I, like many others, am a sucker for time travel. It is my absolute favorite plot device and impossibility. This idea came to me as I was settling down to sleep, and I immediately jumped up to jot it down so it didn't get away from me.
How would a time traveler deal even with Days of the Week Underpants, say, if they were given a set by a friend who was unaware of their temporal pastime? When you have 3 Mondays in your week, what are you supposed to wear? The solution- Time Traveler's "Days of the Week" Undies, each designed with a different date, location or time, so that Time Travelers, their companions (or those of us who like to pretend we are temporal travelers in our spare time), can know what to wear and when.
Each set will be comprised of 7 pairs of white underwear with a time travel icon and 6 different iconic dates, one for each pair. For example:
Each set will also have a pair that reads "PRESENT" again with the time travel icon.
Although my design at this point only nods to two popular stories of time travel, I would be open to designing more at a later date, as well, using the same design set-up, based on feedback. I would also we more than happy to hear date suggestions for the Police Box design.
I want to make this concept a reality, and I hope that it will lead to other design opportunities in the future.
My cost estimates are based on quotes from local printing shops, actual product costs, and an estimate of shipping costs for an initial run of 100 of each panty set of 7 and 50 boxer sets of 7, plus the costs of reward creation and shipment. I have also researched uniform designs for panties sized small to 4x, and the same with boxers, because people of all sizes like awesome things like time travel, and I am most passionate about making sure that as many fans as possible can enjoy my designs.
Mock ups are available of the current designs:
Each will have a small image of the time travel device, and then a date under, like so:
Though the placement and fonts are subject to change for the sake of clarity. I will provide final designs as the project approaches fruition (in updates to backers).
Risks and challenges
I have created t-shirt designs in the past professionally, and have two people in my immediate family who were once screen printers, as well as friends, who have advised me, reminding me of situations and costs that I would not have otherwise considered (you can't screen print over seams, for instance).
My initial designs were much more colorful which sent costs soaring into the tens of thousands. Seeing how much I would be asking people to trust me, I decided to start the idea with less colors with the hopes that in the future, more colorful and detailed designs would be a natural progression.
As far as production:
I have already found sources for product (underwear GALORE!) that are reasonably priced and that reviews say are quality.
I've gotten two quotes from screen printers, both local, and out of state, finding their prices to be in close range.
I am familiar with shipping costs because of my various art sales, which has taught me how to ship most economically while assuring my customers get their purchases quickly.
I write and illustrate a humor blarg (http://cheeseblarg.blogspot.com) which has evidence of my follow through on projects, and the quality of my work.
Also, I watch a lot of time travel media and I love all things futuristic. That has to count for something!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
