An open ended App assisted board game. There are no limits to the game types you will be able to craft or just enjoy playing.
Meet Chestego's pieces, board and basic rules.
The new pawns hide their identity and can be placed in any strategic location within their starting area when setting up the board. There are also slightly new movements and mechanics for all the standard chess pieces. There are two new pieces called Guards. Many pieces have new names and new mechanics.
Meet Edge.Line's pieces and basic rules
On the backs of the Chestego board lies a completely different game for up to 6 players. Players fight to claim as many points by capturing a Line, Edge or dot with a Cluster piece. Completing a Line , Edgeloop or Dot in game grants a bonus extra point or points. For Lines & Dots you would get 1 extra point. For a completed Line in game over 9 in length you will get 4 points. For an Edgeloop you would get 2 points or 4 with a Tower. Points will all be neatly kept in The App. At the end you will also get uncompleted points for each thing.
Meet Jump's pieces, board and basic rules
When you don't want to think as much or don't have time for Chestego, play a checkers variation.
Meet Hostage's pieces, board and basic rules
Remove the King, Queen and 2 Fighters. Move the Guards into the old King and Queen spaces. Add the 3 Traps and Hostage to the board. Arrange the two rows any way you would like. All pieces move per Chestego rules. The Hostage and Traps cannot move. Have fun trying to save the Hostage :) The Ranger can disable traps but must call Disable before attacking a Trap.
Meet War's pieces, board and basic rules
Ready to try an even further expanded gaming experience? Op for the War edition and enjoy the 10x10 battle board along with expanding Edge.Line to up to 8 players (you will need a big table to play on). The three Traps from Hostage are also be used in this mode. There is also two new Spearman pieces in front of the King and Queen. The Guards are also promoted to the sides of the King and Queen. If you want to add War to a Home Edition there will be a $20 add-on. Message me with your color combination. It will be too much to add all add-ons in the rewards section. They will be available to order from the website when that goes live.
Other game modes under development
I still need to play test and develop all the rules but this is a glimpse into the possibilities. The first combines some Jumps and some Chestego pieces in a Criss-Cross battle while the other traps a King Surrounded by enemies. All the rules will be easily accessed via the app.
Meet Mid. The board is changed to 4x10. All the fighters are removed except the rangers and the remaining Chestego pieces are set in this new configuration. It will be bloody and it will be fast :)
Meet the cardboard box
Whats in the cardboard box?
Well another box naturally ( as long as you didn't op for the Base Edition which doesn't include a box/border) . Shown in Fall colors of Copper, White and Orange :) There will only be a limited run in these colors. The box also is a bit of a puzzle and also becomes the border for the standard Chestego & Jumps games.
Meet the Rewards
Here are the REAL rewards in all their glorious Colors and Stains. There will be a home and away color advantage that I am working on to add a little colorful twist :) Below is just a sample of the colors that the full game will be made with. The base edition will now include a simple border. I will post pictures tomorrow.
Yup you can do this too :)
I wanted to be the 1st to do it :). You get 84 glorious domino-like squares to do this.
And remember this game ? :)
Dont judge my poor memory skills. I actually dislike this game but thought it was funny.
Some new colors.
I was getting a headache from the other stains I was using and found a zero VOC alternative. The colors are amazing and they soak into the Wood PLA better that the silky stuff. It is so hard to take a picture which looks as good as real life. I like the distressed look but I figure not everyone does.
I have extensive knowledge in Unreal Engine and knew that I could use that knowledge to make a companion App for the board game. The app keeps score, has timers and the rules for each game mode. There will also be a timer tied to your song playlist. When the song is up you loose your turn. I will be adding a part where you can design your own board shape and add your own rules. Also, I want to accumulate historic and regional rules of games that will work with the included pieces. I have not started that part yet but I hope to reach my goals and work full time to make that happen quickly. I want people to play the game modes I have created and can't wait to see the crazy modes that other people will make. You will always be able to play your game modes locally with friends but if you would like to share it with everyone, there will be a submittal area. Others will be able to try and vote on your game mode and ,if you get enough likes, it will be added to the main game modes. I want to also add a tracking part of the app which will show how many people are playing each mode. In the not too distant future I want to have the games playable in app with AI and online multiplayer. That is not going to be until I am shipping board games with the companion app though. There will be early access to the physical pieces but the app will take a month or two to fully develop and get approved for Android and Apple.
It started with my love for Chess and Stratego. I thought how cool would it be if the two games were combined but in a very classic minimalist way. I love Stratego but I am not crazy about the cardboard playing board and just the overall look of the game. I love the beauty of chess boards and the fact that you can leave it sitting on a coffee table. So I started designing my idea in Sketchup. The new chess/stratego board would be 8x10 instead of an 8x8 chess board, but then I starting thinking why glue the board together. If the board pieces were free, you could change the board to almost anything. Take out the extra two rows and play regular chess or change the whole board around. There would be no limit to what could be done. As a bonus, my mom does not know how to play chess but loves checkers as many people do so I did a checkers variation too. The extra row on each side would have a back row of already kinged checkers and I call the game Jumps. Also, I added a border which would lock the pieces in and turn into a box. I starting thinking about the wasted back sides of the pieces and to another game I love, Carcassonne. Again, I love the game but it sits in a box on my shelf. It doesn't have coffee table charm. So I designed EdgeLine for the backs of the Chestego board pieces. Its a simplified version (no farms) with some new mechanics. I added an anti son in-law mechanic to try to deter him from always joining/steeling my big castles :) Its working but he still tries to make some things un-finishable. If you play the game you know what I mean. I added 4 extra pieces for just that reason. Its definitely a blast for up to 6 players. Then while designing my Kickstarter campaign I thought about an add-on. Two more rows and a bunch more pieces and War was born. It combines some of the Hostage game mode pieces with the standard Chestego pieces. There will also be a Double Board edition for more game length in Edge.Line and an expanded Chestego game mode.
I love to play and create games and hope that my products will bring joy to tons of people! I have already had fun with my friends and family and hope you will have similar experiences. All pieces subject to constant improvements. Don't be surprised to have something better than what is shown in your box :)
Risks and challenges
I am a bit scared of the manufacturing part only because I am not experienced yet in it. I want to be able to deliver an amazing gaming experience in every box at an affordable price. If I can not find a US manufacturer with reasonable prices, I will be doing it myself. If I reach my goals I will be handling the manufacturing anyways. I want to be in complete control of the quality. Also, I will be able to make improvements constantly or add new content whenever I want. So the challenge may really just be a door I need to get thru.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
