The comic is an RPG-themed adventure story set in the fantasy world of Cisum, which is filled with creatures and persons of all kinds- including immigrant humans! Yokoka and her twin brother Mao tell the story in dual parts, each adding to their parties and skills as the story progresses. The series is going to be taking place over 24 chapters, that is expected to make between 8 and 10 volumes. So far, all the way up to the end of chapter 8 can be read for free online, which makes the core material for the first three books! This kickstarter is specifically for volume 1 (chapters 1-3) and, if we're able to reach the stretch goal, volume 2 (chapters 4-5).
Ahhh we've done it! We've met the goal!! We've only got 13 hours and counting to hit these extra goals to make the book as cool as possible! Can we make it???
Yokoka's Quest is a story about a girl with too much energy named Yokoka. She lives sheltered as a beast in a forest with all her siblings under the protection of their mother. But she's getting restless and bored and wants to have a taste of adventure! So she leaves, and then finds out that the outside world is pretty great, and that some things she grew up with weren't quite fully true- for example, she isn't actually related by blood to all her friends, and she isn't really a cat. Also, Yokoka can speak languages she can't remember learning, and her brother Mao keeps talking about undoing a curse? But the real world is fun and full of friends, not danger! Definitely not danger.
The pages of content included in the book have all been done for some time now and there's just a list of minor edits like typos I'd like to fix for the printed form. On top of this I'm planning on including a map of Yokoka and Mao's travels, a new book-only version of the status page, and other extras planned in the stretch goals! Whatever look we get by the end, I intend to keep for all future books in the series so that they can all match together nicely!
Here's a list of rewards you can get for backing the campaign!
mobile wallpaper • signed book plate • 5"x7" sticker sheet • 2"x6" bookmarks • 9"x6.5" mini print • 24"x36" poster
Custom artworks where I draw your favourite YQ character are also available (in black and white or full colour) in some tiers!
I also have some add-ons prepared! If you'd like a signed bookplate, just add 10$ to your pledge, and for extra books it's 25$ + shipping! Everything will be sorted out when I ask for your address in a survey later.
I'm Chris, the author and artist of Yokoka's Quest, and my wife Caroline Riley is landing me a hand in delivering this kickstarter to you all! We're also known online as ClefdeSoll and Kikiine. We're both writers and artists working on several comics and have our own small company called Calico Capsule Publishing.
Chris is a chronically ill content creator originally from Montreal, Canada. I dish out a ton of art on a weekly basis, with a priority set on Yokoka's Quest and commissions. When I'm not, you can usually find me working on a website, petting a cat or napping. I'm the one running this kickstarter in the front, and who will most likely be answering all your questions! Previous projects of mine include ETCZ- a comic I drew for local publication in 2009-2012 until the company closed down, and Pouring- a one shot written by Caroline and drawn by me.
Yokoka's Quest is the first story I came up with, and wrote back in 2004 during my high school days. I decided to pick it up in 2014, and the comic has been live since September 2015 with only a few short breaks so far, most notably between chapters.
Caroline currently works on her webcomic A Mirror's Tale, while also handling freelance and a full time job as a supervisor in a retail print department. She loves cats and bubble tea, and is a very go-with-the-flow kind of person. She's the one in charge of placing orders with print stores to make sure the books and rewards are the best they can be! Previous projects of hers include Sunstones- a comic about superheroes she plans on redoing from the ground up, Leche Venicida- a one shot about an alien girl's meeting with the chupacabra, Dr. Freckle- her university thesis of a cat therapist going around the neighbourhood trying to help mentally ill kitties, and Peony- written by me, drawn by her and Pouring's sister story.
A big thank you to the guest artists who helped me on the video and bookmarks! Here's a link on where to find them!

Why do we need that amount of money?
Here's a pie chart we made to show exactly how that money will be spent! This chart covers the original 100% of the goal, and if we reach further we have different small goals in mind for ways to make the book look nicer!
But we'll talk about those things more once we get there!
Risks and challenges
We've never done a Kickstarter before, but we've done a whole lot of thinking and played to our strengths to make sure it'll all run smoothly. I've delivered several online orders in a timely manner, including a giveaway where I handled nearly a hundred addresses at once to ship postcards to, and am a very organized person on top of things. Caroline is working with orders constantly in her day job and knows exactly what to look for in quality check and how to deal with manufacturers. We've already had several of our various books printed.
The comic's pages and all rewards art are already all done and we've researched everything that could possibly come up including in the stretch goals. Anything we felt unsure that we could deliver or not has been pushed aside and replaced with something we could. We're confident we can make this book happen if it reaches funding!
We'll keep backers informed of any problems or delays, and can be contacted directly through this Kickstarter's comments and messaging!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
