FINAL 24 HOURS! ENDS AT MIDNIGHT EST!
That's right! OTHER: Her Loving Embrace will be heading to the Nintendo Switch!
Our project has been fully-funded! That's awesome! But wait, there's more, we still have our Weekly Challenges going on as well as some cool Stretch Goals we're hoping to achieve. Check them both out lower on the page.

OTHER: Her Loving Embrace is a role-playing game with a twist - while the battle are turn-based, you directly control your characters in a platforming arena.
The whimsical world of OTHER is rich and complex; full of alluring artifacts, perplexing puzzles, and silly side-quests. You’ll encounter enemies of all shapes and sizes in a unique battle system that combines the best of turn-based strategy and stylish platforming action.
Exploring the world will reveal many new magical abilities! Use them to solve puzzles, overcome obstacles, and discover hidden paths in places old and new...
Any abilities you discover along the way can be used both in and out of battle! Take down enemies in creative and complex ways.
Join Gershom and his “mentor”, the self-proclaimed Wizard, as they journey across a daunting world brimming with intrigue and danger. Uncover the secrets of a secluded town besieged by the supernatural in this thrilling, character-driven adventure!
We have some stretch goals planned for the game too! Now that we've met our goal, we have some ideas on how to make the game even better!
Who doesn't love minigames? If we reach this goal, we'll expand existing minigames and add some new ones too! More card games to play, more varieties of fish, and new content like roulette tables and hockey!
Brush up on your platforming skills! If we reach this goal, we'll implement a variety of platforming challenges sprinkled throughout the world. If you're able to clear one, you'll get a reward! They can have many different clear conditions: breaking a set of targets, reaching a goal under a time limit, or simply staying alive!
Take a look behind the scenes! If this goal is reached, we'll create a digital artbook showing off concept sketches, early designs, backgrounds, and even how the sprites were created. It'll be interspersed with commentary about the game's development and how certain concepts and ideas were refined over time. This is something you won't want to miss!
Get ready for battle! If we reach this goal, we'll add multiple boss rush challenges to the game! Take on gauntlets of bosses from the game in fresh and exciting ways! Legend has it that a powerful secret lies at the end, only for those worth enough to reach it...
Practice makes perfect! If this goal is reached, we'll add an interactive bestiary to the game! With every spirit you encounter, a chapter will be revealed in an enchanted book. You can learn more about each spirit's purpose and history, as well as practice fighting against them!
Secrets abound! If we reach this goal, we'll add a hidden side chapter filled with secret content! We really enjoy it when games have optional stuff hidden away like this, and we think it'd be a great fit for OTHER. If the goal is met, we'll be able to expand a side area into something much bigger, and much more sinister...
Looking to mix things up? If this goal is reached, we'll add alternate gameplay modes to the game! How about a hard mode that really switches things up instead of just bumping up stats? What about a unique style-switching mode that blends the characters together? We've got some great ideas to bump up the replayability of the game, and we'd love to make them happen!
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble! If we reach this goal, we'll add a potion creation system to the game! Search the land to find components and ingredients! You can use them in a variety of different ways to cook up some helpful potions with all sorts of effects! Maybe you need your turns to last longer in battle? Or a permanent stat boost? The possibilities are (almost) endless!
Even more secrets abound! If this goal is reached, we'll add a second hidden side chapter filled with even more secret content! We'll take a cut area from early development, and bring it back in a new and terrifying way. You'll be surprised at just how deep evil can lurk...
Chestertown is in big trouble!
Supernatural occurrences and manifestations have begun to pop up all over the great kingdom of Golden!
While initially viewed as little more than nuisances, these spirits have become increasingly malevolent around the humble village of Chestertown, terrorizing it to a standstill. With Chestertown’s way of life nearly dismantled, the townsfolk are desperate for anyone, or anything, that could save them…
Gershom, a servant for the Duchess of Chestertown, is a cheerful, energetic kid with a growing discontent for his way of life.
After getting into trouble, he finds himself investigating the mystery of the spirits alongside a mysterious young man, who (despite barely having any magical power) insists on being referred to as a “wizard”. Together, the unlikely duo journey deep into the mysterious history of Chestertown, and end up part of something bigger than they could have ever imagined…
Encounter many more characters on your journey! You'll meet all sorts of folks: some friendly, some... not as friendly.
OTHER’s gameplay is inspired by RPGs and action games of yesteryear. Here’s just a small sample of all there is to do!
You’ll explore a massive, handcrafted world, solving puzzles and discovering all sorts of upgrades and equipment.
- Learn new magic spells to open new locations!
- Chat with a colorful cast of characters!
- Go fishing!
- Uncover the kingdom’s mysterious history!
- Play some card games around a cozy campfire!
OTHER’s exploration and overworld is inspired by action-adventure games such as the Legend of Zelda series, and other titles such as Environmental Station Alpha and Anodyne. There’s lots of small villages, dangerous forests, and gloomy caves to search for gear, battles, and friendly faces. There’s secrets around every corner, so leave no stone unturned! Players won’t go unrewarded for their diligence.
You’ll get into action-packed battles, combining turn-based strategy with real-time action.
- Master an addicting, frantic battle system!
- Use your spells to wreak havoc in creative ways!
- Discover SUPER MOVES to unleash on your enemies!
- Aim for high style rankings to boost your rewards!
- Equip magic trinkets to boost your stats!
Overall, OTHER’s combat is very much inspired by the Devil May Cry series, traditional fighting games, and other favorites like Super Smash Bros. Melee. OTHER’s design philosophy takes the “low skill floor, high skill ceiling” approach, so players dedicated to learning the ins-and-outs of the combat system will be greatly rewarded. (If you’ve ever craved a turn-based RPG where you can wavedash, you might like OTHER.)

As part of our Kickstarter campaign, we've decided to do something special by holding Weekly Challenges through our Twitter account. Weekly Challenges are fun little week long challenges where you can participate and help our campaign in ways other than backing. We will update them here and post more about them on Twitter as well as our Discord. There's a lot of good reasons you should participate and we hope you do!
Week 1 - 9/30-10/6 - Reaction Image Redraw - Give us your best (or worst) reaction/stock image redraws. Post them on Twitter and tag us or post them in our dedicated weekly challenge channel on our Discord but we want to see what deep-fried nightmares await.
Week 2 - 10/7-10/13 - What's Under the Wizard's Mask? - Have you ever wondered what's under the Wizard's mask? What's he hiding under there? An ugly scar? An extra eyeball? An extra fist? That last one would explain a lot of things but I digress, use our template posted above and fill in what you think lies under the Wizard's mask. You don't HAVE to use the template, but it is highly suggested. Post them on Twitter and tag us or post them in our dedicated weekly challenge channel on our Discord but we want to see just what monsters lurk behind that mask.
Week 3 - 10/14-10/20 - Design an Enemy! - Got a really cool idea for an enemy? We'd love to see! Send us your enemy designs that you think would fit in the world of OTHER. When entering, you don't have to do pixel art at all, or stick to a specific sprite palette. You don't even have to have a lot of artistic skill- if you have a clear design and a great idea behind your submission, we'd love to see it. You can even include notes on attack patterns and such. Think it out. As usual, post them on Twitter and tag us, or post them in our dedicated weekly challenge channel on our Discord!
This is open to everyone, and the winner will work with the team to have their ideas in the final version of the game. As such, if you win, there are certain rules and conditions before allowing it in the final version of the game. If you have questions, email us. The biggest condition is that your submission must be an original idea made specifically for this game, and that you will allow us to use this idea in the final version of the game.
Week 4 - 10/21-10/27 - Song and Story! - Have you been digging the soundtrack? Interested in the world and characters of OTHER? This contest is just for you! This time, we'll be running TWO challenges- one for music, and one for writing!
You can arrange your favorite song from the demo! Make some cool remixes that will knock our socks off. We'd love to hear your take on the sounds of OTHER. Or, write a short story about the world of OTHER and its characters. What's Gershom's life in Chestertown like? How did the Wizard get his mask? What's Ruby's deal? What's Barbaribro Jr.'s favorite food?! You can speculate on where the story will go next, too!
As usual, post your stuff on Twitter and tag us, or in our dedicated weekly challenge channel on our Discord!
Week 5 - 10/28-11/1 - Creative Free-for-All! - This is it! This is the last weekly challenge so now is the time to go all out! You can enter anything you want as long as you created it and it has to do with OTHER: Her Loving Embrace. Make some good ol' fashioned fan art, make a hilarious meme, write some poetry, do a video review, anything! Hey, with Halloween coming up, you could even enter that sweet Wizard costume you've been working on. This is your time to shine! Impress us. We will choose the top three winners, just post your creation on Twitter and tag us, or in our dedicated weekly challenge channel on our Discord! THIS IS IT! GIVE IT YOUR ALL.
The audio design of OTHER also takes inspiration from old home computers and consoles. The audio and sound effects generally aim to stay within the limitations of the YM2612/OPN2 chip, using its characteristic FM synthesis to generate complex, evocative sounds. Basic waveforms are also used, such as square, sawtooth, etc.
Expect rousing tunes that make you want to explore a mysterious world and invoke a thirst for some good, old-fashioned adventure! If this sounds up your alley, check our the demo's Bandcamp page if you want to hear more.
Quincy Pringle - Born with a 68000 for a heart and a 2612 for a brain. The primary workhorse behind the game, doing most of the coding, music, writing, and general development of of OTHER. Last spotted stealing a hatchback and driving “north”, whatever that means. A quintessential Florida Man.
Favorite games: Castlevania Bloodlines, Doom 1, Rocket Knight Adventures, Superstar Saga
Kelly Kirsch - SVA animation graduate, currently excelling in drawing things on the margins of her notebook. Loves nature, Quincy, and making cute things. She’s behind the concept art and art direction of OTHER.

“Harry” - Apple-tree based internet-based life-form that started tinkering around with pixel art when he first grew from a seed. He’ll be handling much of the design, art, and animations in OTHER.

To our friends and family, we can't thank you enough.
Risks and challenges
Any project carries some form of risk. Making games is a long, complicated endeavor, and many don’t leave the planning stages.
We’ve attempted to offset some of the inherent risk by spending a considerable amount of time in pre-production, and by developing our demo. Since the game is already considerably far along in development, many of the most difficult parts are already over with. Hopefully, the demo serves as sufficient proof that we are devoted to development.
We take our game and campaign very seriously! We’ve been in touch with our fans over the past year, openly communicating throughout the development process. We value our supporters: transparency and honesty is our highest priority when engaging with all of you. We are easy to reach and happy to help!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
