About

Celtic Twilight Irish Music and Dance show will the one of the most authentic Irish music and dance shows and only one of two based in the U.S. With some of the finest Traditional Irish/Celtic musicians and dancers in Northern California the show will be a celebration of some of the most popular and eclectic Celtic music around with music performed on voice, harp, fiddle, guitar, concertina, bodhran (Irish frame drum), Irish flute/whistle and the Irish Uilleann pipes. The shows vocals music will be something really unique in that every member of the band sings and there’ll be songs sung with three part harmonies in Irish and Scotts-Gaelic and English.

The funds raised by this campaign are going to go towards paying the cast (the musicians & dancers), theatre rental expenses, insurance for the performance as required by each venue, and for promotional needs, flier, posters, postcards, newspaper ads etc etc.. Oh and to pay each venues main promoter.

Celtic Twilight isn't intended to be a one time performance with a run of 2-4 shows. The show will be professional filmed and used as part of the promotional kit to book the show into small theatres and performing arts centers all across northern California.

Some of the profits of the show are going to go back into the show to make it larger and much more elaborate enabling me as the show’s creator/producer and director to better give form to my imagination. This will include the purchase of more stage props, better set design, bringing in more musicians and dancers, improving costumes, the purchase of smoke machines and wireless mic headsets for the singers to be able to roam and move around, and other key elements to allow the show to bring the magic and mysticism of the ancient Celts to life.

Risks and challenges

Once the funds are available renting a theatre and setting a date is easy. The challenge is promotion so I've decided to go with theatres either where I know the former artistic director who's committed to doing all the promotional work, where the theatre/performing arts center has agreed to co-produce the show which I'll negotiate as them doing most of the promo work, or with venues that have agreed to sponsor the show waiving or lowering the rental fee.

A set back could be a deal with a theatre/venue falls through so I'm doing my homework contacting more venues than I'll actually plan to use to have a plan B. Another more complex but cheaper option is instead of renting an actual theatre or performing arts center is finding venues that has a stage, enough seating but then I'd be looking at who's going to handle tickets sales, promoting the show, bringing in a sound system, lighting, staffing for the night of the performance. If this is the case using my connections in the music community which includes the connections that my band mates and guest artist have

There are easy to use ticket sales like Ticket Leap I could use for the tickets sales. I can as people I know well in my community to staff the door and usher. If it's small enough space perhaps an all acoustic show would work well. I'd need to hire a really great promoter and do it myself if I end renting a church hall that has a stage. Promoters usually work on a percentage of the door the better job they do the more money they make. I can either borrow a sound system or rent one with the expense being covered by the money saved from not renting a whole theatre. Asking a friend to run the sound board or hiring someone is either free or fairly inexpensive.
