Chochkey Productions, www.chochkeyproductions.com held a contest with our friends at The Storymatic www.thestorymatic.com, to find the best writers out there. Our promise, we would pick a winner and turn their story into a film, yes film!
The winner was chosen in late 2010, "One Way Out" a short-story written by Kyle Petersen writes about a young man whose struggle with his sexuality and bullying leads him into a dark depression and the world that he trusted comes crashing down around him.
2 days after we picked our winner 18 year old Rutgers student Tyler Clementi took his own life after being "outed" to his campus classmates in a humiliating and devastating way. So this project became more important than ever. This story is not only visually beautiful but is a relevant and critical.
We now had a film project that was not just another film but was a topic of discussion all over the world and we knew we had to do it justice. When we started this project to make a simple film we never thought we'd be filming a story that affects so many people in so many ways, so here we go!
We want to make an independent film that is not only something to remember but an eye opener, a memoir, a reaching out, an education, a history lesson and a picture of hope for anyone that has ever been affected by bullying, questioned their sexuality, suffered from depression or knows someone who has struggled with suicide.
Our goal is to raise enough money to make the best film we can and to create a body of work that is not only beautiful but also dedicated to those who want to stand up to bullying. Please help us create this film and donate whatever you can and we can all stand together to fight this battle and support independent film.
