UPGRADED: 75% and some author news!
We've reached the 75% mark with two weeks to go! Thank you for all you support!
Three more authors have said agree to write stories for this anthology: Robert Reed, Xia Jia and Chen Qiufan. You may not be familiar with those last two, so let me fill you in:
- Xia Jia has been publishing science fiction and fantasy since 2004 in a variety of venues, including Science Fiction World and Jiuzhou Fantasy. Several of her stories have won the Milky Way, China's most prestigious science fiction award.
- Chen Qiufan published his first short story in 1997 in Science Fiction World, China's largest science fiction magazine. Since 2004, he has published over 30 stories in Science Fiction World, Esquire, Chutzpah and other magazines. His first novel, The Abyss of Vision, came out in 2006. He won Taiwan's Dragon Fantasy Award in 2006 with "A Record of the Cave of Ning Mountain," a work written in Classical Chinese.
I've published stories by both (translated by Ken Liu) in Clarkesworld, so it's a pleasure to have the chance to work with them again. It's great to be able to include some international authors in a book like this.
Now that we're closer to goal, I'm moving onto phase two of the story solicitations, which is mainly authors I'd love to work with, but have never had the opportunity to. Over on Facebook, I've invited people to suggest authors they'd like to see cyborg stories by. Feel free to do so here too.
Since a few authors on this list have been asking, phase three (the open-call for submissions) won't start until after we've successfully raised all of our funding. I should have that set up by mid-August. Don't worry, I'm holding slots for these stories.
Thanks again and please keep spreading the word on Twitter, blogs, Facebook, forums and at conventions! We're getting close, but I've learned not to take things for granted.
