ODESSA is a short film written and directed by Cidney Hue for her thesis project at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. It is being produced under the guidance of NYU professor and director Deborah Reinisch and the support of other talented members of the NYU faculty. Odessa will be shot on location, at night in New York City during the first week in December. The film is made possible through the efforts of its excellent crew (http://odessathefilm.com/crew) and the talents of a stunning cast (http://odessathefilm.com/cast). Odessa is the story of mission specialist, Shannon Wendell, who spends one last night in New York City with a stranger before she embarks on a 135 year long journey to the distant planet of Gliese 581 g, or Odessa. (Think: Lost in Translation with a space element.)
Why NYC? Well, what place in the world can one feel so surrounded by people but alone at the same time? What city feels so vast yet is so small when you're constantly bumping into people you least expect to see? And finally, what city can you always have chance encounters with such unique and wonderful people? Even if it's just for a moment--a fleeting glance--you'll have shared an intimate connection with a stranger. Odessa hopes to capture that mutual understanding between two strangers while they spend the night together on the streets of the magical city that never sleeps.
Currently, Cidney and her dedicated trio of producers, Morgan Block, Christopher Zou, and Tristan Daley, are in heavy-pre-production; working around the clock to prepare for the shoot in December. We've casted our leads and are now working on rehearsals, finalizing locations, and obtaining permits. Updates along with behind the scenes videos will be posted regularly for our supporters documenting our entire process from start to finish.
Odessa is a giant labor of love for everyone involved. The entire cast and crew is working for no pay in order to bring the story to the screen. The project, however, still requires money for equipment, food, travel, locations, permits, and other expenses. We are slated to shoot the first week of December with a budget of $6k. While Cidney has saved up money over the years for most of the budget on her own, she still needs a bit more to make the film happen. Anything you can contribute, from $5 to $100 will help move the production forward. Thank you in advance for your time and please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or comments!
