UPDATE STRETCH GOAL #1 UNLOCKED!! ALL BACKERS will receive this limited-edition fine art book mark by Ferid Sepehr, one of the best artists in the world:
Magnus is the barbarian chief of a sleepy mountain village. As long as he can remember, he has been able to reach a god-like level of berserker-rage in battle.
He is on a journey to discover the source and purpose of this power.
Along the way, Magnus encounters a number of colorful allies, faces unspeakable foes, liberates cities, travels to the underworld, and learns the secrets of his mysterious parents.
He also discovers that there is an equal, opposite power in the world…
…and it’s looking for him.
Magnus The Brave #1 is a 40-page comic in standard comic book size.
Magnus The Brave was created, penciled, inked, colored, and lettered by Chris Rau. Ace Nuckolls is the co-writer.
One of the things that makes Magnus unique, is the Art style. All panel images begin as hand-drawn pencil and inks created by Chris Rau. He then meticulously digitally-colors them.
Aesthetically, there are two major influences for Magnus The Brave:
Chris grew up watching 80s and 90s-era Saturday morning cartoons. Visually, Magnus The Brave has a similar bright, bold color palette and style.
Conversely, both Chris and Ace are fans of ultra-violent anime from the early 2000s. So, this book is also violent. Brutally violent. It contains some breathtaking action sequences and dynamic, bloody fights between super-powered characters.
From a narrative standpoint, Magnus The Brave is a mix of Conan The Barbarian and Samurai Jack, with a little Borderlands and Thor sprinkled in.
Magnus The Brave will take readers on a journey through a landscape of crazy locations, wild monsters, scary villains, interesting allies, and chaotic battles.
If you like lone warrior stories, this book is for you. Magnus is basically a Barbarian Ronin.
In order to cover my printing and production costs, I need to raise $1500.
Thank you so much for taking the time to look through this project. Please support it if you think it's worth your hard-earned money.
Here's a quick collage of the artistic process that goes into each and every panel in the book:
Magnus will return in Issue #2 soon!
Risks and challenges
The book is completely finished. Once the campaign funds, there will be a 2-3 week period where the book will need to be printed, delivered, packaged up and shipped out. My goal is to have this to everyone by March 2019. There are always possible hiccups along the way, but I have a track record of delivering products on schedule. This should be no different.
