This project is all about creating a line of unique dice designs.
We here at ClockWise Studios are super excited to announce our first Kickstarter project: Six Sided Summoner: A Clockwise Dice Project. On a recent episode of our podcast, we spent some time brainstorming a game that incorporated specially designed dice as figurines. Well we got so obsessed (read: excited) about the idea of dice that represent creatures that we got to work on designs right away. After a couple months of design work with our illustrator, we are happy to present a series of custom made dice designed to represent some of our favorite fantasy creatures: The Cockatrice, The Leviathan, The Kitsune, and The Spider Queen. All classic creatures that we think deserve a little more time in the spotlight. Each dice side is designed around a part of the creature so that, when combined, the dice give the impression of a full game piece or figurine.
Who Are We?
We are Billy Rouse and Corey Lang. We are a couple of pals who are trying to get a start in the indie board game scene. Together, we are ClockWise Studios. This dice collection is our very first project and, hopefully, a stepping stone to greater things. If you want to know more about us, feel free to head over to our website!
Each die is designed after a different creature. Most of the backer rewards are different quantities of dice! Pick your favorite(s) and give us a creating something awesome. Also note that shipping in the United States is free as part of our Kickstarter campaign!
All backer rewards are also shipped with a handwritten thank you note.
Body of a large rooster. Serpentine Tail. Turns stuff to stone.
A nine tailed fox.
*Those of you who have actually heard of this creature before, probably noticed that we pronounced it wrong in the video. We are aware. Sorry about that*
Exactly what it sounds like.
The images above are just previews sent to us by the manufacturer. You may notice that some of the orientations are a little strange (the Kitsune's feet being over its head for example). These issues have been corrected in the final version.
In addition to the dice, we have a few other neat rewards that will be exclusive to the Kickstarter Campaign. For starters, if you back at any tier that gives you 2 or more of each design, we’ll give you exclusive playtester access to a game we our working on right now. We’re planning on this to be our very first board game release and it will incorporate these very dice (and some other neat stuff as well). We’ll update you with progress on this game as we design it, and provide you with print and play versions of the game from prototype to finish. You can find more information about it here. Please note that this Kickstarter is exclusively for the collectible dice. The pledges made for this campaign will not affect any of game design projects. Also, if you become a playtester, we are not promising a finished board game (though we certainly hope that’s what we’ll end up with).
We also have a handful of limited edition plush dice chests. These dice chests are designed and hand stitched by Billy. They also take a long time to craft, so we only have a few available. Get em while they last! Finally, you may have heard about our podcast, Talking Clockwise. It may have even been how you got here. If you back at the podcast tier, we will bring you on for an podcast segment and talk about the gaming topic of your choice.* We’re going to have a whole episode dedicated to our Kickstarter community. It’s gonna be great! *note that we have final approval on any topics. We will veto anything that we think is inappropriate for the podcast. Your favorite wrestler is probably not a great topic. Then again… that could make a good board game….
For the time being, we only have 1 stretch goal: At $5000 we will commission our designer to create illustrations of each of our creatures. What’s even better is that we will send mini prints of each creature die you ordered completely for free at all backer levels! These prints will only be available as part of our Kickstarter campaign.
Once the Kickstarter campaign has finished, if we are fully funded, we will be offering additional dice as add ons to your existing backer tier. Add on dice will be $3 each.
All of our dice are manufactured by Q-Workshop. They are a custom dice manufacturer with a history of great support for Kickstarter projects. We’ve already seen some excellent prototypes. The downside? Custom dice are expensive. But we completely believe that the quality is worth the cost!
Risks and challenges
Well, this is our first project. Thankfully, it's also a relatively simple project. We already have all of the dice designed. We have seen prototypes and we're thrilled with them. Essentially, all that's left to do is get a large run of dice manufactured. And this project consisnts of only one product from one manufacturer. Q Workshop has a history of quality work on board games and they've done a lot of kickstarter projects as well. We have been communicating with them a lot to get all of the details nailed down and we are very excited to move forward. So short of everything getting lost in the mail, we don't see any big issues.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
