THE BOOKSBecause books are better hand-bound, (they lie flat, they look cool, and are far more impressive to your friends,) my new book CHIME (Ghosts, music, and mayhem.) and its prequel, THE FLEETWOOD SKIES (More ghosts, a Cadillac, and dogs.) are here on Kickstarter as unique handmade items of wonder!
The covers are a durable plastic that is stiff enough to hold shape, but bendy enough to be comfortable in your hand. As previously stated, but bears repeating, hand-bound books unfold flat, giving the reader an enhanced experience. The detailed stitching gives a sense of simplicity whilst retaining an old-timey appearance. (That's right hipsters, you can enjoy minimalistic modernism and a traditional craft AT THE SAME TIME.)
It's cool for everyone else, too.
I've been making hand-made books for two years now and this is my second hand-made book project, though my first for the mighty world of Kickstarter.
Leandra Meadowlark is no stranger to tragedy, which may be why the Chime comes to her so naturally. With music Leandra can help ghosts cross over to the other side. When Leandra returns to her hometown to Chime for a beloved friend, the past she left behind comes back to haunt her. Leandra reluctantly finds herself entangled with her estranged family who would use the Chime for their own nefarious purposes. With the help of her cousin, Yvonne, Leandra faces the hardships of her past to prevent it from happening again, though it may cost her more than she can give.
THE FLEETWOOD SKIES
EBOOK AVAILABLE ON AMAZON
Recovering from the sudden death of her husband, Yvonne trudges on with her daily life, assisting her mother’s real estate business by evicting ghosts from hard-to-sell homes. Unlike the novels Yvonne’s mother reads, not all supernatural romance stories have a happy ending, and Yvonne has to find a way to get a reluctant group of ghosts to cross over—including the ghost of her husband, who hangs out in the 1975 Cadillac Fleetwood in the backyard.
Risks and challenges
Hand-made books take time. If book orders go into large numbers, it could take more time to get them made and shipped. I do not foresee this happening, but if for some reason this Kickstarter explodes, I have time to double down and get things done, as well as helpers who could be recruited. (Hole punching, folding, cutting covers, etc.)
If any such instance occurred in which I was not sure I could make the February shipping deadline for these books, I would be in contact with all patrons immediately.
Unless an asteroid hits Earth, all books will be made and shipped.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
