I think a little booster goal of $19000 as in order. A limited edition, double sided bookmark with AR a character celebrating MoR!'s success. The bookmark will measure 3"(7.62cm) x 7"(17.78cm) and will be for ALL Unit levels 01-08. This character will be designed specifically for this goal and this campaign.
So let's rally the forces for the final push. Let's put a robotic cherry on the top of this bad boy!!!
My name is Dacosta! I’m a self-taught designer/illustrator, living in Vancouver, Canada. Now, if you ask anyone that knows me, they’ll tell you I have a thing for robots :)
Heck yeah! ROBOTS ARE AWESOME!!! I can’t say this enough. I think about robots all day long and how they will shape our future. They’ve already become more than just fictional elements or characters in storybooks and films, and they’re going to be a big part of how humanity moves forward. I can’t think of anything I’d rather draw, so putting together a book that explores a subject I love seemed like a fun idea.
This is my first book and I’m proud to bring it to Kickstarter. “MARCH of ROBOTS!” will be a softcover book at 80 pages, printed in the US in full color on art-quality paper measuring 7.75" x 10”. Inside the book you’ll find all manner of robots, from super cute bots to action-ready mech. I hope to give you a look into my process, from rough pencil sketches to ink drawings to finished vector illustrations. The project also has a digital side which goes beyond the boundaries of traditional print by incorporating "augmented reality". I'm collaborating with some stellar 3D modellers and animators from the film and gaming industries to make this feature awesome. Folks like Glen Southern, Scott Wetterschneider, Noel Rubin, Steve Talkowski aka Sketchbot and Roberto Oliveria. By downloading a free companion app, you will be able to view animated 3D models and other elements of select images through your smartphone or tablet cameras.
I’ve always worked in the creative field. I’ve made my own vinyl toys and apps, as well as consulted on character designs for companies like Nintendo, Sony, Hasbro, and Spin Master. Now, while that work is always challenging and rewarding, the BIG goal has always been to draw on those past experiences to shape a fully independent studio that would allow me to be my own client. Dreaming up concepts that I think are fun and putting them out there to the world. So that’s why I’ve brought this to Kickstarter. It’s important to have the opportunities to connect to the folks that like what I do directly and who want to support those efforts. This is my first book and Kickstarter is an amazing space that enables that connection by allowing me to say “Hey guys! This is what I’m doing. Would you like to be a part of the journey?” It’s B to C, which is really Me to You and that’s invaluable.
A MASSIVE thank you for taking the time to look at my project. Check out the pledge levels below. If you choose to back my project, you’ll of course be helping to make this book a reality, but also helping to build a strong foundation for future projects. So as a self-taught, independent artist, it goes without saying that the support is appreciated.
Risks and challenges
This is my first Kickstarter but “not my first rodeo” as they say. I've funded and produced my own vinyl toys & apps and I'm used to managing multiple design projects every day, so I'm very comfortable delivering a final product.
I’ve also learned a lot from my colleagues who have run successful campaigns, so I feel I’ve taken precautions to reduce issues that may arise.
This project means the world to me and getting this book to you on schedule is my first priority. I’ve spent a lot of time discussing the needs of the book with the printer in great detail and we’re on the same page about delivering the best finished product possible.
