Austin Sommelier & Winemaker Rae Wilson wants to pour you a glass of wine at her dream-come-true gathering space.
After 5 years of building wine productions and venue hopping and, Rae Wilson’s Wine For The People is ready to give its wines, its wine club, and community a permanent home.
Come one, come all to
Citizen Wine will combine the buzz of a wine cellar—think: tasting, blending, experimenting—with a relaxed glass and bottle shop for drinking in or carrying out and the infinite possibilities of community collaboration.
As well as being your daily stop to hang out and drink wine or pick up a bottle to go, Citizen Wine will offer exciting opportunities to take a class and attend tastings and other events featuring visiting winemakers, sommeliers, authors, and other wine luminaries, as well as our monthly Wine Club Events and much more.
Citizen Wine will build a positive, happy work place, where people will be well paid to excel at the work they love and be afforded ongoing opportunities to learn and grow.
As part of our community-centered vision, Citizen Wine will provide mentoring and educational pathways to the community, and especially to women, who have been historically under-represented in the winemaking world.
And, finally, Citizen Wine will collaborate with artisans & artists across all media to host programming and events that foster connection and conversation through exposure to the rich diversity of Austin’s creative offerings.
What You Can Do
Your contribution to our Kickstarter campaign will provide the seed money necessary to secure the space, plans, and funding to bring WFTP’s growing portfolio of regional productions plus the best small-producer wines from across the world directly to the people of Austin.
About Wine For The People
WFTP seeks to bring an elevated but unpretentious wine experience. We believe that you don’t need special vocabulary or superpowers to participate, we’re here to spark a novice interest and challenge the professional palate. We want to grow the conversations & exposure to the ideas, best practices and innovations driving contemporary winemaking. And, most importantly, LOTS of opportunities to taste.
About Rae Wilson
Rae Wilson, Founder and Winemaker for Wine For the People, has worked in food and wine for over 20 years. From beer brewing in her hometown of St. Louis and years in a variety of restaurant roles, she turned her sights to wine in 2007, acquiring an Advanced Certification from the WSET, and later with the Court of Master Sommeliers as a Certified Sommelier.
She learned winemaking in Napa Valley and Portugal, and upon returning to Austin in 2010, established Wine For the People and worked her first Texas harvest that following year. In 2014 she established a vineyard in the Texas Hill Country and released the first vintage of Dandy Rosé, then co-founded The Grower Project production in 2016. She continues to build and grow the Wine For the People portfolio and looks forward to opening Citizen Wine in Austin.
