We need your help to create “Cats & Dogs in Art and Life,” a new exhibit that will explore how we remember our animals through art and photography. Please help support the Cats & Dogs Portrait Gallery, featuring photographs of beloved cats and dogs from the 1800s to today – including yours!
Everyone who pledges will have the opportunity to submit a photograph to be displayed in the gallery (check out the pledges and rewards for more details).
Our funding goal of $500 will directly support the installation of the Cats & Dogs Portrait Gallery, which is one part of the larger exhibit, “Cats & Dogs in Art and Life.” Any funding beyond $500 will support development of the entire exhibit. Portrait and landscape paintings, drawings, needlework, sculptures, decorative household items, and photographs—all from the collection of the Connecticut Historical Society and never before seen together—will be on display to illustrate the practical and emotional bonds between dogs, cats, and people and how those connections have changed or endured over time.
The Connecticut Historical Society is a non-profit museum, library, and education center in Hartford. Our mission is to inspire and foster a life-long interest in history through exhibitions, programs, and Connecticut-related collections. For more information, visit www.chs.org.
