Hi, my name is Saheed Fawehinmi and I’m a full time Visual Artist based out in the DC Maryland Virginia area. I’ve been involved in the arts for a very long time and everyday is just as exciting as the first time I ever picked up a pencil to draw.
As an artist, I subconsciously feed off the universe’s energy to create that which I feel resonates with the people.I have this fascination with drawing exactly what I see, particularly and noticeably in my portrait work. Though it requires a great deal of time, patience, practice and discipline, the end results are what inspires me to continue in my pursuit of becoming an excellent portrait artist. For me personally, striving to capture the emotion, core, essence of something/someone that already exists is very exciting and I'll keep practicing, as I intend on mastering this particular style of art.
WHAT'S YOUR PROJECT?
The name of my project is Celebrate Mother’s day 365: A Portrait A Day. This series will serve as a token of my appreciation to mothers from all walks of life. The place that a mother holds in a child’s life is universal. And even though the words might be written or pronounced differently in other languages, it all means the same everywhere. I’ll be drawing a portrait a day for 365 days, celebrating mother’s day with pictures/images provided by guess who, YOU!.
The picture can be a picture ofYOUR MOTHER, A SOON TO BE MOTHER, YOUR GRANDMOTHER, or A WOMAN YOU SO HIGHLY REGARD AS A MOTHER. Your direct involvement is key and necessary in order to bring this unique project to life. I'd like to use portrait art to celebrate the everyday mothers of the world, as well as document different lives and discover the thread of motherhood that ties us together as one. The primary purpose of this project, besides sharpening and enhancing my skills as an artist, is to celebrate, inspire and connect with everyday people that I share this commonality with, which is practically the world.
I’d like to kickstart this project on Mother’s day month in the U.S (May 2013) and have it completed by the Beginning of May 2014. This project is opened to everyone from around the world, so feel free to participate in this exciting year long project.
For those who pledge to be a part of one of the days on the 365 days project, you’ll be assigned a specific day for me to create your original graphite pencil sketch and have it featured on my Celebrating Mother’s Day 365 blog, that'll be specifically created for this project. Then I mail it out to you to have and keep.
Because I have the daunting task of drawing several portraits within a specific time frame, the portraits will be more of a sketch. Below is an example

All portraits for the CMD 365 days project will be drawn on a 9x12 Bristol drawing paper.

The thought of drawing a lot of portraits, 365+ to be exact, is scary but exciting at the same time lol. The time itself to accomplish this goal is a challenge, but because I've experimented with sketching a portrait a day, well before putting this project together, I like my chances of being successful. I genuinely have a passion for drawing portraits and I think that eliminates any risk or doubt about completing this project. With that said, my only concern would be things I have little or no control over such as being under the weather. but through whatever adveristy, I'm confident I'll presevere. I truly believe this is the ideal project that will help improve and elevate my skills as a pencil portrait artist, as well as connect directly with people who have inspired this project. LET'S GOOOO!!!!
