Frequently Asked Questions
At the end of the campaign.
There seems to be some confusion over the weekly freebies I've created. These freebies are simply little extras to help with using the journal once you get it. View them as prep work so you're fully motivated and prepared to use the journal when you get your hands on it.Last updated:
I want to try the printable version before I invest in a physical journal. If I find it is working for me can I purchase one after the campaign finishes?
Of course. For anyone that is either unable to contribute financially or isn't convinced it will work for them, they can get the PDF version for £1 (or free with a share). If you then find it is working for you, you'll be able to get the physical version through our website after the Kickstarter campaign finishes.Last updated:
Choosing your own habits is preferential, but it can't hurt to get a few ideas. This is why we've created The habit List, a vault of ever increasing habits to help you achieve those goals. The Habit List is available to backers through our website.Last updated:
Yes. It was originally designed as 12 monthly sections of 4 weeks each, with a final section for spare weeks (for those 5 week months). However, we found going back and forward between the spare weeks and the month section to be awkward. So in true Habit Journal style we simplified. There are now 13 individual and undated 4 week plans, meaning you can start any time of the year, and any time of the month...the habit of No Procrastinating: checkLast updated:
The more I use the journal surely the more habits I'll have to track as time goes on - how would they all fit in the journal?
They don't. But here's where you realise it's working for you. When it moves from being a tracked habit to being a naturally reoccurring habit. It's one you'll no longer have to track as it will be automatic.
The reason the journal works is because you are focusing on your daily activities and MAKING them habit. Now that might take one 4 week session or it might take three 4 week sessions depending on the desired habit. But once it becomes habit, you no longer need to track it. It will be part of who you are and how you operate day to day. There are some brilliant books out there on habits that go into this in more detail if you're interested in the science behind it. The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg for example. I like to think The Habit Journal bridges the gap between explaining how habits work, and how to actually implement them for yourself...but maybe that's just me :-)Last updated:
No matter what the habit, good or bad, the key to making the journal work is to be 100% committed. For bad habits there is slightly more effort required because on top of tracking the bad habit, you should be consciously replacing it with a good one.
Here's how to do it: Set your goal and only focus on that for the 4 week session. In this case the goal is to quit smoking. Then you need to track your bad habit - in this example, count the number of cigarettes you are smoking a day. Plan to gradually decrease this number each day but always be honest if you smoke more.
Whilst tracking this, think of a habit you could replace smoking with when you get that trigger feeling of needing a cigarette. Let's say chewing a piece of gum. Add chewing gum to the weekly tracker and every time you swap a cigarette for gum, track it.
Eventually you should notice a swing in balance from cigarettes smoked to gum chewed. When you reflect at the end of the 4 weeks, if you are still smoking then carry the goal over to the next 4 week session and repeat. This should work for any bad habit you want to give up.Last updated:
Yep, this is intentional. We all need time off from our goals and habits and Sunday seems like a natural break between weeks. You can still practice your habits if you wish, but I prefer to put my feet up, celebrate my successes from the past week, and plan my great week ahead.Last updated:
On your website, there is a linen finished journal but on the Kickstarter page it shows a black finish...which will I get?
The black finish is a soft vinyl and is currently the cover we have chosen. However, our manufacturer offers various cover finishes which we are looking into...maybe a stretch goal assuming we make our target?? Stand by for future updates on this one.Last updated:
