Genomia is the name you humans give to call a “video game”, where you will get to know the story of my life, my universe, and the politics and problems our people face each day. You’ll find yourself playing a game with an inverse mechanics, very different to what you are used to dealing with in similar games. My goal therefore, is not to tackle and defeat our enemies, the bifronts, but to steal vital fluids safeguarded in their shelters and then escape without being caught.
My name is Artico, I’m a dermonoid and I come from Oran Ba. I use my crypto-flinger, a device that allows me to adapt my language into your own, making it easier for you to understand me when I try to explain everything. I really hope you can help me because I’m in dire need of your help. My physical and mental conditions do not allow me to help my family and the dermonoid that I love, Tecla.
The level of my vital fluids, which we call genomic beams, are very low, especially the chromatids of Courage, Valor, and Trust. My intelligence, which makes me special, adds nothing but more trouble. I created a virus that interferes with my Aerolimb system, making the numbers of my chromatids seem normal. But I can’t hide from Spheres, the authorities that govern my world. They’re everywhere and if they found out that I was becoming weak, it would mean the end of me. Thanks to my superior intelligence, I was able to build an extraordinary machine, capable of manipulating my genomic system and restoring the genomic beams of my chromatids. It’s called Genomia and there lie all my hopes. If you want to help me you have to learn how to use it. You will guide me by controlling my actions, but to do all of that, I need what you would call a “video game”, the only system capable of making a neural connection between my world and your world. There is only a small group of humans on Earth who can do this.
They are in Italy, in Rome, and my life is in their hands and in yours.
I only have 30 days left. I won’t be able to keep a steady connection with your world for too long. I’ll try to send you a holosinth every three days, where the most important moments of my existence are imprinted. I hope they can give you a better idea of my world and the fears that we live with each day.
I should be able to send you a new holosinth on 3/15/2016.
Oran Ba is a universe made up of many floating platforms in space, called Dermids. I’m on dermid Artis, the biggest of them all. We will face dangerous creatures, the bifronts, and we will steal their sheltered stock of genomic beams. Once we’re in, the only way to get out will be filled with obstacles and mortal perils and you have to work hard in guiding me towards my salvation. What’s worse is that we will constantly have the bifronts at our heels, whose sole purpose in life is to get back their beams and suck in mine.
The first bifront that we will encounter is Arteta, one of the protector’s of the beams of Valor. Once we have gotten his fluids, I will have the vigor and strength necessary to keep going and together we will continue to look for it’s siblings in all of Artis to steal the beams from them that will restore all my chromatid levels and become even stronger. That’s the only way we can continue to have hope. As my skills continue to grow little by little, we will have a chance to explore Artis in its depths and you will get to choose where I go and who I encounter.
Once you have figured out how to escape from one of the bifronts you have to start again from square one trying to escape from the next. Each bifront has made his shelter in his own image and likeness and each one of those places is different from the other. Selius, one of the bifronts of intelligence, just like his siblings, has made his abode a real forge of riddles and puzzles to solve, while Yilias, one of the protectors of the beams of Trust, hides in the deep waters of his cave. The system of caverns constructed by the bifronts is complex and the escape routes are going to be different, each one of them with their own obstacles and secrets.
The beams that we are going to collect in the bifronts shelters are going to be useful in improving my skills. However, we have to figure out what the combinations of the fluids are and how to manipulate them using Genomia. Plus, time is of the essence. The more distance you can create between the bifronts and myself during the escape, the more time we can save and use to our advantage. The units of time obtained will be used to improve the Genomia machine.
I have to collect more beams possible in the shelters of the bifronts, otherwise our forces will be useless. From time to time, you have to carefully choose what I need most, Courage, Valor, Trust, or Intelligence. Are you the smart type? Or do you prefer to solve everything by force? Do you believe in yourself or aren’t afraid of anything? In any case, you should be able to understand what you want because we’re going to be in harmony. Your nature will become mine. You will discover everything on the go, because once we collect the beams, we have to do some research to figure out how to combine and activate them. My genomic system, CFA (the equivalent to your DNA) absorbs the right doses until new skills are activated.
During this whole adventure, we have to be careful not to be discovered by the Raadiants, the police authority of Artis, at the order of the Spheres. They will always be in hiding and if they should stop us, we won’t have a lot of time to show them that our fluids follow the rules. The virus that I created to cover up their inspections is pretty effective but we have to be good so that rhuleer, their scanner, doesn’t identify it. Otherwise we will be doomed. It will be a race against time and it won’t be easy to beat the more sophisticated antivirus of the rhuleers.
Once you have escaped from the bifront’s shelter, you can think about going in again and trying a different escape route. There could be hidden secrets still left behind. In the same way, later in the adventure, you can challenge the bifronts already faced the first time to catch you. Thanks to the new skills acquired, you can create a greater distance between you and the bifronts, giving you additional time units to improve Genomia. Unfortunately, once deprived of their fluids, the bifronts won’t stay to watch. We have to wait for their attacks on other dermonoids in an attempt to recover the genomic beams and refill their shelters with precious vital fluids. I know that I might seem selfish, but this could be a real advantage for us! When we make experiments with Genomia to see how to activate new skills, part of the fluids can get lost; not to mention those that we might lose while running away from the bifronts, especially if we get lost! Always having a way to go and get them back is a good thing. But be careful, the caverns of the bifronts can remain deprived of fluids for a long time and not having the beams would be extremely risky.
The humans who are helping me have developed a system so that you don’t have to be alone in this endeavor. You can ask for help from other people. Together you can face the bifronts mutually helping each other. One of you can distract a bifront while the other collects as much fluid possible to then run together towards the exit. In any case, there are many strategies that you can use.
Unfortunately however, if there are three of you facing the challenge, only the two of you can control me and Naìda, while the mind of the third person will be captured and used by a bifront. At this point it will be your friend who will have to do everything to capture you and suck your fluids. And he may know well your weaknesses. This does not mean an end in itself. The results that you will get with your friends in this stage (whether you are a bifront, me, or Naìda) will give you many advantages when you will play the single player campaign.
One of the things that our worlds have in common is Ysumel, what you call “music”. Since childhood, our mothers have made us listen to songs from our ancestors to feel part of our world. Ysumel inspires us and guides us on our paths of life. I have created a song for you so that you can be inspired to the point of feeling a part of me and of the emotions I feel.
Us dermonoids are different from you humans. Our appearance can somewhat be similar to yours in structure. Our physical appearance is very simple and basic and a first impression of us can make us seem simple compared to you. On the outside, our body is covered by a special material, which we call viridium.
Viridium is very resistant and is impossible to hurt us. It protects our bio-mechanical components, where the genomic beams, our vital fluids, flow through. The beams feed our four chromatids; Intelligence, Valor, Courage, and Trust, and each one of them, has a different color. Blue is the beam that supports the chromatid of Intelligence, without which we wouldn’t be able to speak or reason; yellow is the chromatid of Courage, which allows us to face dangers without thinking twice; red is the color of Valor, the fluid that determines the state of health of the dermonoids, and green represents Trust in ourselves, thanks to which we are able to make decisions. Our ancestors, the artenoids, only had two chromatids. In order to keep the balance of their species, they entirely forbid coupling between two artenoids with different chromatids.
Over time, the levels of our beams physiologically go down and that’s the way we grow old. There are, unfortunately, other reasons to why our fluids can drop dangerously regardless of time as well. The food we eat, our worries and anxieties, are amongst the most significant reasons. The Spheres, the authorities that govern Oran Ba, have imposed strict rules under which the dermonoids with low levels of chromatids called Impure, are exiled to the poorest and coldest places on the Dermids, giving the privileges to the largest and wealthiest cities only to the Pure ones. That’s why the Aerolimb, a system of holocarboids, was created. They are inserted inside our bodies, which thanks to a particular holographic representation give the Spheres a chance to check our fluid levels. We are put under periodic mandatory inspections, but the Raadiants, the police forces of Artis, can stop us at any time to scan us with their rhuleers. I found a way to manipulate the Aerolimb and pass the inspections, but i don't know for how long i'll be able to continue to trick the Spheres.
My chromatids are always getting weaker. The genomic beams are slowly abandoning me and I feel like I’m dying with each passing day. My life has not been easy. I was born with a genetic malformation that my parents have always hidden from the Spheres. My fluids underwent a change and because of the significant lack of selendium, my intelligence was transformed into genius. It is a rare event, but for me it was just a curse. I’m more intelligent than any other dermonoid but the changes that occurred because of the lack of selendium make me particularly unstable. Moreover, the severe and rigorous way in which my parents have raised me, has made me become insecure. I lost trust in myself and now anxiety has gotten the best of me.
It’s time we talk about Naìda, my best friend. The last thing I wanted to do was to put her life at risk, but I got her involved in this mess because she was the only one who knew my secret and who could actually help me. I’m worried about her; I’m convinced that she has something in mind. When she saw Genomia for the first time, her look changed.
Naìda is the dermonoid who I am closest to after Tecla and my parents. She has always supported me since we were young. Unlike me, Naìda has always been strong and confident. With her, I found myself doing things that I would have never imagined. Her adventurous spirit always prompted her to explore even the most hidden places of Artis and she often forced me to follow her. I have to admit that the adrenaline and excitement that I felt in those moments were strong, even though my heart was pounding like it wanted to free itself from the weight of the most distant fears. Naìda is always smiley and her warrior nature can never be questioned.
Taking control of Naìda will let us uncover her story.
I invented Genomia and it is thanks to this machine that you will be able to guide me to my safety. I built it in a way so you can manipulate my beams and combine them in the right way to improve my skills. Although the basic functioning is finished, I didn’t have time to build all of its parts. The projects that I am going to share with you foresee improvements that are going to take it to a higher level of functionality. There’s so much we can get out of Genomia but we need time. The more time we have on our hands, the more we can keep improving it.
What would you do if you had the chance to change your DNA? Would you become a better person? Would you get rid of all your weaknesses? True, it would be a dream; I found a way to do it in my world and the harmony that we can create will let you change my genetic characteristics at your own will, just as if you were doing it on yourself. Here’s how the Genomia system works.
Each of the four fluids on every genomic ring has an availability of 8 slots to fill. We have to do several tests before finding the right combinations of fluids for each genomic ring to discover and activate my skills. I can have a maximum of 12 at a time, up to three for every area of my body and each one will have a specific function depending on the part of the body on which they are found. With the right combinations you can help me become very powerful. We can activate super-set of skills that once combined between them, can achieve maximum power and transform to an Ultraset, giving life to a new speciation.
They used to be called the One’s. They were part of the artenoids, our ancestors. The One’s evolved with only one chromatid because of the carbophotonic rains and that’s why they were immediately considered weak, inferior to any other living being. Over time, two distinct groups were created who quickly came to hate each other. On one hand, the artenoids who were considered strong, gifted with two chromatids and the Only One’s, the “freaks of nature”, considered to be a real abnormality. There were many wars that were raged over the years, but the longest and bloodiest of them all was Ephitelium, which occurred around 1000 years ago.
The artenoids, in the end, eventually prevailed thanks to the strength and wisdom of the "Dermides of Artis", born after the decision to cancel one of their biggest bans. By coupling two artenoids with different chromatids, the founder of the nation of dermonoid people, the one with four chromatids was given birth, and is still remembered today. It was the beginning of a new era. The One’s, defeated, found refuge in the deep and dark caverns of the Dermids.
The lack of fluids didn't kill the One's, but their bodies underwent such transformations which made them monster like. They were immortal creatures.
We started calling them bifronts.
The rewards will not be available until the development of the game has been completed. This is because the main goal of the team is to make a high quality video game and rewards. And this is the reason why the rewards will be shipped in December 2017. No tricks: they can't make it before that time, saying otherwise would be a lie to you all. For this reason, the shipping costs will be dealt with later on, separately from the Kickstarter campaign, in order to be kept as low as possible.
- The shipping cost will not be lower than $5 USD
- The average shipping cost will be around $20 USD
- The maximum cost will NOT exceed $35 USD
Please, keep in mind that the costs may also vary depending on the destination country.
Note: for backers only!

- In case 5.000 of you followed me, I would choose the best selfie of you and me among all those you’ll send me using the #XXXX hashtag, and hang it in my laboratory so that while playing, everybody will be able to see it. (Note: the hashtag will be revealed once this achievement will be unlocked)
When I found out about the existence of your planet thanks to a hidden holosinth on the top floors of the Observatory, the only thought that came to mind was to find a way to contact you, hoping to find someone who could help me.
FOLLOW US AND KEEP IN TOUCH! YOU ARE WHAT MAKES THIS PROJECT REAL!
The humans who are helping me have invested a lot in kicking off this project that is going to save my life. So much has already been done. The prototype that you see in the video was produced, but to create a real game, additional work is needed. They continue to move forward until they achieve their set goals, but won’t be able to complete the entire project alone. They don’t have what you humans call “big corporations” supporting them, and aren’t even known in the world of video games.
Risks and challenges
Creating a video game system like this one is not so easy. There are many elements to keep under control and balance them in the best possible way. The system is large and complex but our developing team is working day after day to make sure everything works out for the best.
Whoever is going to play this video game has to have fun, otherwise he/she won’t be able to help me, even unconsciously. The developing team is made up solely of people who are passionate, true players from childhood. They have done a lot of research and have used their experience to provide Humans with a game that is liked and that responds to the demands of the terrestrial gamers. What you saw in the video presentation is only a prototype reflecting a part of what the developers have in mind. Enriching characters, doing researching, and using skills will be very intense and the work that needs to be done in order to make it all balanced and functional is truly exhausting. Asset graphics, level design, and all animations will be reviewed from the beginning and it will be constantly checked so that improvements can be made and tested thoroughly to give the player the best game experience possible.
The one thing I noticed in other video games is that the multiplayer section doesn’t always reflect the requests of gamers. Often there isn’t the right balance between the skills of various characters in the game and playing multiplayers sections won’t give you particular rewards when you play in the single-player section.
The developing team will find a way so that players can compete and cooperate evenly and there will be tangible consequences when they get back to playing as a single player. There will always be a reason to get in the game, both for casual and for hard-core players.
What the developing team would like to be clear on is that there will be no pay walls, or micro transactions. They are old school and whatever they want to offer will be a finished product, complete in each of its parts. That’s why there won’t be any DLC’s to buy, needed to finish the game. Only if the players give positive feedback on the game and show interest in continuing the experience will the team continue to develop additional contents to go back and visit my world.
Obviously, I don’t need to tell you that the risks in achieving all of this are many and the challenges numerous. The team has nothing to do with the big Triple A software houses of your planet, and is very Indie in the true sense of the word. That’s why they need your help. They want to show you that competent people who are able to create quality video games exist even in Italy. With your help, they can accomplish it and therefore my salvation depends on it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
