£2000 - STRETCH GOAL UNLOCKED
Backers that have pledged for ANY of the print-related rewards will receive an A5 (148mmx 210mm) 12 page book of Adam’s black and white HERE & THERE art. This will feature select pieces of Adam’s fully rendered work on the project, including the cover, promo pieces, pinup images and some pieces illustrated exclusively for this art book. ALL backers will receive a digital copy of this art book as well. An example below...
What is HERE & THERE?
HERE & THERE is a full-colour 52 page psychological horror one-shot comic (say that quickly after a few drinks) intended for mature audiences. The story is about a personal journey of coming to terms with crippling guilt and how that manifests in horrific ways. It also deals with the themes of loss, responsibility, forgiveness, redemption and monsters ripping your eyeballs out.
What’s it about?
Brief non-spoiler-y synopsis:
Eric Jacobs is a damaged man. With his body in a coma, he unwittingly ekes out an existence in an inescapable dream-state where he’s hunted by wave after wave of monstrous creatures. But with a cryptic message from ‘the outside’, Eric’s time is starting to run out...
What are people saying about it so far?
'The art by Adam Jakes and colours by Aljosa Tomic...are easily worthy of an Image book' - Tony Esmond, THE AWESOME COMICS PODCAST
'It's not for the faint of heart...' - Clare Hemsworth, FANDEMONIUM NETWORK
Why Kickstarter? And what will my money be used for?
We felt HERE & THERE was the perfect book to attempt our first Kickstarter campaign. It’s a one-shot, so it’s a completely self-contained story. We have more stories formatted in this way, and we’re hoping to build an audience on this platform that might help us to tell them.
Our funding target has been kept as small as possible; it’s enough to cover printing and production of the rewards, as well as postage. Any additional money will help us increase the scale of production and get the book out to more readers. Plus we have some great stretch goals planned if we get there!
And what do I get if I open my purse strings?
Rewards tailored to how you like to read comics. Take a look below for more details -
Digital rewards -
Ranging from a basic 'no frills' digital package for £2 to a big ol' Digital Mega Bundle package for £10 that includes most of my back catalogue and Ken's COGNITION #0-2, PLUS a code that entitles you to a THREE MONTH subscription to the Comichaus app.
Print rewards -
You like that smell of print? So do we. £8 gets you the standard print package, but for £12 that will include TWO incredible art prints by HERE & THERE artists Adam Jakes and Aljosa Tomic PLUS an art print by our good friend Kier Gill [image to be revealed soon...].
However, if you want to Go Big, £35 will get you a large selection of my back catalogue - the recently released CLOSE, IMPOSSIBLE and DARK MATTER II. Check out my website (www.chrissideswriter.com) for more information on all of them.
[PLEASE NOTE: An apology; international postage is expensive for this reward - when are they going to invent teleportation? Or at least teleportation that doesn't turn you into an acid-puking human fly?]
Art rewards -
Our Adam Jakes is a HUGE horror fan, so has designed a commission package that fits the book and his dark sensibilities - for £55, Adam will produce a fully rendered, black and white illustration of one of the creatures from HERE & THERE invading your life, be it photobombing, disturbing you at work, or downright eating your guts. After you pledge and once the campaign ends, you'd send him some reference pics and he'll do the rest!
Check out these examples he's done of the creative team -
PLUS, the book's cover is up for grabs - this original A3 art is one-of-a-kind, so once it's gone, it's gone.
The Big One -
Fancy spending a day with the 3 out of 4 of the creative team? Do you like beer and comics? (We're kind of assuming that you like at least one of those things, otherwise you wouldn't be here, right?) This reward offers you the chance to come and spend the day with Chris, Adam and Ken in Chris' hometown of Leighton Buzzard (not a Bond villain) in Bedfordshire. While not working on comics, Chris works part-time at the Leighton Buzzard Brewing Co, so has access to beer. Lots of beer.
You'd spend the day with the team at the brewery, sampling some of the great ales on offer (not a sales pitch, they really are nice) and chatting all things comics.
As part of this trip, we're offering a Creative Package -
If you're an aspiring comics writer/indie writer after some honest feedback, Chris and Ken will offer to read your script pre-meet up and give you some (beer-fuelled) feedback on the day.
If you're an aspiring artist/indie artist after some honest feedback, Adam will be on hand to take a look through your portfolio and give feedback.
As part of that reward, if you're a creator in need of a cover/pinup for your project, then Adam will take details pre-meet up and produce the artwork ready to hand over on the day, along with your bespoke A5 art commission (see JAKES COMMISSION PACKAGE).
However, if you just like the sound of hanging out with us at a brewery and talking everything comics, then heading out for a meal and some more beers, then that's cool too!
There's a plethora of extras with this package, including ALL the rewards that are listed below (aside from the original cover) AND it includes hotel accommodation.
[PLEASE NOTE: you MUST be 18+ to pledge for this reward and live in the UK. This reward DOES NOT include travel expenses to and from Leighton Buzzard. The reward covers all expenses for ONE person only, but don't worry, you'll be among friends and while we might create horrible stories about horrible things happening to nice people, we're a lovely bunch. Honest. And I don't mean that in a Hannibal Lector 'We Can Be Nice Before We Eat You' kind-of way.]
But, who are you all?
Can I look at some of your other stuff before I pledge?
Sure you can! Here’s a link to THE LAST BATCH by Chris, 2000AD artist Dan Cornwell and Ken; it's a short booze-fuelled (possible theme here?) zombie romp that’s included in DARK MATTER II. It was a finalist in the 2017 Ghost City Comics Competition and was included in their 2017 Finalists anthology. You can download and read this for FREE here.
Why are all your headings questions?
Well, why not?
Risks and challenges
This is my first Kickstarter campaign, but not my first comic-making rodeo. I've been creating comics for the last 9 years and understand what it takes to see a book through full production, as do the other members of the team.
We're incredibly fortunate to have Ken Reynolds onboard; Ken has seen through SEVEN of his own campaigns and has aided others in their quest to bring projects to life.
Adam's artwork is already completed. Our colourist, Aljosa Tomic, is hard at work and is scheduled to have the colours completed by the end of December, if not sooner. Then it's to Ken for letters, a final copy edit and we're ready to rock.
As you can see, we're looking to complete by February 2019. We're hoping for sooner. The ONLY thing that might delay us is an outbreak of zombies. That tends to put things back a little bit, but even then, we're prepared for that eventuality.
IF any unforeseen problems do arise for whatever reason, we will keep you informed as to what they are and what we're doing to overcome them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
