We want to make the feature film about Christer Pettersson who was accused of, sentenced for and later on freed from the murder of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme.
We have chosen Thorsten Flinck to play the role and by the reactions from all of the Swedish media it seems like we've found the perfect actor.
This is a story that should have been told by now.
The murder of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme in 1986 shook Sweden to its core and the case has become the biggest murder investigation in the world. Today there is aproximately 250 meters of shelves filled with files and leads.
The police came to accuse big political actors such as the terrorist organization PKK, American CIA and the apartheid regime of South Africa. But the one who was accused was Christer Pettersson - an addict with a troubled past.
In 1988 Christer Pettersson was pointed out a police line up by the widow Lisbet Palme. He was accused and convicted for the murder of Olof Palme by The District Court. In 1989 he was freed from all allegations after that the Court of Appeal found the witness not credible. Unfortunately the accusation followed Christer the rest of his life, making his already complicated life even more complex.
Christers story has never been told with an open mind, by that we mean that no one has attempted to see him as a person - and this is what we are all about. Make no mistake - Pettersson was in many ways a bad man who committed countless crimes and spent nearly twenty years in prison. The feature film about Christer Pettersson´s life will show the audience what happened after and between all the trials.
We want to answer the questions; ´who do one become when one gets accused of a terrible crime? And what happens to one as a person when the whole society turns against you?
To do this we need your support so that we can develop our script with a deeper research and to kickstart the production on the movie about Christer Pettersson.
Our story is known by every Swede but we want to capture an international audience as well. The story is unique in every sense but in the same way - this could be the fate of a character in a Kafka novel.
Emilio pitched the idea to Dick and they began to work, writing on the script, contacting the best possible people to work with and created the home base in Stockholm that is Luftslottet.
Today we are dead set on creating all the best circumstances for the movie and to show the world who the alleged Prime Minister killer Christer Pettersson really was.
We are Luftslottet
Luftslottet is motley group of creative minds working toward common goals. Our base camp is located in an industrial area in the outskirts of southern Stockholm.
We need to do the necessary interviews with people who have stories about Christer Pettersson. We’ll conduct them by employing semi structured interviews. This is what we think will get us the closest thing to a complete picture of him.
We can complete the gathering of as many of the preliminary investigations from the police concerning most of the crimes Christer was a suspect in. We are also working on getting relevant court records. With this material we’ll get the picture that the police and the judiciary system painted.
We’re also using advanced media archives to access interviews and articles about and with Christer Pettersson.
By triangulating the sources we are certain to come as close to the truth as we possibly can.
Side project involving Christer Pettersson.
The Documentary - Filmmaker Fabian Sigurd has followed the project from its beginning. He has gathered hours and hours of interesting and exciting material with the team behind the film and with our lead actor Thorsten Flinck. If we meet our goals on Kickstarter the documentary is going to be released later on.
After all the rewards has been shipped to their new homes we estimate that we can do the following things.
We will be able to gather the research material that is left to complete the story and get the accurate timeline over Christer's life. The funds will be used for travel expenses across the country to meet people who knew Christer Pettersson. Another traveling expense is for the location scouting.
Since a lot of the police documentation isn't digitized we have to cover our expenses when we get copies of the originals. This goes for court records as well and the total amount of documentation is tremendously huge.
With the estimated budget we’ll get the opportunity to finish up the preproduction and then move forward.
Why this is important!
This project is important because even though no one else has even been close to experience what Christer did somehow a lot of people can relate to his story. He is the symbol of people that society don't really want to see - at the same time Sweden couldn't get enough of him.
