Update: Karl wanted us to show you what his Hoody cosplay looks like. Pretty spot-on, if you ask us. We reach 2k and everyone gets one.
Hey, guys! We're Team Anomalous and we want to thank you for taking a look at our book, as well as give you some info on it before you pledge. Firstly, Hoody: Sympathetic Murderer is, at heart, a story of injustice, wrongs being righted sort of thing.
On its surface, the story we are attempting to tell here is about a thirteen year-old boy - a teenager, which comes with its own set of challenges - he's young and he's angsty... and he's killing people. He's killing people over the most minute offenses. Like cutting in line. Sounds cool, we know, but it gets deeper. See, Hoody is all of us. He's the nerdy kid who gets shoved into a locker. He's the hurt child in so much despair that he takes his own life. He's the kid who gets shot walking through the wrong neighborhood with a bag of Skittles and a tea. And while these kids won't or can't fight back... Hoody can. So he does.
Hey, guys. Chris Johnson here. Hope you dig what we've got to show you. I'll just say a few words and show you some rewards and then give you a five page preview afterward as a thanks for reading. Hoody was a concept I came up with a few years back. He was always, at heart, a scrawny street kid who punished like the Punisher, but also had this whole identity disorder where he thought he was literally as old as planet Earth.
When I met Karl, we immediately hit it off and were working on the short story, "Listen", which ended up being the first chapter of this comic book. That was for the Savyer City Stories anthology, but we enjoyed working together so much that we decided to work on a 22 page Hoody comic and we're now about seven pages away from bringing you a completely unique and fresh story told the way only Anomalous Comics can tell it.
Sambas Suryadi is a brilliant colorist. I often marvel at his pages when he turns them in and say something about them looking like candy, so bright and vibrant, even the night scenes. Sambas did a test for the Listen cover and it was a wrap; he was our colorist. In all fairness, he does color a lot of Anomalous' books. He is working right behind Karl, with nine pages left to color before the book is complete. You'll see what I mean about the colors once you get a chance to read Listen below.
We are asking for help bringing this story to you for a few reasons. For one, we like money. As career artists, we don't see a lot of that. Secondly, we want to gauge interest in our character and in the story and values we want to impart to people. Kickstarter is a great way to do just that, see how many people want an exclusive item featuring your character on it, like a comic or a knit doll or a shirt or a... hoody.
With no further ado, I'll let Hoody speak for himself a bit. Again, thanks for reading this far, and for even considering our character and story for your edutainment. -- Chris Johnson.
We plan on having shirts and hoodies in addition to the rewards we have now. Drop us a line to let us know what kind of rewards you would like in order to back this refreshing project! Stay tuned for a lot of updates on this one.
Risks and challenges
There are tons of pitfalls when it comes to self-publishing, and we have been doing this almost a decade now, so we think we've gotten the formula close to down-pat. See if you agree.
We at Anomalous Comics, especially the creators behind this one, Karl, Sambas, and Chris, haven't even started this Kickstarter until we were 85% finished with the production of the book itself. By the time the campaign is ended in thirty days, the book will be complete. We also have the plush dolls here, and the buttons coming. By the time the campaign is ended, we will have those ready for backers. The only thing that will take time away from you receiving your books and merch is the actual packing and mailing. :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
