THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HAS PLEDGED SO FAR....
WITH ONLY A FEW DAYS TO GO.....
PLEASE HELP US RAISE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!!
WE HAVE TO FEED THE CREW!!!!
WE HAVE JUST HIT THE £9K GOAL WHICH IS JUST AMAZING! THANK YOU EVERYONE!! WE STILL HAVE A NUMBER OF DAYS LEFT, SO HAVE ADDED ONE MORE STRETCH GOAL IN ORDER TO TRY AND RAISE ANOTHER £1,000 TO TAKE OUR CROWDFUNDING TOTAL TO AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!!!!
With so many folks wanting to pledge (when they have been paid at the end of the month)... we thought it was only right to extend and stretch our goal from £6,500 to £8,000! Well, we smashed through that in a few days!
The main reason for the stretch goal is to help with Post-Production. Some of it (of course) is covered in the initial goal, but any extra will go towards Sound Design and Editing....and feeding the crew!! As most of you know, I usually do the sound design and editing myself, but this script has touched so many people and some of those people want to be involved in this project! The type of people who have worked on BAFTA winning and OSCAR winning films! And I would absolutely LOVE to involve them.... not just because they bring a wealth of experience, but because they are lovely team playing folk! As this project becomes more exciting everyday,... I think it's worth going all out to try and produce the best film we can!!
Over the weekend I received some feedback on the script from Slamdance Film Festival - Which has been voted - One of the Top 50 Film Festivals in the WORLD(!) by Movie Maker Magazine. The feedback reads as follows:
'The characters have distinct voices and I really appreciate the detail that this writer has used to color the dialogue— i.e. the scratchy wig is described as being made from “the hair of 1,000 dead Barbie dolls!” I felt I knew exactly what kind of guy Maisy’s dad was from the little tidbits that she told Mrs. Foster — which is really impressive, particularly for an off screen character. This piece is funny, heartwarming and bittersweet. '
The first stretch goal was smashed by the wonderful Harriet Thorpe who took us to £7,000! Thank you Harriet, you'll also receive a T-Shirt of course....AND the £8K goal was smashed by our latest gorgeously amazing Executive Producer Caroline Jay Ranger! Thank you sooooo much... you will of course receive a T-Shirt and a very special gift!
We have some time/days left so we want to try and get to one more stretch goal....... If we manage to get to £10K the person that gets us there will win an exclusive Clever Little Films (UK) T-Shirt and a super extra special gift!!!
So please pledge, please share and keep having a #CupHalfFull
THANK YOU... MUCH LOVE & BEST WISHES Mark x
THANK YOU FOR VISITING THE 'MY WEEK WITH MAISY' SHORT FILM CROWDFUNDING PAGE!
HELLO: We are Clever Little Films (UK) aka Dawn Buckland & Mark Oxtoby. A wife & husband, Award-Winning screenwriting and filmmaking team. We love creating and sharing brilliant stories and providing a platform for Actors, Crew and Creatives to share their amazing work!
THE PROJECT: Written in 2018 and set entirely in a chemotherapy room, 'My Week with Maisy' is a beautiful reminder to look at what we have....rather than what we have not.
The screenplay has already Won 9 Awards and received a further 3 Nominations, including: Winning 'Best Short Script' & 'Best Dialogue' Awards at the Queen Palm International Film Festival (USA), 'Best Short Screenplay Award' Winner at the Breakout Shorts Awards (UK) and Mark also received an 'Honourable Mention Award' for 'Excellence in Screenwriting' from the New Renaissance Film Festival (London). The Screenplay was also Nominated 'Best Fade Out' by Oaxaca Film Festival in Mexico (Voted one of the top 50 festivals Worldwide by Movie Maker Magazine). In early 2019 an American Production company approached Mark and made a very generous offer to purchase the screenplay. As thrilling as it was to receive..... Mark politely turned down it down. We believe that 'Maisy' deserves to stay here... a true British comedy. As some of you will know(?) in 2018 life imitated art and Mark was diagnosed with skin cancer. Although it was caught early, Mark pretty much lost his entire nose during the process and he has been through numerous operations so that the plastic surgery team at St Thomas Hospital London can build him a new nose using skin from his forehead! You just couldn't make it up! Fortunately, Mark is now cancer free and at the time of writing, is well on his way to recovery.... but you can see why this means so much. Now, more than ever.
MY WEEK WITH MAISY: So what's it about?......
Mrs Foster, a retired, middle-class Daily Mail reader, whose cup is half empty, is starting chemotherapy and is understandably anxious. The last thing she needs, is to have to share the treatment room with a 'know it all child' who wants to grow up to be a lesbian! But through an unexpected friendship, Maisy Jones gives Mrs Foster much more than just a glimmer of hope.
FUNDING: One thing we learned from making our previous films, is that whatever you think the budget will be ....add several thousand on top and then you're still not there! With a script that everyone is so excited about....and with some incredible talent attached to the project (see below) we require a budget of around £20,000. We have already secured £10,000 from a (very generous) private source and having reached our £6,500 initial goal in just 9 days(!) and then £9,000 a few days later...we are now stretch funding/crowdfunding for a further £1,000 to take this total crowdfunding target to £10,000! Any amount remaining to make up the budget will of course be put in by ourselves, if we are unable to secure grants/funding elsewhere.
ATTACHED TO THE PROJECT: We are absolutely thrilled to announce that the absolutely brilliant BAFTA Nominated Lynda Baron (Open All Hours, Eastenders, Road to Coronation Street etc etc) is attached to the project to play the leading role of Mrs Foster and we intend to audition and search for an absolutely incredibly phenomenal child actor to play Maisy! Also onboard is the wonderful Lauren Logan who will be playing the role of the Nurse. (Lauren played the lead in our last short 'Blood Means Nothing' and has since won 2x Best Actress Awards for her performance in the film). Dawn will again produce for Clever Little Films (UK) whilst Mark (who as you know has written this beautiful script) is again at the helm as Director. Well, he has had cancer(!) and also he did win Best Indie Filmmaker at the Los Angeles Film Awards 2019.... so we'll let him!
AND (as if that is not enough) we have creative interest both behind the camera and post production from BAFTA Winning/Oscar Nominated talent too!
Everyone that has read the script thinks it has such huge potential and that is why we require a larger budget.... so, if you are interested in supporting creativity, we have an awesome story.... an all female cast with brilliantly strong characters..... Why don't you come and join us?? #SupportIndieFilm #WomenInFilm #MyWeekWithMaisy
With your help, imagine what we can do this time??!! Thank you for visiting and please help us if you can! Please share this Kickstarter. It's all about crowdfunding..... a little from a lot of people can go a long way! Please share and encourage others to help us on this journey!
REMEMBER: KICKSTARTER IS AN 'ALL OR NOTHING' CROWDFUNDING SYSTEM.
OUR HISTORY: In 2017 our No-Budget shot on an iPhone short film "David's Here" went on to win 10 Indie Film Awards at Film Festivals around the world and received a further 5 Nominations! This inspired us to purchase better sound/filmmaking equipment and create a brilliant new script! So, on August 29th 2018 we started a successful crowdfunding project and raised a £4,500 budget to film 'Blood Means Nothing'. Dawn & Mark co-wrote, Mark directed and Dawn produced. We always knew we wanted this project to be the best it could be so and as such the budget soon jumped to around £8,000! After some very late nights and some incredible work by all the team, we wrapped on Sunday 7th October 2018..... for those of you that pledged and were at the screening in February 2019, you will of course know that (because of your help) we produced a wonderful short film. In fact Indie Shorts Mag reviewed it and said 'Unlike other short films, ‘Blood Means Nothing’ offers the taste of a mainstream cinema. Camera and Editing by Clever Little Films(UK) is impeccable.' We were incredibly fortunate to also be reviewed by UK Film Review who said 'The movie’s strength lies firmly in the believability of its characters and their actions. This is the result of very well-written characters, a near-perfect script and some damn fine acting to boot.' Pretty amazing stuff!
Blood Means Nothing has since gone on to WIN 19 Indie Film Awards and receive a further 14 Nominations! Including: Best Indie Film, Best Producer (Dawn Buckland), Best Director, Best Indie Filmmaker & Best Editing (Mark Oxtoby/Clever Little Films UK), Best Actress (Lauren Logan), Best Actor - Honourable Mention (Dan Krikler), Best Child/Young Actress (Lily Oxtoby), Best Acting Ensemble (Entire Cast), Best Original Score (Jon Bourne) and Best Makeup/Special Makeup (Alix Brewer).
*Blood Means Nothing Trailer is at the bottom of this page.
Please note that you are pledging money for rewards to help us fund this short film. This is in no way ROI (Return On Investment) opportunity. Our projects are for purely creative purposes only. Any funds made from festival wins are put straight back into any future projects/upgrading of equipment.
Clever Little Films (UK) is a Trading Name of Mark Oxtoby.
Risks and challenges
There are always challenges when making a creative project. Can we get the locations. Can we put together a cast? Do we have the equipment required? Are we able to tell this story?
The answer to all of these questions usually starts off as ‘maybe’! Then we work incredibly hard to turn them into a ‘yes’. With your help we can achieve, better locations, better detail and ultimately tell a better story.
Here at Clever Little Films (UK) We plan within an inch of our lives....but know it doesn't always work that way. So we try to be part of the solution, rather than part of the problem! We are fixers.....problem solvers......!
Be ready for anything.....that’s the motto! Thank you in advance.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
