SpaceUp San Diego was awesome, so let's do it again! Back this project to get us started and get a patch, t-shirt, or pre-registration.

SpaceUp is a space unconference, where participants decide the topics, schedule, and structure of the event. Everyone who attends SpaceUp is encouraged to give a talk, moderate a panel, or start a discussion. Sessions are proposed and scheduled on the day they’re given, which means the usual “hallway conversations” turn into full-fledged topics.

SpaceUp San Diego 2010 was the first SpaceUp ever, and it was awesome. For 2011 we're making it even better, with full Spacevidcast coverage (and better two-way remote participation), an even comfier venue, and absolutely no refried beans. (That's our NO BEANS guarantee!)

You will be amazed at what comes out of SpaceUp. Based on past SpaceUps, we expect to see businesses started, problems solved, projects kicked off, plans hatched, and amazing friendships born.

Why use Kickstarter? Registration can't start until we set the date, the date isn't set until we book a venue, and our venue isn't booked until we put down a deposit. We do know SpaceUp is going to happen on a Saturday and Sunday in January 2011, somewhere fun in San Diego. If we meet the funding goal, everything will swing into gear and the venue and date will be announced by the end of October. If not... well, let's just make sure we meet that funding goal.

A note about cost:
$50 for a two-day conference is a great deal, and you get a t-shirt and food too. We'll barely cover the cost of putting this together, so it's not going to get any cheaper.

A note about remote attendees:
This year we're making a special effort to get remote attendees involved through live Spacevidcast coverage. Backing at $25 gets you the t-shirt and patch and a spot on the remote attendees list, plus some special goodies to help you feel connected. Basically, the only part of SpaceUp you'll miss is the food.

A note about student volunteers:
If you're currently a student and you're willing to volunteer during SpaceUp, you'll get a discounted registration (courtesy of the Launch Crew). Pledge $25 or more, let us know you're a student, and we'll upgrade your remote attendance to a full on-site registration.

A note about sponsors:
If you would like to sponsor SpaceUp San Diego, take a look at the full list of sponsorship levels at our website. Those won't go toward the Kickstarter funding total, but they give you more options.
