CHARACTERS and CREATURES so far
I really want to achieve the feeling of a breathing world like creatures hanging around, eating, sleeping, etc... before recognizing you.
the Story
Talking nonlinear storyline, the player is able to move on a world map and to discover new places and areas of the game. You will get „quests“ by a visual impression, basically a shining of light showing you what to do in a certain area of the game. Solving this, the game reveals a part of Aiks background story. It doesn´t really matter in which order the player is solving these puzzles and unlocks the background story fragments, in the end you will understand. Sometimes Aik also gets new abilities like floating for a short time to pass gaps in order to reach new game areas.
About Development
In the very beginning of development, I imagined and started to create mainly a world to place a quest orientated story in. Combining strange creatures, organic structures und obscure/surrealistic settings to form a game that is an obscure and atmospheric adventure. Another aspect is the way of communication between the characters which I wanted to be unique and in a strange way, focusing on visual expression instead of text based conversations. Now, after defining art direction and visuals, it´s all about filling the game with the gameplay concept and putting in the story Aik wants to tell. There is still a long way to go in terms of animation and content.

The gameplay is focusing on a "quest like feeling" where you solve puzzles and fight creatures to progress through the storyline, traveling on a world map to visit and revisit obscure places.

Why is this game on Kickstarter?
Over the last months I worked on this project in my spare time, spending a lot of passion and heart into every frame and artwork. Now I´m realising that I need the financial backing to focus entirely 24/7 on this game to achieve the quality and to finish it in the way I want it to be finished and delivered.
What is your money used for?
Basically for game development costs, but also for Kickstarter fees, taxes, software business license and music recordings/productions.
Why should you trust this project?
Because I´ll work my ass off to make this game a journey for the player :)
Besides that - I am not doing this entirely on my own, I´m very happy to have good friends and professional supporters, helping me out with programming, visuals and gameplay/puzzle/story advice.
My main sources of inspiration for the ingame graphics came from natural structures and environments. Over the time, I took about 3000+ reference photos, combining a mixture of textures and handdrawn overlays and digital drawings to create the world of AiK.

Animations
As a great fan of old stop motion animations, I decided to create every frame of animation step by step not only to achieve this kind of creepy looking movements like in older Tim Burton movies but also to fit the obscure look of the general appearance and to add more "handmade" feeling to the gameplay.
A huge part of atmosphere, which is a key element of a story told without words, comes from its musical background. I am very thankful and happy to have Andreas Gräbner creating a moody, atmospheric and individualized soundtrack and the ingame sound effects for this project to make it also a musical experience.

WHAT IS THE TEST DEMO?
Not working in an airless bubble, I´m taking critics and feedback very serious. Therefore the TEST DEMO will be like a playground, of the game to check if the game is running and performing on different pcs and laptops and to get feedback for myself in the matters of player controls, keyboard settings and environment interaction + feeling and gameplay at an early stage of development.
I´m taking your feedback serious!
Even giving you the possibilitiy to change some values like walking speed, jump height, etc... in order to develop the gameplay with your feedback.
Preview of upcoming work
Although I don´t know if the campaign will be sucessful, I already keep working on new game elements and scenes in order to not waste time, pushing this project forward.

Risks and challenges
In fact, the only risk is that I can not meet the announced release date.
I would rather prefer to add one or two months than delivering a game, which is not running correctly or filled with bugs. I thought a lot about also offering physical copys of the game, but that would just add the risk of delivery failure or production issues.
As long as I am in good health, I will do this :)
