Here's our recommended strategy for storing your caddies:
- Caddies containing seasonings used nearly every time you cook should stay out on the counter, as handy as can be.
- Caddies containing cuisine-specific seasonings should be stored in easy to reach locations: on the counter, under cabinets, in a top drawer or an eye-level shelf in a cupboard.
- Bulk and rarely used seasonings don’t need to go in Chef Caddy units and can be stored out of the way in a dry, cool place.
The complete label set comes with:
- 15 cuisine groups, each with four spice cap labels and seasoning list
- 60 total spice cap labels covering the 60 most common spices
- 12 bottle collars for the most common oils, vinegars and non-perishable sauces
- 5 blank label sets to write your own variations (printable options available; see FAQ)

Why Chef Caddy?
While traditional spice racks assume your main goal is to stash bottles away, Chef Caddy believes your true aim is to make great tasting food as quickly and easily as possible. It’s a shift in thinking about spice storage that changes everything... for the better.
Consider how we season. It's not alphabetically or randomly. And rarely do we want just one spice. Most of the time we want a collection of spices that relate to the flavor profile of the cuisine we are making. Chef Caddy groups spices that go together, well, together.
Think about frequency. Some seasonings you use all the time while others can sit idle for months on end. And yet we often jumble them together in our cupboards and drawers as if we use them equally. Chef Caddy puts your go-to's front and center where they belong.
Let's talk about recipes. Current spice storage solutions offer no guidance about what goes with what, forcing us to turn to recipes for that information. A process that gets tedious to say the least. Chef Caddy puts information in your hands along with the spices.
Chef Caddy is designed with cooking in mind. It helps you get organized and prepared quickly, inspires you to season more adventurously, reduces hassle, increases confidence, and boosts flavor.
How to use Chef Caddy
Base Unit + Cuisine Caddy = Seasoning Station
Your Base Unit should contain the five basics: S,P, O, G, Oil
These five seasonings play across all cuisines worldwide. Together they form the foundation of flavor.
A Cuisine Caddy should contain the four key spices for the cuisine NOT INCLUDING salt, pepper, onion, garlic, oil, which are givens for every cuisine. The top of the Cuisine Caddy lists the rest of the flavor profile for that cuisine. These are usually perishable seasonings that don't normally go in a spice rack.
When it's time to cook, just decide the cuisine you're in the mood for, grab that Cuisine Caddy and connect it to your Base Unit. You now have the nine most important seasonings for your cuisine (five in the base unit + four in a cuisine caddy). Presto. And instant seasoning station with additional flavor suggestions printed right on top.
If you want to designate more than four spices to a given cuisine, use additional spice caddies and bottle caddies to expand your cuisine set.
How much easier will it be to make great tasting meals with all your seasonings at your fingertips?
Chef Caddy makes following recipes a snap because it gets you set up super quickly. But Chef Caddy really shines when you are cooking without recipes.
The grouped seasonings and extra information on top allow you to freestyle with confidence. Once you get the hang of cooking in general (something we will teach you very quickly with our included cooking courses), you won't need a recipe to tell you that a squeeze of lime would brighten up that Mexican dish. Just a quick reminder will do. (Sorry Alexa, sometimes a lo-fi solution is better than a talking speaker.)
What's the story behind Chef Caddy?
Hi! My name is Casey Moulton, known to some as The Kitchen Karate Guy. I'm a busy working dad, home cook and meal prep instructor. Pictured here with one of my assistants.
The story of Chef Caddy stretches back about 10 years to the time when I was first learning how to cook.
Every other Thursday I’d hold a dinner party at my place for six guests where I’d make a three course meal following recipes. Each time I took on a different world cuisine with an appetizer, entree and dessert. I billed myself as America’s Top Recipe Follower and over the course of a year I cooked my way around the world.
Over that time I learned a few things. One is that recipes are beyond tedious. I’d spend five hours making a meal that got scarfed down in 15 minutes.
The other thing I learned was that the same five seasonings showed up over and over. Salt, pepper, onion, garlic, and olive oil. I called these the Starting 5 and put them in a kit separated from the the rest of my seasonings.
Around that same time I got into meal prep as part of a health kick. I loved the concept of preparing all my healthy meals for the week on the weekend but I didn’t like spending my entire Sunday doing it. So I set a goal of making 15 completely different meals in 2 hours. It took me two years of Sundays to crack the code but once I'd done it I knew I'd developed a powerful system.
I dubbed the practice Kitchen Karate and offered to teach it out of test kitchen here in Los Angeles. More than a thousand students attended over the course of two years.
In the class I showed student how to meal prep their way around the world quickly and without recipes. All they needed was a Starting 5 kit and a cheat sheet of the dominant seasonings for each flavor profile, along with a willingness to cook by eye and feel (skills that are surprisingly easy to learn).
I showed them how to take a label maker to a spice rack and essentially turn it into the cheat sheet.
My students told me I should turn the concept into a product and go on Shark Tank! So I hired product designers to work with me on the idea.
Getting feedback from my students and manufacturing companies, we slowly, painstakingly iterated our way forward.
Until finally we had a design that checked all the boxes:
- Easy to clean
- Manufacturable for a reasonable price
- Unique (patent pending)
It’s been a long journey to this point with hundreds of hours of generous feedback from countless home cooks to smooth out every detail. Finally we are here on Kickstarter to raise the funds to get the tooling made and do the first production run.
We are so excited and grateful to you for helping bring this product to life. And who knows, one day you might see it on Shark Tank!
How does this whole Kickstarter thing work?
If this is your first time backing a Kickstarter project here's a quick primer:
1. You pledge a certain amount of money to help Chef Caddy get the funds needed to go into production. In exchange we give you the very first units created at the lowest prices. Essentially it's a way collect enough pre-orders to pay for the manufacturing costs.
2. After our Kickstarter ends in July we will send you a survey to sort out the shipping and collect any add-on orders.
3. The pledged funds become available to us a couple of weeks after the campaign ends and we use those funds to pay our manufacturer to make the product.
4. We run approvals and quality control until the units are ready ship. Our aim is to get Chef Caddy into your hands by mid December, just in time to use it for your holiday feasts!

Risks and challenges
We’ve partnered with a leading design team for Simple Human brand products. They have decades-long DFMR (Design for Manufacturing) expertise with the materials we are using. Our manufacturing partner has equally deep experience sourcing, manufacturing and assembling products like ours. While we have not ordered the tooling yet, we are confident that we have the right people in place to smooth out any hiccups as they arise.
Shipping & Tariffs:
We have selected Fulfillment by Amazon to deliver our rewards as they are the most reliable and cost effective partner for our product. (See our FAQ for more details). That said, the current trade war between the US & China is a wild card that may impact shipping costs and delivery times. We will do everything within our power to ensure our backers get the best rates and delivery times.
Our aim is to deliver rewards in time for the holidays but we will not ship anything less than a premium product. This is the main area where delays could occur. We will work tirelessly to keep the timeline on track and will keep you updated every step of the way.
This is our first Kickstarter campaign and we are 100% focused on making a success of it. Having backed several campaigns in the past, spoken with numerous successful creators, and researched best practices we are well aware that frequent and transparent communication is the key to ensuring our backers are happy from start to finish. We will be unfailing in our communications with you.
