Clay Linen is a fashion line developed by Canvas: a Christian artist in the Rio Grande Valley. The name finds its roots in the idea that God formed us in clay, and though we fell in the garden and had to cover our shame, we've been redeemed in Christ and clothed in His priestly linens forever.
Clay Linen's main focus is presenting the Gospel in a thoughtful way, not with silly puns or Christian phrases that no one outside of the faith understands, but in a way that looks appealing and engages conversation. Ultimately our goal is to bring glory to God in the redemption of art and fashion through what we do, so others can be inspired to do the same.
With this Kickstarter, we'll start our first run of four shirts, which you can check out below. We've got lots more in line once these are done, but we've got to start somewhere. We'd love whatever support you can show us through this Kickstarter and can't wait to get these rewards sent out once were funded.
Now that this first run of shirts is a sure thing, we’re already starting to look ahead to the future. We still have two weeks left of Kickstarter, so let’s lay out some stretch goals for going over our requested amount:
$500 Over: We’ll print the Clay Linen “Lilies of the Field” shirts, and every kickstarter supporter who chose the $25 or greater reward will get one shipped with their order.
$1000 Over: We hit our previous stretch goal of $500 over, so now here's the next design called "The Law of Love". If we hit $1000 over our goal, this shirt gets thrown in for everyone who selected the $25 or over reward. That means you could get three awesome shirts for $25 if we can make our new goal.
$1750 Over: We’ll imprint the snap bracelets that come with every reward level on 100% genuine leather rather than screen printing them on cloth (image coming after second goal is met)
These are the four designs that are going to kickstart Clay Linen. We've got more in the works and even some exclusives just for Kickstarter. Read on and see what your money gets you.
Swag: Who doesn't love a little swag? Contributors at this reward level will find themselves stickin' by the mailbox waiting for a pile of Clay Linen stickers featuring our designs.
Swag and Then Some: Sure you could stick those stickers from the previous reward level all over yourself, and we wouldn't blame you one bit, but for just a little more, you can get a snappy Clay Linen slap bracelet for a little self-decoration.
One Shirt: Swag's great and all, but let's be honest, at this point we're getting to be friends, so we'll give you some anyway, but what you're really here for are the shirts. Pick any one shirt with this reward.
Two Shirts: ♪♫ One is the loneliest number ♫♪ But two is better than one, so go ahead and pick two shirts to go with your swag. That way when one gets dirty you can wear the other one while you do the laundry. Pick any two shirts with this reward.
Update Reward: You wanted hoodies? Well now you've got them. At this reward level, pick any t-shirt design and add a hood. Guess we should have expected this launching a kickstarter in the middle of winter. Stay warm people.
Three Shirts: ♪♫ Two is the loneliest number ♫♪ . . . well not really, but whoever said three is a crowd wasn't talking about T-shirts. Pick any three shirts with this reward plus some swag.
Update Reward: You wanted hoodies? Well now you've got them. At this reward level, pick any t-shirt design and get a matching hoodie to go with it. That's one t-shirt and one hoodie. Hot or cold outside, we've got you covered.
Four Shirts: Hmmm . . . All four shirts plus swag? Really? Yeah we're crazy like that. The only thing you'll regret about this decision is that you can't wear all four at once . . . well, you could but that would be awkward wouldn't it?
Final Days Exclusive: With just two days left, we've decided to open up the Kickstarter exclusive hoodie. Now for just $80 you can get this hoodie with the "Lilies of the Field" shirt and "The Law of Love" shirt that everyone gets with the $25 or over pledge. Quantities are limited, and we're not selling these after the Kickstarter is over, so this is your last chance to get one. (Limit 5)
Update Reward: You wanted hoodies? Well now you've got them. At this reward level, get all four designs put on hoodies. Now you can keep warm all winter long.
Custom Shirt Plus Four: All four shirts and swag could make anyone's day, but what if you really, really need to have a purple shirt for your cousin's wedding? Choose a custom color combo with any of the designs. You tell us what you need, and we'll make it for you.
Kickstarter Exclusive Hoodie: You'll never see this hoodie again. We're not going to make it for anyone but our Kickstarter friends. And because we love you we'll throw in all four shirts and swag too. (Limit 5)
Reward Update: We know you love the hoodies, so why not get all four hoodies and the kickstarter exclusive hoodie. That's five hoodies total, plus all four shirts and some swag. Hard to pass up; we know.
Hipster Level: Want to wear some Clay Linen shirts before they're popular? Contributors at this level will get all the shirts, the exclusive hoodie, the swag, and four shirts that are scheduled for future release. That's 8 different T-shirt designs, all the hoodies, and all the swag you can shake a stick at. (Limit 5)
Pick Us Up Off the Floor Level: Um what can we say, we love you, even more than those piddly Hipsters in the previous level, so we'll give you everything they're getting, and then we'll put you on a plane to head down to South Padre, TX to hang out with us. We'll buy you dinner and put you up for two whole nights. We'll let you pick the dates of your trip (excluding March) and the major metropolitan airport you want to fly out of, but all your other goodies will ship in May. (Limit 3)
Shoot For The Moon Level: Hey it's Kickstarter; we'd be crazy not to ask right. This kind of support calls for something special. Everything you see in the Pick Us Up Off the Floor Level, and we'll also fly you out from a major metropolitan airport to the annual Christian fashion expo in LA with us, where you can check out all the latest and greatest Christian clothing designers out there (date to be announced). That's two trips with Clay Linen. Who wouldn't want to hang out with us that much. (Limit 1)
Risks and challenges
It's easy enough to point out the pitfalls of any fashion line. Will we sell what we've created, or will we end up with a garage full of t-shirts and hoodies, but honestly our biggest obstacle will be remaining relevant in the fashion of the world, without being part of it. As fashion changes, it's hard to know what will become relevant 10 years, 20 years from now, and the challenge will become, "how do we honor God in the fashion of the future." And through His grace and inspiration, we're confident He'll guide the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
