Dagon, the Master of Depths, climbs ashore!

Iä! Iä! Investigators fhtagn!

The Servants of the Deep have been unlocked, ready to serve their underwater master!

From the murky waters, an elder god rears its ugly head.

Our next couple of Stretch Goals will bring a new Elder One to challenge dominion of our world, and offer brand new challenges to the investigators!

When we reach $1,710k all backers will get the Kickstarter Exclusive Dagon figure, in all his massive scaly glory.

And reaching $1,800k we'll unlock the  rest of the contents needed to bring Dagon into the game, including Monster cards, Mythos cards, unique tokens, and its box.

Dagon is the "lord of the deep" and he is the master of the Deep Ones. His overarching ability set slowly turns investigators into Deep Ones, and lures them into the sea, from where they will never return.

His Stage One ability summons Deep Ones at all gates whenever he advances on the summoning track, and gives each Investigator an "Innsmouth Look" token (the "Innsmouth Look" is an euphemism describing people who are slowly turning into deep ones).

Investigators have two ways of getting rid of the revolting Innsmouth Look tokens consuming them: either by destroying Deep Ones... or by dying.

Dagon's Mythos cards can transform Cultists into Deep Ones and "spends" Innsmouth Look tokens on investigators to hinder them permanently (by locking out a high level skill of their choice, putting a wound token on it, turning their companions into Deep Ones, etc).

When Dagon is finally summoned, he starts pulling players towards Deep One monsters (which also makes other enemies follow) and he starts flooding spaces if left alone too long, possibly drowning the entire map.

Without a doubt, this is the happiest “Dagon” I have ever seen.

@Thiery - Much (very possibly most) of HPL's fiction was 1st person narration, quite often by people driven over the edge by what they encountered.
As such, it's fairly easy to consider them as unreliable narrators. Put this with the fact that there may be additional information that they weren't aware of and that we don't know exactly how the mechanisms in this game work, and there should be no problem with Dagon maybe having some form of influence to transform people into Deep Ones. It could even just be a way to start some of the transformation or a way to advance a transformation started some other way.
Yes - In The Shadow Over Insmouth it's interbreeding that brought about the transformation, but that may not be the only way it can happen. AFAIK HPL never said that there was no other way.
(Note I'm not saying that there are multiple ways, just that, for the purposes of a game where the Old Ones are waking and you can dispel them with a shot to the face, it ought to be possible to suspend disbelief about the details of Deep One transformation!)

Nice Dagon, Id' rather have a bigger older Old one, but at least we may be getting another Old One.. Please CMON we want more old ones and monsters.. investigators die fast and are less enjoyable

    4. olerock on

this is what we want, CMON! less investigators, more ungodly abominations! that aside, this looks phenomenal.

Shouldn't there be more stretch goals unlocked for 1800K? Zombicide Invader had 32 stretch goals unlocked for that amount and had cooler characters and monsters for that level. Dagon would only put us at 19 and barely any new enemies? Seems like we are getting short changed since the 1st day out it was skyrocketing by the hardcore fans, but now its stalled out and we don't have as many stretch goals to look forward to as compared to other CMON games.

    6. Christopher Bragg on

@Salvatore - They won't be doing that anytime soon, look back through previous campaigns and stretch goals - this will 100% be met and won't take long to fill either. Splitting it across two stretch goals is annoying but hopefully allowing a more complete goal after. :)

    7. Salvatore on

you should reduce the gap between the stretch goal...otherwise iy will take long time to unlock
them and less in numbers for the backers

Wondering if You ever read Shadow over iInnsmouth. Since When Dagon can change people into Deepone when it pleased him? People from Innsmouth turned into deepone because they are hybrids because deepones like to reproduce with humans. That's why some people from Innsmouth turns progressively into deepone. They don't turn by magic.

If it would be possible to respect a minimum the mythos settled by Lovecraft. Dagon Turning investigators into deepone WTF????

And what's this Dagon??? It looks like Asian an dragon with tentacules to say "looks it's Cthulhu mythos, there are tentacles". From Lovecraft Dagon supposed to be a very old Deepone like Mother Hydra not some kind of snakes with tentacles. Not a big fan of this expensions. Except for the deepones figures that would be useful for other Cthulhu games and Call of Cthulhu RPG.

They've announced a KSE for the Thing on the Doorstep? Or is it the Dunwich Horror? Colour Out of Space? Haunter of the Dark is a personal fave, is that it?

It's nothing new. They did the same with Hate and Rising Sun. Yeah, it would suck if you were left with part of a functional gameplay set, but I don't think I've seen that happen yet. They know what they're doing.

TBH, I'm shocked with the number of things already unlocked and included with the base pledge. I'm also happy more episode/elder combinations will be possible, and that more seem to be coming.

@ Tomasz: I am totally with you. That decision does not make any sense at all except making the gaps between the real stretch goals bigger. :/

    24. Tim Carpenter on

I'm with some of these other comments. Would they seriously just give us a monster with no means to include it if all pledges suddenly stopped? It certainly seems like filler instead of actual content.

Am I the only one who thinks that adding a monster and rules for it in two different stretch goals is stupid? I know that at this time both goals will be reached but what if at some point we get only the first one?

It seems alot of people are conflating lovecraft’s usually rather scant descriptions with descriptions from the games such as the rpg and works by other authors, this dagon does fit lovecraft, but so does also the giant toadlike being from the rpg.both are valid depictions of dagon.

Meh, if I don't like the sculpt I'll use one of the many Dagons I have lying around. Just keep giving me that sweet game content.

    34. Drew on

Lovecraft based Dagon (roughly) on an ancient Babylonian fish-god. Babylonian depictions of Dagon vary quite a lot- and sometimes they disagree with Lovecraft's assertion that he had arms:

      https://i.pinimg.com/736x/f1/b8/2f/f1b82fc4ebbfde366b422a2ef743f37e--rainbow-sky-dagon.jpg

    35. Drew on

@Henning Schulz- I've just found Lovecraft's description of Dagon. here goes:

"With only a slight churning to mark its rise to the surface, the thing slid into view above the dark waters. Vast, Polyphemus-like, and loathsome, it darted like a stupendous monster of nightmares to the monolith, about which it flung its gigantic scaly arms, the while it bowed its hideous head and gave vent to certain measured sounds"

So, Dagon is large and has scaly arms (of some sort).

One of the misconceptions people have about Lovecraft is that he was very descriptive. He certainly used a lot of words, but he mostly expresses a feeling about the crazy alien god rather than giving us details.

There were, of course, other authors who have described Dagon. Chaosium chose a humanoid fish-man shape (and Chaosium's interpretations are the ones most accept) but I've read descriptions of Dagon that make him seem more like a Plesiosaur.

    36. Henning Schulz on

I don't like it at all. Would have been nice to stay close to the description of Lovecraft. This is a chinese sea serpent,

      This is the good stuff!

@Art - In all of Lovecraft's writings a giant Deep One gets called Dagon by a guy who wouldn't actually know what Dagon would look like. In the extended Mythos Dagon is often just a title for the oldest male Deep One. As far as I'm concerned anything goes.

    40. Greg Phillips
      Superbacker
      on

These deep ones and Dragon definitely do not stick to Lovecraft's descriptions of them. Dragon and Hydra are both very large bipedal Deep Ones.

      Lol, Dagon . . . Not.

    42. Art Steventon on

      I don't like it.
In all of Lovecraft's writings, and those that followed, Father Dagon is a HUGE Deep One - not a Wyrm of any kind. I'm all for keeping things fresh, but this is a pretty big departure from the Canon.

    43. Daniele on

Glad to finally see a new Old One with relative expansion <3

Even if it's more a worm that a big deep one as Dagon

    44. jbanker on

Fingers crossed for Mi-Go and Ithaqua as a stretch goal. I'm doubtful that they would add other Old Ones, like Shub-Niggurath or Yog-Sothoth without giving them some kind of boss content.

    45. vautravers on

@Mark Jonny Konrath true that but I hope we'll still see at least some Hydra, Nyarlathotep and Shub Niggurath in upcoming SG's (one can dream (in a sunken city)).

@KS and @SFG SUCK ASS! Read my bio

CMON offers retailer pledges, which I'm doing for Zombicide: Invader and Death May Die so that I can support my favorite game store. You don't have to back here on the KS, though it helps with the stretch goals, however giant Cthullu is probably exclusive here though since it'd be a retail nightmare I'm sure.
