About this project
Hi guys, and welcome to our Kickstarter page for our digitally illustrated children's graphic novel! We are Angela (the writer) and Alex (the artist).
This is the story of a lonely young girl who dreams of being an astronaut, who makes a wish on a shooting star to go to the moon.
Luckily for her the star is actually a star pixie who is having re-entry problems and crash lands in her bedroom.
In return for helping him, the pixie decides to take Vicki to see his home on the moon - but first they will need to pick up a few things along the way...
Alex's Story: I was an IT guy who really wanted to be a computer graphics artist. I'd fix computer networks by day then go home and do computer graphics until I dropped.
Eventually I landed my first gig as a junior artist on a science fiction TV series. It. Was. Awesome. I'd go to work and spend my days blowing up spaceships and animating asteroids and laser beams.
I went on to work on movies and commercials for the next decade and a half. It was challenging and fun but it was always for someone else, always some other person's idea which I'd work to make real.
And that wasn't really why I wanted to do this stuff in the first place.
Angela is a writer and musician and together we found we spent so much time bouncing ideas off each other that we decided to start our own production company and start making them real.
And here we are!
The idea for the story came about back in July of this year when we were brainstorming ideas for something to work on together. I had a dream when I was a kid that I never forgot - an image of a little kid meeting a glowing star in his bedroom one night. The idea caught with Angela who came up with the story and by the end of the day we bought a corkboard and filled it with index cards detailing the basic narrative.
Then we set to work and the result, still in progress but becoming more realized every day, is here :)
This Kickstarter project is up for 30 days, and during this time we hope to collect $5,000 for the ipad edition of the book.
We will be working hard to finish the story’s art by the end of December, so that the e-book can be completed by the start of the new year and printing production of the exclusive hardcover edition for backers of the $50 tier and up can be completed by springtime.
Your pledge money will be used for: purchasing necessary software, registration fees, software and hardware upgrades, buying tools, renting render machines, paying the app developer. We are doing the best we can with the one computer we have, but we need help.
We cannot complete this project without you. We will love you for it. Please support us so we can make this beautiful story and beautiful artwork become a reality. This story has real potential to go in so many directions, this first comic and beyond. Please help us make our first wish come true.
THE ART & ARTIST
Richly and uniquely illustrated, each panel is a full screen HD frame fully realized using the same CGI techniques and tools as in major feature films. Alex Scollay, the illustrator, has worked for 15 years in film, television, and commercials, including projects such as Farscape, Superman Returns, 2012, and Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland.
These pictures will fully display in high-res HD on your ipad or Android screen. If we are successful with this launch, we plan to eventually Kickstart an interactive edition with animated panels, sound effects and narrator-mode.
For now though, we are keeping our goal modest and we will be producing a fully digital simple static-image ebook version (exclusive limited edition printed hardcover edition available for backers starting at the $50 level!)
ALL OR NOTHING
Kickstarter utilizes an all-or-nothing approach to project funding. Our goal of $5,000 must be met within 30 days in order for us to receive any money. You can pledge any amount (even just $1) at any time during those 30 days. Only when our goal is reached will your credit card be charged and incentive rewards will be fulfilled.
To donate, please click on the “Back This Project” button at the top of the page.
Thank you very much for your support!
Risks and challenges
We do not have many risks, but we do face many challenges in our weeks ahead. The greatest concerns and challenges are ensuring the highest quality artwork, highest quality of the print books, and timeliness of release, for both the e-book and print.
It is very important to us that our backers receive their rewards as soon as we are able to produce a finished product. We are obliged to keep up with ever-changing digital tablet technology for future iterations of the e-book and (hopefully) interactive app and sequels. We have big plans for where these characters and this story can go, and it is our responsibility to keep up with ever-evolving tablet technology and our fans' demands.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
