get total value from it

    6. Jon Pryor on

      @Lance,

Should be good to go, simply Proxie the mini's you may be missing and play with the cards from the Starcadia Base Game + this add-on ^_^

looks like a easy way to add heaps of variety to the PVP game scene.

    7. Lance on

is this playable without contents from previous iterations of arcadia quest? like i don't have the minis but can i play it anyways? think like the treasure chest from rum & bones second tide!

    8. Jayhad on

An add-on allowing the playing of monsters would be awesome! To play undead or dragon would be tons of fun!

    9. Jayhad on

Any way to expand this to allow 6 players? One of the limits is playing AQ more is when more than 4 people show up. Seems like it allowing 6 in this mode wouldn't break anything. Thoughts?

      CAVAILLES on

Any chance to have updated monster card from AQ and AQI ?
It would be awesome to blast demon and undead with lasgun in a ghost starship.

    11. Rand Chua TL on

To buy or not to buy? Hmmm

    12. insider714 on

Hey Guile, what are the odds of adding the Inferno Angels to the playable roster?

The character Knives comes to mind. I do like me some Trigun. I'm in.

The themes don't fit, so it's not going to be pretty to use AQ in SQ.

@Guilherme Goulart - Masmorra Adventurers set please... I didn't get it during Masmorra ks since it was supposed to go to retail but never did. :(

    16. Aegir on

@Guilherme. That's a shame, but thanks for the reply.

I've purchased some of the mini's through coolminiornot.com, but I would have liked these purchases to have contributed to the campaign total.

What about adding playable monsters too. I would love to control a Hammer Beast Man in the arena!

      Johnnie on

@Guilherme Goulart - Thanks for the reply. I did not backed Arcadia Quest, Inferno, and Masmorra as Kickstarter and purchased them only through retail. Some of the retail products are rarely in stock and the Masmorra's Adventurers Set has not been released in retail yet. Do you know if the Adventurers Set will be released in retail at all with an estimated time for that?

    19. Philanthrofist on

This is either going to be a good thing or a bad thing. The completionist in me, is always going to know i dont have the arcadiaquest characters (i imagine some are KS exclusive also)... which means i may have to drop my pledge, or i will only have a half game all said and done. people who backed the arcadiaquest riders campaign, did they allow you to add on the arcadia quest ks exclusive content? maybe history will tell me if i should drop this or keep backing.

      @Will B.
Officially, they won't work in the main campaign.

    21. Will B. on

Will the upgrade cards that come in this also work in the main campaign?

    22. diversionArchitect on

Man I cannot believe how much is packed into this. I’d love to see more arena variety- but being able to port basically every AQ retail item into SQ for $25 is amazing. I can’t believe we even get the a la Carte heroes. Easily my favorite campaign you’ve done. So many great surprises!

    23. Guilherme Goulart Collaborator on

@Johnnie @Aegir: Currently there are no plans to offer the classic AQ or Masmorra products as Optional Buys.

    24. Steve on

      +1 To what Johnnie asked.

    25. Aegir on

@Guilherme Are there any plans to add the models for some of the heros in this expansion as optional purchases to this campaign like in the Arcadia Quest: Inferno campaign? I can understand those from the game boxes not being made available, but the likes of McHammer etc. can be quite difficult and expensive to track down. Adding the here would help those wanting to buy them as well as adding additional funds to this campaign.

Can we have some of these previous Arcadia Quest products as add-ons? Masmorra Adventurers set and blisters

The quote reminds me of the movie Highlander said by the Kurgan, but this character model does not remind me of the movie very much.

    28. WILE.E on

I’m a bit sad I won’t be able to use all those KS characters from my Hell of a Box which I’ve spent the last six months painting...

    29. Forsetius on

Sting from Dune was also my first impression.

    30. Steve on

Also, it would sure be nice if there were Massmora expansion sets available.....

    31. Guilherme Goulart Collaborator on

@Helder Gattoni Medeiros: Having the 4 Crew Dashboards serves 2 purposes: one, they will have slots for Pet and Mount cards; two, they allow players who own Arcadia Quest classic or Inferno to use their content to play Showdown. Plus, they come in battle-damage Arena visuals :-P

    32. Steve on

      Is this Sting from Dune!?

    33. duz_machines_84 on

Ya, this one seems a bit meh to me. The pure PvP probably won't see much action at my table and the AQ characters in the SQ setting don't do much for me.

However, at $25 it's a pretty easy impulse add-on and all those new cards would offer the ability to proxy the heroes I don't have...

    34. Walli \ʕಠᴥಠʔ/ on

      Is he fron Trigun?
      Vash brother?

A shame I dont have any arcadia quest games

    42. Sebastien (Space Pirate) on

Even if I doubt i will play often this mode with my group, it would be super cool to bring that at my gaming club. plus the use of pets (I have played the mount yet) is really neat. Now, we want pets with a space theme (little robot, xenomorph, ET, etc...)

At least it looks like it won't have any of the KS Exclusive Arcadia characters, which is smart. I don't have any of those (or the games for that matter, wouldn't have been able to back any of them anyway, which is a big reason I don't like KS Exclusive).

    49. Wiganer34 on

I would love to see full PvE (solo or Co-op)
