SHARE AND FRAME YOUR MOST SPECIAL CONTENTS
OKO is the first on-line multimedia touch-screen frame that allows you to share pictures, music, videos, messages (text and voice) and instantly receive important “alerts” with your family and friends personal network with an exclusive app for smartphones (Android/iOS).
Why should you always have the same picture inside a frame? With OKO, you can send the content you really want to have in frames and not forgotten in your smartphone’s gallery… you can also send those contents to your friends and family OKOs.
LET OKO SHOW YOU WHAT YOU LIKE THE BEST
With OKO you can also follow hashtags and let OKO display the best pictures and videos that are uploaded on social media networks (Instagram, Twitter, Vine…).
Why should you always have the same poster of your favorite artist, if you can have pictures, music and videos that all his fans and themselves upload on Social Media Networks!
Have you ever wanted to have a fine piece of art or a picture that you’ve seen while surfing the web and got you fascinated displayed in your home? You just have to let OKO put a frame on it…
SEND TEXT MESSAGES AND ALERTS
OKO has more than multimedia content, you can also send text messages and important alerts that you want people to read when they’re around the OKO.
To send other kind of text messages there are already other applications (Whatsapp, Facebook…) but you sometimes need to send a text message that you need them to be read when they are or arrive home, and you can’t risk them having their Smartphone off or not reading the text.
Maybe you are thinking of using a post-it, but if you’re not home, how are you going to put it? Sometimes post-it remain unnoticed… with OKO the message will be received.
ALL OF THIS FROM A SIMPLE APP THAT OKO INCLUDES
Thanks to OKO’s app you will be able to send in an easy way all that special content, so important that you want some of your friends or family to put it in a frame in their OKO.
...AND CHANGE THE CASING WHENEVER YOU WANT TO
OKO will become part of your home and your life, that's why it's designed so you can change the casing easily whenever you need to. OKO should look like a traditional picture frame, but with it actually is a window to unlimited multimedia content.
We don't want OKO to be like any other digital frames, a cold electronic device without personality, that's why we've designed it to have exchangeable casings, allowing you to customize it to your liking with one of our casings or even using a casing of your own: wooden, plastic, metallic, white, black coloured, etc.
OKO's ready to be hung on a wall or to be used as a tabletop picture frame.
It’s easy, you just have to follow these four easy steps!
- Download the OKO’s app and register for free.
- Turn on your OKO and connect to Wi-Fi.
- Link your OKO to your APP (by typing the ID or reading the QR code)
- Send and receive media (pictures, videos, music, text messages, etc) and invite people to your OKO through the app.
IPS Touch Screen
With our OKO screen UI you will be able to manage the content and functionalities easily: move pictures, watch videos, turn up/down the volume, create playlists, freeze the content, input hashtags…
Thanks to OKO’s IPS technology you can also enjoy high quality color image and a strong viewing angle independence.
OKO will adapt to any surrounding. OKO’s casing is completely removable, so you can change it when needed for other models. You can even build your own frames manually or with the help of 3D printers and personalize completely your OKO.
OKO is to be used in places with Wi-Fi connection, that’s why we don’t include 3G connectivity.
Simple and easy-to-use
OKO is for everybody, regardless of age and gender, from the youngest to the eldest, who deserve to be up to date with the pictures and videos that the family shares. That’s why it’s designed so you barely have to touch it and still view contents without doing a thing (if you only want to receive contents).
App to send contents
You can send content to someone’s OKO frame or create your own groups of frames and send content to all of them from your OKO App.
This mode allows you to view in your OKO the feeds of your selected hashtags in your favorite social networks. You just have to type in the hashtags you want to follow and select the social networks you want to search in.
Slider content configuration
You can configure about anything in OKO. You will be able to choose the display time of the pictures, the transitions effects, freeze some content to view it some more time, whether you want to show or not the messages that come with the content, the graphic equalizer for the audio, autoplay in videos, etc.
OKO allows the use of playlists, where you can select from the content gallery, where everything in OKO is stored, media that you want to display. You can create / save customized playlists, to play whenever you want to.
Alert messages management
OKO considers alert messages as a priority, and that is precisely why they will always be displayed on top of the contents, which you will be able to see behind them. Once the users read the alert message(s) they will be able to delete them. In case there are several alert messages to display (unread), OKO will manage these alerts so that whenever the user is close to OKO he will be shown the last alert message and can see that he has other unread messages.

Every idea has an origin, ours was born a few years ago, specifically on Christmas Eve, when one of our colleagues was having dinner with his family. As it is usual around those holidays, family, friends and beloved ones, whether they live together or apart, share loads of pictures and videos, and each one of them receives those pictures in their mobile phone and share it with those who are closer. Some, normally the elderly, don’t have mobile phones, and they feel a bit isolated from the group, since they don’t get to participate in that exchange. During the dinner he looked at the family picture (in a frame) that they have in the dining room and thought “What if… people sent the pictures to that frame. Why does it always have to be the same family picture in the dining room, when there is the technology and people are always willing to share pictures? It would be great to have a frame connected to the internet that would display in real time the pictures, even videos, that your family, friends, anyone you want to… could send from their mobile phones!”

If you’ve read some of our blog posts about OKO’s story (http://www.okoproject.com/blog) you’ll have seen that in the first blog entry, “THE IDEA”, we’ve explained how the beginnings were. Starting from the spur that lit the idea, to how we all met during Christmas holidays in a bar and we started brainstorming around OKO in napkins. It was an unforgettable day, for all the hopes, wills and motivation that we all shared while giving birth to a great idea.
We filled quite some napkins in that bar, and started designing what would be the first functional version of OKO. We thought that it was mandatory to create a model with the most basic functionalities, which is what we’re offering in this crowdfunding campaign. We hope, though, that this campaign will be successful and we can surpass the funding’s objective, and that we can start working in the rest of the ideas we put down on those napkins. In this section we’ll show you a glimpse of our thoughts and we really hope to turn them into reality if people is willing to invest in our product.
Some of the future features left on those napkins:
The development team has experience in projects where they had to implement voice recognition systems for different solutions. In a near future the user will be able to control OKO with his voice: share content, delete, freeze, play videos, etc. and they won’t need to touch the screen (if they don’t want to).
OKO 55” / TV Stickers
We thought that it would be a great idea to create stickers that would make our TVs turn into OKOs. The direction this is going is that of creating big sized OKOs (40”, 55”…) but also to have the option of using TVs to have huge OKOs. Maybe for some special occasions, for business / stores that already have TVs and want to use OKOs on them, etc.
If everything goes in the right direction and the idea is well accepted, we’ll launch a cloud OKO version. With cloud OKO the user will be able to store more content in the cloud and select whatever it wants to store in the frame, but thanks to this, we will also be able to use our tablets and smartphones as OKOs: you’ll just have to install an specific app in the frame, and with a protected access (user and password) the user will be able to turn his smartphone / tablet in an OKO frame and be able to enjoy the contents of his OKO while being away from his frames… maybe in a trip, while working abroad, on vacations, etc.
We also thought that including a mini-camera to our OKOs would broaden the possibilities (to be previously studied the usefulness and acceptance), such as gestural interaction, making video calls between frames, using the frame as a security camera, etc.
In the following pictures you will see some ideas for future, more advanced designs for OKO.
The OKO team wants to use this section to thank, in first place, the director from our workplace (CIMNE), Dr. Eugenio Oñate, who has supported us all the way, providing tons of great ideas and useful advices and helped us with the materials that made possible the first hardware prototyping. We also want to thank the Lhings team (http://www.lhings.com), who count with great experience in IOT, and all the time they’ve destined in helping us.
Do not forget our illustrator, Pablo Mendelbaum (http://www.pablomendel.blogspot.com.es), who has done a great job with the animation video used in the campaign and OKO’s website. Thank Hernani for all the sketches and industrial designs for the final product. Also thank Arline Coward, who helped us with the website’s content and helped in the diffusion of OKO throughout USA. She was one of the first to tell me that she wanted some OKOs for all her family around the world, so they could share their life experiences and special moments. Thank Adrián Dorado for his help in this last stage of the campaign, with his awesome designs, production and creation of the last video. Also thank Andreu Marí for his revision and translation of the content in OKO’s website, the campaign website and the blog.
At last but not least, I want to thank all of our friends and family for their help and support during this episode. They’ve put up with us during those long nights when our minds were only in OKO and we couldn’t stop talking about it. They were also our first test subjects (or guinea pigs) when trying out our first OKOs.
To all of them and all of you, bakers, whom decide to support us in this campaign: “Our most sincere thanks and please start enjoying OKO”.

Risks and challenges
We know that it might get complicated to turn an idea into reality, however good it may be, but the most important thing to accomplish it is what we already have: the people who are making it possible. We obviously have the technological knowledge, experience in the development of this kind of project/product, and the will and eagerness to work on it. In fact, as you’ll see on the website and blog, which we highly recommend you to take a look at (http://www.cimne.com/oko/blog) so you can see the story and work behind the product.
You’ll see that there’s over a year and a half of work behind this product, finding time to work on this innovative product whenever we can. We have developed the greatest part of the software that manages the frame, the app for the user to send content to the frame, and some prototypes of the frame working properly, with their own industrial designs of the casings that will make OKO a unique customizable frame for the user.
We know that there are things to be done, but most of it and the hardest parts have already been dealt with. When this campaign is over we’ll be ready to polish the software, multiple frames management, and start the serial production of thousands of OKOs, with the help of our manufacturing partners with whom we’ve already made arrangements.
To avoid unnecessary risks we’ve have selected more than one manufacturing partners and we’ll have team members that will make periodical revisions at the factories, to ensure the product’s quality. We’ll inspect both the physical details as well as its proper functionality. We do know that controlling all of this, running everything smoothly and avoiding delays in deliveries is very challenging. There can always be troubles or issues outside of anyone’s control, but we’re working to the bone all the details in production, quality control and deliveries logistics.
We also want to ensure the proper functioning of the product in post-production phases, and that’s why we need to validate and test finished products during some months with OKOS installed in different zones. Doing so will create a well-trained and helpful customer service team who will help troubleshoot any problems that may arise. You’ll be able to count with our full support once you acquire an OKO.
Help us turn into reality what we sketched on some paper napkins an unforgettable day full of dreams. We believe in our product and we are giving our all to make it possible, but for us, the results of this campaign are vita, as they will show what our possible final users think of the product.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
