Endless game titles spill from the Kallax shelves lining the walls, yet the gaming table remains empty. Tensions rise as your gaming group argues the merits of the games each want to play.
Your more "assertive" gamers make convincing cases for their selection, while your passive-aggressive gamers know exactly what they want to play but would rather not stir the pot. As seconds turn into minutes, the mounting frustration is only made worse by the realization that half the refreshments are already gone with still no game decided on.
Game to pick a Game (GTPAG) is a light-hearted solution to an all-too-real issue plaguing more and more gaming groups and families every year. It is also a slight nod to our poker roots and the "chip and a chair" mentality when it comes to giving everyone at the table a voice and a fair shot.
GTPAG will have 2 distinctly separate theme options for backers, both with 4 unique characters and traits. After the campaign is over, backers will be able to select their preferred theme...or buy them both for even more character options (all characters can be used with one another).
GTPAG: Orc Council
It's well known in fantasy circles that orcs have faced a dilemma for centuries, a conflict that has left countless hordes battered and bloodied on the field of battle. Now, the Orc Council has come together to settle this dispute in a more diplomatic fashion. You are one of four renowned orc generals, attempting to rally the horde in support of your preferred brand of tabletop entertainment. This is it. The summit is finally happening. This is your opportunity to at long last settle on a game for your clan and end years and years of bloodshed. Don't mess this up!
GTPAG: The Gateway Edition
Board games have long been seen as entrances into innumerable alternate universes. Fantasy worlds, European fields, the vast darkness of space, even the pantheons of world history are at your fingertips.
GTPAG: The Gateway Edition introduces you to the intersection of the tabletop universe, the access point by which these amazing worlds are reached. Choose a character archetype from a number of popular board game genres and go head-to-head with others in an attempt to convince them your world is the one to visit!
Both GTPAG versions contain four characters, each with their own set of 3 Bid chips, 1 Trait chip, 1 Character/Reference chip, and 1 Character Card. Gameplay for both versions is the same except for each character's unique Trait. As mentioned earlier, the two boxes are fully compatible with one another should your game group have more than 4 people at the table.
Each player chooses a Character (5 chips of one color). Every game is played with 3 Bid
chips and 1 Trait chip.
Gameplay: Each Character will take turns to Nominate and consequently Bid on the nominated games. Once all Characters have played all 4 of their chips, they will flip the chips played on their nomination and Tally (add) the points of all the Bid chips. The Nomination with the highest Score (numerical value) wins. All players must agree to play the winning game!
Character: This chip serves as a reference and a cover chip for your unplayed stack of chips.
Bid: Each Character has 3 Bid chips, which are the same for all Characters. Bids are used to add or subtract a value to a Nomination. They can even Invert (change a value from positive to negative or vise versa) the Tally.
Trait: Each Character has 1 Trait chip which is unique to them. Traits can be anything from additional Bid chip, a way to manipulate bids, and everything in between.
Nomination: Character with the lowest tolerance of arguing (first person to elect to play Game to Pick a Game) starts the Nominations. Each Character, in counter-clockwise order, either nominates a board game (place game next to you), or will pass.
Bidding: The last Character to nominate a game begins the first of four Bidding rounds, proceeding in clockwise order. On their turn, each Character must play one chip. Bid chips are played face-down near a Nomination they wish to bid on, while Traits may have special instructions to follow and are resolved immediately.
After each round of bidding (each Character has had a turn) Characters will tally the face-up point total of each Nomination (add numbers for Bid chips first, then resolve Inverts). Character with Nomination that has the highest Score begins the next round of Bidding. In the event of a tie, tied Character that had the most recent turn goes first, continuing in clockwise order. Any time a Character has no chips to play, their turn is skipped (Characters MUST play at least one chip on their turn, if able). Bidding rounds end when all Bid chips and Traits have been played.
When all the Bidding rounds are completed, flip each Bid chip left in the Nomination area and tally the chips together to get a Score. Only Characters who opted to pass in the Nomination round may participate in the Boosting round, if any. Starting with the Character who played the most recent chip (and has no Nomination), a Boost of +2 to the Tallying of a Nomination, in counter-clockwise order.
Tallying the Bids:
Each Nomination begins at 0. All chips that are assigned to a Nomination contributes to the Score. When Tallying the Bids, always add all Values (-1, +2, +2), then apply Inverts (+/-), and finally add Boosts to reach a final Score.
Once the Score for each Nomination is tallied, the Nomination with the highest numerical value wins. In the event of a tie, players will gather up their chips, remove all Nominations except the tied, and play a single round of Bidding starting with the Character who played the last chip. This round can only use a Bidding chip. After the round, Tally the Bids again (repeat until a winner is crowned), and declare a winner.
We've successfully fulfilled five (with a sixth set to start fulfilling this month) Kickstarter projects, and continue to streamline and improve our fulfillment process with each one. See below for details on how your game will be shipped and delivered depending on your location. Note that for Game to Pick a Game, we have tried to use a generous timeline beyond what we believe to be necessary to fulfill the project. However, with games using as many custom components as we use, know that there is always the potential for delays. In such instances we will be quick to update backers with any and all information we have.
USA: Every US order will ship directly from our warehouse in Minnesota, USA. We ship using either USPS or UPS (packages arrrive in 4 days or fewer), depending on your distance from our headquarters. We pack every game with care and accuracy, and have a full time staff to get Kickstarters fulfilled as fast as we possibly can.
Canada: Canadian shipping will be handled by Starlit Citadel in Canada. This ensures Canadians will not have to wait until the end of shipping to receive orders, and means orders are received without VAT or customs fees.
EU: Backers within the EU will receive their order shipped from a partner within the EU, meaning no VAT or customs fees are charged to the customer. Our previous campaign, Too Many Bones: Undertow is being fulfilled by Gamesquest in the UK. However, should Undertow not be fulfilled in a manner we find satisfactory, note that we may switch fulfillment partners. Should we make the switch, backers will not be charged any additional shipping fees.
World (Outside of Europe and Canada): Fulfillment of World Pledges will be based on weight. In order to reduce shipping cost of GTPAG, anything 4 lbs or fewer will be shipped untracked from our fulfillment partner in Europe (currently Gamesquest, but see EU section for details on how this could change). Any order above 4 lbs will incur a noticeable increase in shipping (handled in Pledge Manager) but will also be upgraded to DHL 1-3 Day Express Shipping and ship from CTG headquarters in Minnesota, USA instead of from within the EU. *2x GTPAG is 4lbs.- Any additional items will push your order over the 4 lb threshold and increase shipping costs/upgrade your order to DHL 1-3 Day Express Shipping.
