About

The Story

A chance encounter between civilians and InGen - the corporate machine behind Jurassic Park - sets in motion events that place the park and its unsuspecting visitors on a collision course. Weaving elements of both the novel and the film, The Incident was written to cater both to fans of the franchise and those who are only casual admirers. Think of this short as a set of extended or deleted scenes that bridge components of the films not shown on screen. This action-packed short film promises to be one hell of a ride.

The Ask

We love Jurassic Park, and we know you do too. We want to tell an untold story from the Crichton universe within the visual construct of Spielberg's films. Point blank, my creative team and I are asking you guys to help us realize a dream we all shared when reading the novels, playing with toys, and wearing out the VHS copies of the movies. Of course, this is a fan film without need or ability to gain profit because, you know, copyright. That said, our goal is to fill a gap in the fan film world currently occupied by Star Wars, Power Rangers, and the like by bringing forth a new franchise fan film event and rock your socks in the process.

What We Need

The script is short and the final piece should run about 12 minutes in length. And, as much as we have found ways to reach the moon by trading or calling in past favors, there are just some things that you can't barter for. Filmmaking, and this story specifically, requires tools and resources that can't be borrowed or bartered for. One-time use items like food or specialty rentals, script-specific wardrobe, set construction, location fees, insurance (you'll see why), etc are what you're kicking for us.

We need $12,500 to get this done our way. With additional funds will come additional opportunities for us to do even more with this project. Stretch goals of $15,000 and $20,000 are ready to implement which will allow us to put more into the score, the digital intermediate (post production color, etc), lighting, and beyond.

Pre-production is already in progress and locations are being secured. The script is ready and has undergone several revisions and we couldn't be more excited. The creative team and I are ready to move on this as soon as we see the light at the end of the tunnel on funding. Join us on this journey for a fun film based on beloved material that will knock your socks off.

The Team

Since we're asking for you to trust us, here's who we are:

Chris Lyon

Director/Producer/Co-Writer

I'm Chris Lyon, a filmmaker living in Shreveport, Louisiana. I'm most known for my role as the Filmmaker Liaison for the coolest film festival on the planet - the Louisiana Film Prize where I have worked with an incredible team to make available NWLA film resources to over 200 films and filmmakers from across the country while working to congeal the Louisiana film community. I've been directing and producing films for over 7 years in Northwest Louisiana and have co-produced, consulted, or otherwise been a part of over two dozen local projects from television programming to documentary, short, and feature films. Aside from my independent projects, I've worked on many studio film and television projects in both Shreveport and New Orleans. I like trains, dinosaurs, and space travel.

Mindy Bledsoe

Producer/Co-Writer

Mindy is a sharp, headstrong filmmaker who has directed four short films in the last 5 years including Most Likely to Kill which has played festivals from New York to Paris. She also helps the local film community by reviewing scripts and serving as assistant director on many projects. This will be the first collaboration between Mindy and I creatively though we have worked on several films together in other capacities. Mindy's next film #TheFutureIsCrowdFunded is currently in post-production.

Rob Senska

Cinematographer

Shreveport-based cinematographer Rob Senska will lens the film. Rob has shot over a dozen independent short and feature films since arriving in Shreveport including SCRAPE, Most Likely To Kill, and the upcoming #TheFutureIsCrowdFunded. Rob and I have worked together as editor and cinematographer a few times now and I can't wait to get to work with him in a director/cinematographer relationship. Rob loves comic book movies and Transformers.

Patrick McBride/Derek Tovar

Production Management

Patrick McBride and Derek Tovar will be organizing the production and ensuring that we stay on target with all the paperwork and budget. They have worked on many studio films in Shreveport and New Orleans with great success. Patrick's credits include Olympus Has Fallen, and worked with Derek on The Host, and The Maze Runner. I can't wait to work with them directly for the first time. This will be our first direct collaboration. Patrick is a Buffalo Bills fanatic. Derek has been working in the industry since 2009 and has, of late, focused on production office positions like production secretary. His credits for film include pictures like The Maze Runner and The Host.

Clyde Hargrove

Production Designer

Clyde Hargrove is locked in to be the production designer based on illustrations by Hillary Frazier. Clyde is best known for his role as guitarist in Super Water Sympathy but has recently moved into the film world with his short film Rydia and the Timekeepers which features some pretty spectacular design. This will be my first collaboration with Clyde, who is always looking for new ways to create.

David Forshee

Post-Production Sound

David is a close friend of mine. We've been working on projects together since 2009. He was the man behind the curtain of post-production sound for my last film Stay With Me and has since moved to New York where he has worked on many projects, including Fort Tilden, which won the Grand Jury Prize at SXSW 2014. David loves giraffes.

Ashley M. Clark

Special Effects Makeup

Ashley works at Millennium Studios in Shreveport and has helped coordinate SRAC's UNSCENE! projects over the last year. There is something really special in this project we require her for, which is about as much as you'll get out of us. Without her, we wouldn't be able to make this project a success. In her limited free time, Ashely is a hoop girl.

And the rest...

Among the others participating in this project are Jeremy Spring, Alec McCommon, my brother Josh Lyon, among others. There are even more people who I am in discussion with to join the team - some of whom I've worked with closely for years, some who have just started to come into their own in the last year or so. Much of the crew has opted to work on the barter system, which is how we get things done 'round here. Professional work for professional work. I help them make their films, they help me make my films. This is great for the budget and for building a film community that constantly pushes upward. It's a win-win, but there are still expenses, which is why we're here. Donate today, get a couple of cool kickbacks. Remember, the more we spend to kick back to you, the less money we actually get to make the film - so bear with us and give what you can because you want to, not just for the cool rewards.

Thank you for taking the time to read this long explanation. If you have comments or questions, don't hesitate to ask. Let's kick it!

Risks and challenges

You won't get any money back and I can't profit from it because the script is based on someone else's existing material. We're asking for help to make a film that will be fun for me to make. It's a passion project. That's all.
