This campaign is a relaunch of our original Kickstarter from November 6 of this year. During the first nine days of that campaign we had 104 fantastic individuals back our campaign. This raised approximately $5,000 CAD. Our goal was $20,000 and based on our research and supported by Kicktraq it appeared we would not meet that funding goal.
So how can we offer the same game - along with new goodies like a print 'n play - for one quarter of the original amount? There are a several factors at play. Here are the two big ones.
First, and most importantly, is our willingness to change the type of project this is for us, from a business proposition to a passion project. In other words we chose to run the relaunch as a potential revenue-neutral campaign.
Second, when setting up the relaunch we had data from the first canceled campaign that wasn't available to us when setting up the first one (because the data didn't exist yet). On the second go-round we effectively knew what the initial response would be from our grassroots supporters and the Kickstarter community. We took that information, applied it to different possible campaign targets for the second campaign, and determined that a $5,000 campaign goal would position us to exceed that campaign goal easily within the first few days. This has been borne out - we are now at $6,200 (as of time of writing this) after less than 24 hours.
Regardless of the goal, our commitment remains the same as the first campaign: to deliver the best quality game possible to you!
