About

We are chikun, an independent group of eight video game developers from Newcastle, Australia.

Broken Sands is our newest idea and we would like your help to create it.

The Sands of Time have been stolen! An army of clones is attacking! Can anyone save the past, present and future?

Someone has taken the Sands of Time and is using them to send clones to take over all times. Many have tried to stop them, but no-one else could. It’s all up to you. Can you take out all of the clones, take back all the sands, and stop this great evil once and for all?

Broken Sands is a fast-paced, neon-styled bullet hell platformer. Your aim is to reach the end of the level as fast as possible, whilst taking as little damage as possible. Time manipulation is a major game mechanic which allows you to slow down time for yourself, your enemies and their bullets.

You have no weapons, but can destroy enemies by switching on machinery in the environment (eg. Swinging blades, laser beams, trapdoors, etc.). It will be possible to complete the game without killing a single enemy.

Major inspirations for this game include Super Meat Boy, Mark of the Ninja, and VVVVVV.

We will support Windows, Mac OSX, Ubuntu, and OUYA on launch. If we reach the $4000 stretch goal, we will also support Android, iOS, and Windows Phone devices.

Risks and challenges

We are both experienced game developers and we believe that we can complete Broken Sands by January 2015, but if we reach our stretch goals (especially multiplayer mode and mobile ports), we may face delays until at most March 2015. We are confident in the January 2015 release date, however.

We have researched services for producing the postcards, t-shirts, and posters. We cannot foresee any risk in delivering those. The digital art book and soundtrack will also be easy to produce and deliver.

If any problems arise, we will address them here, and work tirelessly to correct them. We will stay in constant communication with all backers to inform you about production delays and other potential mishaps.
