$4 Million! New System, New Ship, New Goals!

FOUR MILLION DOLLARS! We've DOUBLED the original goal and unlocked a LOT of stretch goals. Here's what you just earned: increased community updates, professional mod tools FREE for players and monthly webcasts from the team. Squadron 42 will feature a richer storyline with 45 missions (more than Wing Commander I!) Star Citizen will feature a persistent universe on launch along with an additional flyable ship, the Drake Cutlass (detailed below.) The game will launch with FIFTY star systems and will feature ENHANCED boarding options (including melee weapons, upgradeable HUDs, zero-g external combat.)

Read on to see the details of our final $100K Challenge star system, Chronos... it's an important one and you'll be glad you unlocked it when you learn more about the Star Citizen universe! Our next target is $4.5 million, at which you will unlock 60 star systems and the largest playable ship will be massive armored cruisers! In addition, getting to $4.5 million combined will unlock all of the remaining Kickstarter goals.

If we can make it to $5 million, there'll be a companion app, even more community updates and webcasts and a monthly town hall meeting with Chris Roberts! Squadron 42 will add celebrity voice actors and have a total of fifty missions... and Star Citizen will match the original Privateer and feature 70 star systems! Finally, a new base type will be added: alien derelicts.

Chronos System

Ownership: UEE
Planets: 2.5
Planetary Rotation: Archangel Project 360 SED
Import: GeoEngineering Products,
Export: None
Crime Status: Low
Black Market: None
UEE Strategic Value: Red

Site of the infamous Synthworld Project. Chosen because it’s a sparse, vast, empty system. The planets Chronos I & II are dead worlds on an orbit very close to their sun. An ELE destroyed the planets on the outer half of the system, offering the perfect opportunity to design the Synthworld’s distance and orbit from the sun for optimal planetary conditions.

When the project began, there was a lot of traffic in and out of the system, but now, money and enthusiasm has waned. Deemed by some as an embarrassment, a financial vampire by others, the Synthworld stands as a half-constructed monstrosity that most doubt will ever be completed. The government is still struggling to make the project a success.

Though its star has fallen, the SynthWorld Project is still an excellent place for traders to offload raw materials. With the proper bribes, contractors can bring in heavy metals, construction equipment and shipped labor to be sold at inflated government prices. Those who live outside the law should be wary: there may be no place in the galaxy worse for conducting illegal business. The UEE's elite 18th Battle Fleet is on permanent station at Chronos and have spent years with little to do aside from practice their aim.

Drake Cutlass

Builder: Drake Interplanetary
Crew (max): 2
Mass (empty): 35,000 Kg
Focus: "System Defense" (Piracy)

Drake Interplanetary claims that the Cutlass is a low-cost, easy-to-maintain solution for local in-system militia units. The larger-than-average cargo hold, RIO seat and dedicated tractor mount are, the company literature insists, for facilitating search and rescue operations. While it's true that Cutlasses are used throughout known space for such missions, their prime task and immediate association is with high space piracy. Cutlasses, often operating in groups, menace distant transit lanes to prey on hapless merchants. A single Cutlass can ravage a mid-sized transport and a pack operating as a clan can easily take down larger prey. STOL adaptations allow these interceptors to operate off of modified transports or pocket destroyers; the most common warships that make up pirate caravans.

Designer note: the idea is that Drake Interplanetary builds ships which are ostensibly for legal purposes (local militias, etc.) but are 'obviously' for pirates: so it has the appearance of a military fighter, but mated to an awkwardly larger hull for collecting loot; it should have visible forward-facing tractor beams and a seat for a second crewman even though there's no turret (as you'll need a second man to board an enemy ship.) It also has a cheaper build quality: if Anvil is building Jeeps and Origin is building BMWs, this is a Honda.

Upgrade Capacity: 5
Cargo Capacity: 10 tonnes
Engine-
Modifiers: 2
Max. Class: Fusion
Thrusters: 1 x TR4, 16 x TR2

@Roland it is a human attempt to create a planet themselves to stop wars over terriotory and terraforming... It was explained in Time Capsule series on main website... You should check it out it has some great insight into universe.

If you don't want all the updates on mail, you can turn it off under "Me" (My account), "Edit settings" and
"Notifications". I for one would like many more updates and teasers! I was so happy when I got out of bed today and found out that there were 3 new updates :D

What is Synthworld Project, is it some sort of artificial colony (not planetoid based) construction project?

5 mill for a companion app? This makes me sad. Companion apps are important in the smartphone age.

@TorbjørnDalland just retract your pledge and GTFO. I don't want your whiny-ass kind in this game anyways, i'm sure others agree. take care.

Torbjørn Dalland, there's a way to turn off email updates. I used it for this one because, yes, it's ridiculous even by Kickstarter standards. Of course the main reason it's ridiculous is because of the ridiculous amount of money they've been able to bring in it. That sort of makes it a good problem to have.

@Torbjørn Dalland and others like him complaining about Roberts wanting to raise more money for a better product.

What is wrong with you people. Do you know how much it costs to make a game? 4 million dollars gets you minesweeper. To put this in perspective Gran Turismo 5 cost 60 million to develop and that is a game where you drive a car around in circles. You want a dynamic open universe that rivals mmorpgs? You want realistic digital engineering? You want the future of pc gaming? You want the most advanced game engine ever produced? You are complaining about RSI sending you updates and asking for as much funding as they can get? Are you fucking kidding me?

You should just be thankful that Roberts knows how to get the private investors and more importantly- how to make every dollar count so he can make your ungrateful ass a game so amazing that it cost you your job and your girlfriend and your life because it's so damn amazing you died of starvation at your desk with your hand on the mouse. Get real people. Never before in gaming history has a developer loved their fans so much.

    12. Taylan Ertan on November 16, 2012

Awesome ! Each update makes this project sound more and more amazing. I gotta say, I've been looking for such a great experience and it can only be good that it is getting richer.

I wonder if we can reach to 4.5M in 62 hours. Last rush hours can be promising.

    13. Daniel Henry on November 16, 2012

He doesn't mean Honda's are cheap rubbish. He just means in a comparison of prices ranges Jeep and BMW are more expensive than Honda. Also aesthetics. BMW being more hig end luxury looking, Jeep hard and blockier, and with Honda being more utility while still stylish.

    14. Ron Au on November 16, 2012

@Endothermic Ah if they meant Hyundai then that's a different story and I see what they mean now :) Hyundai and Daewoo- the Drake of today! hahaha

      Endothermic on November 16, 2012

Perhaps they were getting their wires crossed between lower build quality and simply lower price when they said Honda and actually meant to say Hyundai :)

    16. Zane Galloway on November 16, 2012

@Torbjorn Dalland, the funding period isn't over yet. It's still got 2 days and some change left. they are called stretch goals for a reason. Stop complaining about what could possibly be one of the greatest sim games ever made just because you are getting spam about updates to the game that you obviously want to play too. Also, you can disable email updates under your account info I believe.

    17. CDSAfghan on November 16, 2012

      @Sean stop, just stop.

    18. Torbjørn Dalland on November 16, 2012

stop with the updates everyday promesing more stuff for more money. I'm getting spammed down here.
Stop wasting time on PR and make the game, apps, extra content and such you can focus on after the game is released. Eve online was't made in 1year, but 10years, If you wanna aim for something that complicated stop running for more money, you got enough now. Concentrate on what we pledged money for.

    19. Ron Au on November 16, 2012

Honda? Oh, I guess Drake must make some pretty good ships then!

    20. shibby191 on November 16, 2012

@Sean I think that's what they are saying...cheap, reliable and the "go to" ship for pirates. Origin is the overpriced "pretty" ship that still works well and the Jeep is old workhorse.

Hopefully Honda also means plentiful cheap modifications and easy to source spare parts.

    22. Sean Knudsen on November 16, 2012

The Honda comment bothers me. Honda's make some pretty reliable cars, which is indicative of a build quality I have trouble describing as 'cheaper'. Also they made the NSX for a long time, which is just an awesome car by any standard.

Quick question, with citizen cards, are they status items in game that show up when you enter someone's profile?

    26. Rick Folks on November 16, 2012

I loved the original Wing Commander for PC. Played it back in the day when graphics on screen required a good amount of imagination as well to get into the game. What a game it was...I really appreciate all the updates you've done to keep us fans in the loop and build excitement. Congratulations to your team--I look forward to your finished product.
