About this project
Newest Add-on Released (Paying Homage)! Find out the specifics below!....waaaaay below.
Hoplomachus: Rise of Rome
Hoplomachus is a gladiatorial combat board game set during the Roman Empire. This game uses an incredible set of game mechanics that make it an extremely fun and unique turn-based strategy game. Chips are drawn out of a bag to then be selectively used on the game mat. These units and tactics (chips) are controlled by you as you compete for control of the arena. The basics of this game can be learned quickly, but that's only the beginning. Hoplomachus challenges you to plan, risk, and adapt each turn. Rise of Rome introduces you to the cities of Rome and Pompeii, each with its own strengths.
Rise of Rome can be played solo, co-op, or head-to-head. It's a stand alone game for 1-2 players but with the original game in hand, you are able to unlock 2 v 2 and 4-player free for all modes! If you want to read up on our original game, check out a few of these AWESOME reviews below!

But enough about our original KS project!...Let's get into Rise of Rome!
Let’s bring you up to speed on what’s happening…The Lost Cities responded to Rome’s challenge and are already winning over the crowd with their foreign fighting styles and tactics. What began as a way of studying these people’s battle strategies, now has the Empire on the verge of losing control of their very own creation…the Arena and its audience.
The Empire has had enough and has decided it’s time to show the crowd what true born and bred gladiators can do on the sands of the Colosseum. They assemble their elite from Pompeii and from Rome, deadly gladiators mixed with legendary crowd favorites who have won their freedom. The Empire has vowed - the crowd will be theirs once again!
For those who have played The Lost Cities, this part won't be anything new. Choose a City to represent, deploy gladiators, use tactics, control the arena, win the crowd, win the game. You control the gladiators and your champion in combat, you choose when to play your tactics, and you choose the way to victory.
Each player has a few separate phases to play their turns out. In a single turn a player will...
All gladiator and tactic chips are kept in a small bag to be drawn throughout the game. You will always have access to 4 chips to serve as your "playable hand" for each turn.
Deploy Gladiators, Play Tactics
Your gladiators are the core of this game. Each type of gladiator has a different role in battle. Defenders are great at taking hits, Attackers are you primary offensive unit, Archers attack quickly and from a distance, and your Tacticians move the most freely and look for weaknesses to exploit. Some gladiators carry unique skills mastered only by that specific city. You can also play tactics. Tactics may benefit you OR harm your opponent. But you have only 4 so timing is critical. In many cases, a well-played tactic can spell disaster for your opponent.
All of your gladiators will now have a chance to move into a good position. Depending on your play style, you may choose to rush your opponent's Champion, form a defense, or single out a specific unit you know could be trouble down the road, your options are many.
After your gladiators have moved into position, your attack phase begins. Who, what order, and how you attack can make a big difference. Once you have completed your attack phase, it is your opponent's turn.
The turn cycle will continue until a champion has fallen.
Players will be able to challenge one another in a heads up game. Two teams; One winner.
We also have an exciting option of solo play. It's your team against a Titan! It will have powerful stats and a card with variables based on its rolls and your actions. We have incorporated a unique and exciting way of allowing 'the arena' control these Titans, so hopeful you are up to the challenge!
There is yet another way to play, Co-op versus the Titan(s). What better way to fight than with allies at your side? However, the Titans scale in difficulty so you will have to work together seamlessly to best them.
For original Hoplomachus owners: 4vB, 1v1v1v1, 2v2
4-players mode is now possible! There are now 5 cities total and all cities can be used in all Arenas. Face of 2-player vs 2-player or go for the glory and be the last man standing in a free-for-all bout!

We take reviews of our game very seriously. You will find that at the core of any good reviewer, the same philosophy presides: To offer an unbiased perspective of their personal, hands-on experience with a game, so others can make informed decisions about it. Our experience with each of these reviewers revealed the same results: Good people - generous with their time, frank with their comments, and skillful in their craft of reviewing.
Adam and I decided to have some fun with the 7 reviewers who were kind enough to give a look at our Hoplomachus series. We developed 7 playable (and actually quite tactical) chips in the likenesses of each of our reviewers to pay homage to their efforts, not just with our game, but with the many other designers who are just starting out on this journey.
We are making these 7 chips available to each of you as an add-on pledge. These 7 reviewers did not ask for this - they are seeing this for the first time right now. Adam and I tried to think of the highest complement we could pay them and designing game chips in their likenesses was it.
We hope you will consider backing this level and also offering up a thanks to the reviewers these chips represent! We left specific names off so you could have fun guessing who's who (not that it's that hard)!

Finally, here is our complete details on this level in the form of an update to our current backers! FULL DETAILS
* NOTE: If you want to add Hoplomachus: The Lost Cities to this pledge level, please see our FAQ page for instructions!
Adam and I just want to say thanks! Whether you've pledged something for RoR, supported our first project, or if you are just looking this over! We are honored! So much of our success for The Lost Cities came because of people taking the time to understand what a cool game we have here and then they shared that info with their friends and family.
If you like our game, please donate and share our project with anyone you can think of, let's make sure we hit this one together!
Again, a special thanks goes out to our team of playtesters, the countless others that filled that role as well, and all of you who bounced ideas with us time and time again. We wouldn't be where we are right now without you!
Last, but not least, we promise to kick forward (www.kickingitforward.org) 5% of our funding right back into other awesome KS projects. We can't wait to see what new games and mechanics come from others within the Kickstarter community.
Please check out our links below for more information!!!
COVER ART ACKNOWLEDGMENT!!!Just wanted to offer up a public thank you to Christopher Adajar who allowed us to use his AMAZING artwork/rendering for our cover and box art. The amount of time and effort put into this one piece must have been incredible and it shows! Thank you Christopher for your generosity in allowing its use in Hoplomachus: Rise of Rome.
Risks and challenges
Risks for this round would easily be to maintain the chip quality we had for Hoplomachus without all the work Adam and I had to put in once the games arrived in the states to make sure we were sending out perfect games.
We have discussed sending one of us over to review the process in person (China) to make sure we are doing it as cost effective as possible and with the least about of QC issues. Adam and I should be able to receive the games and ship them out. That's the challenge that lies ahead and we have a good plan going forward so we are excited to get things underway!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
