Chicano Batman needs your help to press our new EP, Joven Navegante, as a 10” vinyl record!
you for visiting our Kickstarter!
For those of you who are not familiar
with Chicano Batman please allow us to introduce ourselves. We are a
four-piece band out of Los Angeles inspired by 60’s Brazillian Tropicalia,
early 70’s (Latin) american soul, Cumbias and other roots music that
soaks itself in psychedelia. Oh and yes, we uniform our live act in
ruffled tuxedo shirts and use an ironing board as a keyboard stand.
released our debut album back in 2010 and with the help of our good
friend Joe Franko, an Oakland-based DJ and creator of the widely
popular Super Sonido-The Latin American Cultural Reverb blog, we
were able to release our album on vinyl through his independent label
Unicornio Records, for free! Yes, he was really that generous and our
vinyl was a hit! It captured the warmth and essence of our
musical aesthetic and it's truly amazing how far it has traveled...It made its' way to Brazil, Japan, Australia, Mexico, and a friend even
spotted one in an Amsterdam record store!
the two years that followed we dove deeper into our musical roots in
order to preserve and grow our sound. Late last year we finally
re-constructed our studio (did I mention we are an independent band?)
and recorded a new 4-song Ep. We are absolutely thrilled with the
results especially with the soulful mastering touches done by Dave
Cooley (J-Dilla, Madlib, Betty Davis) at Elysian Masters. The music is a
tight, funky, and smooth wave of sound full of creative depth and
spiritual intensity. It is a true
document of our existence and is a definite progression in the band’s
musicianship and musical aesthetic. This is our bold step into the
already cut out as many costs as we could by combining our DIY talents. We
recorded the music at the house of our drummer Gabriel Villa, had the
engineering and mixing done by our bassist Eduardo Arenas, and had the
entire Ep artwork done by our guitarist/vocalist Bardo Martinez. That's
the good news! The bad news is that we used our band's preexisting funds to cover our recording expenses and professionally press copies
of the CD...
But there is still hope, and this
is where you come in!
We are asking for your generous contribution so
that we can press our Ep on wax, the format that delivers the true
essence of Chicano Batman. On vinyl not only do you get to experience
our artwork but you hear a superior sound quality of our actual
performance which was captured in live takes…and if you’ve ever
experienced our live show, you know we hold nothing back!
believe in preserving vinyl culture and with your help we can achieve
that goal and keep our music analog. We are looking to raise $4,500 to
cover expenses of producing 1000 copies of our new Ep Joven Navegante
and covering travel expenses to perform as far East as our gas money can
take us. So please, take time to look over your Kickstarter funding
options and remember, even with a $5 minimum donation, we all go home
We thank you for all of your support,
