About this project
A New Old Platformer
Hubert's Island Adventure: Mouse o' War is a singleplayer 2D platformer that I released for Windows earlier this year. It is centered around tight controls and solid physics, so more playing skill equals more success. It offers an adventure across Hubert's Island, collecting items and defeating bosses, and it also offers a recently added Survival mode in which you attempt to hold your own against endless waves of baddies.
However, something has always been missing from the experience. That something is playing together with your friends and family. To rectify this, I want to create a massive new update for the game, adding local cooperative multiplayer to the mix. Like all other updates to Hubert's Island Adventure, this will be freely available to those who already bought the original game. For more information on the original game, click ye upon this link!
Hubert's Island Adventure: Mouse o' War: Co-Op Edition
Implementing multiplayer entails several things:
1. Retooling the engine to allow for multiple players. This is a pretty important step!
2. Adding a new character, so each player can be a different character (there are currently 3 characters, and we want to support up to 4 players).
3. Adding a multiplayer version of both Adventure Mode and Survival Mode.
4. Tons of tweaking and scaling things to make everything more fun with multiple players.
5. Playtesting, playtesting, playtesting. And then we will probably run some tests.
How you know I can pull this off: The original game is already finished! You can play it right now by downloading the demo right here!
Please support this project and help us add more awesomeness to Hubert's Island Adventure!
Here is some gameplay from the original game:
And here is me rambling on about the recent 1.2 update:
Such a huge undertaking requires additional funding, and that's where you come in. Cheese and Bacon Games doesn't make a lot of money yet, so we're working for peanuts. The funding we receive through this Kickstarter campaign will be used to feed and clothe us, and I think we can all agree that not-naked developers is a win-win situation!
If we make a lot more money than we were expecting, it will go towards porting the game to other platforms, adding more content, and other stuff... ooo suspenseful!
We've got all sorts of fantastic rewards set up for those that pledge to this project. For a mere $10 you can get your own (digital) copy of the game when the update is finished. Like all of our games, there is no DRM whatsoever. The game is currently just for Windows, but by helping us meet our stretch goals you can enable us to port the game to other platforms (i.e. Linux and Mac).
Beyond the initial goal, we are setting several stretch goals. When one is met, we will add new features, platforms, or content to the game. Let's check them out:
$10,000 - Mac port
We will port the game to Mac, enabling almost anyone with a computer to play some Hubert's Island Adventure!
$15,000 - Linux port
We will port the game to Linux so more people can play!
$20,000 - Level editor
We will gussy up and release the game's level editor to the world, enabling everyone to whip up their own levels for the game!
$25,000 - More Survival levels
We will add several new levels to be played in Survival Mode. These are guaranteed to provide tons of frantic fun for everyone!
$30,000 - Video documentary/tour of development studio (i.e., our apartment)
We will take you on a whirlwind tour of Cheese and Bacon Games' headquarters, as well as give valuable commentary and insight into the making of the Co-Op Edition.
Beyond - Who knows?
If we hit the highest planned stretch goal and keep on going, we will come up with even more crazy ideas! That's right! We promise to come up with ideas for more goals. How can it get better than that?
Kevin Wells - Game Design/Programming/Graphics/Level Design/Music/Sound Effects
Kevin has been developing games for years on calculators, computers, toasters, and anywhere else a game might fit.
Aneissa Wells - Playtesting/Game Design/Writing Support/Idea Woman/All-Around Help
Aneissa is Kevin's wife, and the most critically important member of the Cheese and Bacon team. Without her, the whole crazy thing would come crashing down, and Kevin would probably forget to eat.
