What we would like to make?
A darkly comedic futuristic web series, consisting of ten five minute episodes.
What's the show?
Set in an Orwellian, dystopian future. A permanently tired and dejected interviewer in a product testing government facility works under the authoritarian matriarch, “M.O.T.H.E.R.”. Each episode sees him testing a new product on a new subject and measuring the results. Eventually existential angst gets the better of him and he starts questioning the machine in which he is a very small cog. . . but with lots of laughs too.
How are you going to make it?
Although set in the future the action of the web series takes place in entirely in the Interviewers ten foot by ten foot work station thus allowing us to keeping the filming schedule very tight and the filming requirements simple. The show will be shot at this one location by our crew on 1080p HD cameras using professional studio lighting. Scott and Chris will direct all episodes as well as editing it together using feature film quality editing software. All episodes are being shot in one week in January 2018.
Who have you got involved?
Each episode sees the main character interviewing a new member of the public so each episode will have at least one guest star. A great cast of emerging and established comedic and dramatic actors have already confirmed their appearance in the series, including; Chris Mayo (Electric Dreams), Norman Lovett (Red Dwarf), Rachel Parris (The Mash Report, Austentatious, The IT Crowd, Murder in Successville), Holly Mallett (CBeebies Live Arena Tour, Notflix at Edinburgh Fringe), Carla Harrison-Hodge (Fresh Meat), Evelyn Lockley (Labyrinth Festival at The Almeida Theatre, The School For Scheming at The Orange Tree, Hay Fever at Theatre Royal Windsor) Hannah Warman (To Trend On Twitter), Jenny Walters (Jolly Boys Last Stand, Transmission Interrupted), Emma Tansley (Women Redressed at The Arcola), Megan Smith (Mixed Doubles, Sketchorama for BBC Radio 4). More cast to be announced soon!
What will we spend your money on?
Making TV shows is an expensive business. Your money will go to help to pay for; our cast, a shooting location, lights, camera, crew, transport, props, costumes and food, to name just a few things.
The £1000 we're asking for is the MINIMUM we need for the series to be made, all our actors and crew will be working for expenses to cover their time very kindly given up to make the show happen. Don't forget, if we don't raise the money, the project doesn't happen at all!
Of course, we would love to pay everyone the standard going rate, but we can only do this if we raise more than our minimum target. So we would really really love to reach the following goals:
If we can get to £2000 we can guarantee everyone involved a daily rate and also cover the costs of extra props and set design.
If we can raise £2500 we can pay everyone a better daily rate AND cover the cost of initial marketing via Facebook and Twitter.
If we can raise £3000 we'll be able to pay everyone involved well, get all the set, props and costume we need to make the show to a very high quality and market it through Facebook and Twitter so everyone we want to reach can find out about it.
Rest assured, this show is being made with an absolute passion to create the best possible quality piece of work, paying everyone fairly, and giving you the best end result. Every penny raised we are entirely grateful for.
In exchange for your kind donations, not only will you get to see the finished product, you can pick from a whole heap of rewards from early access to the episodes to custom drawn personalised cartoons and short stories. Check out the various rewards available on the right hand side of the page.
How can we watch it?
Once the show is funded, we'll start early promo and preparations for the shoot in January 2018. We plan to edit in around 2-3 weeks and have the show up online in February 2018 via YouTube and the shows Facebook page (coming soon). People who pick the early access rewards will be able to watch all episodes via a password protected link before anyone else!
What are the shows future plans?
We're already planning a second season of the show, which we hope to start work on later next year. Once the show has had a chance to build some interest online, we'll be pitching it in a longer form to TV production companies, either for online or for TV broadcast. We would love the show to have a life beyond the 5 minute online episodes.
Risks and challenges
There is a risk that we won't secure the minimum amount of money we need to make the project happen, that's why we've thought hard about how we could make the show on a small budget and set this as our goal. We very much hope to raise beyond our target so we can create the highest quality show possible, but we think what we're asking for is realistic and necessary.
Working on a low budget, there's always the chance that actors may get offered larger projects making the unavailable, however, as we're filming two episodes a day and are having a flexible shoot schedule to prepare for any illness or unavailability we should be able to work around any unlikely problems. Plus, we have an awesome, dedicated, passionate group of actors and crew on board who are very excited to make the show with us...so that helps!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
