A twenty-minute film about a Lower East Side resident who realizes she no longer recognizes her neighborhood.
THANK YOU, so much, to all our fantastic backers, for getting us to this point and helping this film move forward! Our STRETCH GOAL of $17,000 will continue to make the difference as we bring this story to life. The further we go, the brighter our movie will shine! Go #TeamOTB!
A New York City Story, Shot on 16mm Film
Hi! This is Clayton. I've written and directed my first film, a twenty-minute short called Off Track Betty, about a longtime resident of the Lower East Side who begins to question her place in the city she calls home. Many of us who live here feel this way. I know I do, and I have loved living here for over 15 years. People and businesses are forced to leave every single day, and the physical shape of the city is transforming with dizzying speed. This story is my way of giving voice to the people, artists, and workers who are trying to come to terms with life in this city we all love.
Final edit is almost complete! The whole creative team and I believe in this project so much, and cannot wait to get it out into the world. But we need your support to make that happen. We're so grateful for anything you can contribute so that we can finish this film and do it right--and we can't wait to share it with you!
Two days after filming, our interior and exterior locations on the Lower East Side began to disappear. A shoe repair store and a fabric store where we shot have since gone out of business. An entire city block has been demolished. And much more is on the way. Off Track Betty captured these locations. More importantly, it tells a story with themes that are familiar to many of us: taking stock of the things that are vanishing before our eyes.
One of the Last Films Processed in NYC
The last remaining film lab in NYC discontinued film development services shortly after we dropped off our 16mm Kodak reels. As a result, Off Track Betty is one of the last film projects to be processed in New York City--ever. Even the medium of film ends up being one of the things we are celebrating before it goes out of existence.
What Your Support Will Go Toward!
Your support will give Off Track Betty the capacity to finish post-production the right way: locking picture, color correction, Foley, sound editing, sound mixing, scoring, optical design, and finally, costs incurred in submitting to festivals. Shooting on film is expensive, but we have completed production in the most economical way possible. And now we need YOU in order to bring Off Track Betty into the world. We are proud of our film, and so honored to partner with you to give life to our story!
What's In It For You?
First and foremost, you will join a team of dedicated artists and film lovers who have worked tirelessly to bring this story to life. Once you are a Backer of Off Track Betty, we will share the journey of the project with you as the team member that you are! And of course, we've lined up some fun and interesting bonuses for you at every level of support: private screenings, fun parties, fine art and film stills are among the treats that becoming a Backer will bring you.
