The Arcane Cocktail Enthusiast #2 continues the story of Lark Leraar, who is both a powerful sorcerer and the owner of the Arcanist Bar in San Francisco. When Lark realizes that dark magic has crept not just into the drinks but has infected the new guy Bill, she and her best friend Naomi undertake a dangerous mission to save him. Meanwhile, Bill meets a member of the Arcanist's house band with a mystical secret of his own.
We made our goal, but there's LOTS more amazing stuff to come from The Arcane Cocktail Enthusiast. We're announcing the first few stretch goals here, but there are a whole slew of them planned, and we'll release info on them as we get closer to each one.
New Pin Design added!
If we hit $5000 before we get to the end of the campaign, we'll add the Chimera Head Enamel pin to every rewards package that features the Logo Pin, as well as making it available in the Add-On Store, coming exclusively for backers at the end of the campaign. These super cool pins really bring Davide's work to life, and we can't wait to share them with you!
Stay tuned to the project for more stretch goals in the final week, as well as additional limited rewards tiers, and the launch of the Arcane Cocktail Enthusiast Add-On Store!
This first easily unlockable reward will add some great art to all reward tiers. We'll add an All-New 4th sticker design to the Sticker Pack, and add the pack to ALL PHYSICAL REWARD TIERS. This new sticker image is a spoiler for issue #2 so we won't show it here, and it will come in a sealed envelope to prevent giving away the secret!
For Digital only rewards tiers, we'll add art from both the sticker pack and the comic to a the new Digital Download Rewards pack including desktop wallpapers for laptops, tablets and phones with original art from the comic!
The first of our awesome bar swag stretch goals, every PHYSICAL rewards tier will include 2 matchbooks from the Arcanist Bar itself. While Lark and the Arcanist Bar don't allow smoking of cigarettes on bar premises, these are also perfect for lighting candles for eldritch rites, or illuminating your way through secret passages or darkened ancient shrines!
If we hit this goal, every backer receiving physical rewards will now get The Armadillo Jackal short story as a physical print mini-comic! That's a whole extra book in every reward package.
Those who backed digital only rewards tiers will get a second totally free comic from Cloudwrangler Comics as part of their digital packages. Everyone wins!
This very special goal will unlock a SECOND Exclusive Print from artist Blacky Shepherd! Blacky is an old friend of the Arcane Cocktail Enthusiast team, and has worked on some stellar comics like Vampirella vs ReAnimator and Pumpkinhead with Cullen Bunn. If we hit this tier, his art print will be available in all tiers that include the Don Nguyen art print. Not only that, but at this level we'll add the Don Nguyen print to ALL physical reward tiers. Digital reward only tiers will get a digital version of BOTH images to add to their desktop and tablet wallpaper rewards. That's a ton of great original art added to every backer's rewards! This are may also feature on exclusive alternative covers of The Arcane Cocktail Enthusiast #2, stay tuned after the campaign for the limited availability of those books.

It's all ages adventure and excitement that not only explores enchanted places but current themes around respectful treatment of the environment and sustainable and ethical food practices. Jeff Rider is a writer living in San Francisco who publishes his comics in print and digitally at CloudwranglerComics.com and on ComiXology. Jeff has been telling stories since he could talk, loves collaborative art in all its forms, and believes passionately in diversity and inclusion in storytelling. In addition to Arcane Cocktail Enthusiast, he’s the writer of the period thriller Major Holmes & Captain Watson with Ismael Canales and the sci-fi adventure Gravity Matters with Sean Dillon, and many more comics to be collected in an anthology of shorts coming this year.
Davide Puppo is an illustrator living in New York and working as a freelance cartoonist. He was born in Italy and he inherited the ambition of the Renaissance masters, but he focuses more on comics rather than boring paintings! He is firmly dedicated to drawing stories that make readers smarter, open-minded, charismatic and highly imaginative. He has recently graduated and can’t wait to immerse himself in the world of graphic novels.
Anthony D Lee is a British colourist. See the "U" there? He's classy. The extra U stands for "upscale quality," which Anthony delivers with his rich, vibrant tones. Anthony has worked on books for Image, IDW, Devil's Due, and another Cloudwrangler book "Major Holmes and Captain Watson." When asked how he approaches colouring something like A.C.E, he replied "Ummm... how did you get past my security?" Anthony lives in the wilds of England with his cat. They probably have adventures. Those whacky Brits.
Cardinal Rae letters comic books, graphic novels, and other comics related things. She is the letterer for the 2019 Eisner nominated book Crowded from Image Comics and a long time Cloudwrangler Comics collaborator.
Noah Sharma is a freelance comic editor located in Brooklyn. A former intern for Papercutz comics, he's worked with us at Cloudwrangler Comics, Gnosis 33, & more. He has also written for 6 years at Weekly CBReview & Comicon.com.
We're stoked to present some amazing rewards for this campaign.
All New Bonus short comic!
One of the things we're MOST excited to bring everyone is the exclusive new short comic The Armadillo Jackal from Jeff Rider and Keith Grassmick with letters by Micah Myers. It's a story of magical retribution for a beloved Texas icon that refuses to be hunted for sport or profit. While Lark's mission is to protect the magical creatures and peoples of this world and beyond, some of them end up taking care of themselves.
This exclusive new story (which may or may not be set in the A.C.E. universe...) will debut with this campaign, and every backer who gets a copy of Issue #2 will also get a DRM free digital version of this comic. Stretch goals will include PRINT versions of the mini-comic as well! Check out the preview pages here.
Monstrous Art print by Don Nguyen
We'll feature an exclusive art print from artist Don Nguyen (Pablo the Gorilla) with art coming soon. Don loves to draw creatures, and he's been excited about tackling ours since Jeff and Davide hung out with him at Wondercon this year!
Killer Bar Swag
Naturally, there'll be some killer swag from the magical Arcanist Bar itself. Our enamel pin features Davide's Arcanist logo design, for those who want to subtly show they know the Arcanist's magical secret. There are also some new designs to the ever popular Cloudwrangler Comics sticker collection, check out the art from Davide and Keith Grassmick below.
Everyone knows that comics don't get made cheaply. When I created this book, I wanted to make sure that the artists got paid for their work up front, and at a fair rate. 80% of the money raised during this campaign goes to cover costs, cash that goes straight to the talented folks who made this story so awesome to read and look at. The rest are costs associated with the physical production of the books and other rewards like enamel pins, prints, etc.
Risks and challenges
So far the risk and challenges to A.C.E. #2 are very few. The full-color artwork is 100% complete, lettering is also complete, and the only thing left is book layout and the time required for printing and shipping. The additional digital and comics perks like prints, cocktail menus and enamel pins are all currently in production.
These orders will come in the heart of what creators and printers refer to as "Con Season" so there can sometimes be print delays, but we'll be as open and transparent as humanly possible during that phase. However, we're working with a printer we trust, and this is unlikely.
This is also our third Kickstarter and is similar in scope to our previous project. Those projects funded quickly, and all digital and physical rewards were shipped within the promised deadlines, less than three months after the end of the campaign. I learned the value of making sure that the comic is almost entirely complete before launching a campaign means a really quick turnaround time and rapid rewards delivery. The few hiccups from our earlier endeavors became teachable moments for this one, so I expect even more smooth sailing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
