Misprinted dice an unexpected hit
It turns out Whatz contracted another factory to make the dice for Hoard. Whatz rejected this factory's initial batch, which were done correctly, on quality grounds. Unfortunately no one caught the misprint in the second batch. Whatz has apologized and is taking full responsibility for the error. New dice have been ordered and should be on their way to distribution points by the end of this month. Mine will allow me to fulfil the outstanding backer orders from New Zealand and Australia. Then I'll be scrambling to swap out the dice and re-shrink Cheeky Parrot's commercial copies so that Hoard can still hit the Kiwi market in time for Christmas. Hit Point, our American distributor, and Even Toys and Games of Queensland Australia are prepared to do the same. Thankfully Whatz was willing to cover the additional cost of fixing these copies as well as engaging Send From China to send replacement dice to those who already have their game.
There's been a nice buzz building on social media, which has really helped keep my spirits up over the die debacle. Backers are also going onto BoardGameGeek to rate and comment on Hoard: thank you!
I suspect the bulk of our non-Australasian backers have now received their games. Although I didn't pay extra to have games tracked, October 9 was the day the last ones Send From China dispatched, so feel free to contact me if you haven't received yours by the first of November as they should take 7-20 days to arrive. If you notice any missing parts or damage to the box worse than small dings, please also get in touch with me. I do have a supply of extra parts and I can replace your entire game if the box is badly damaged, provided you submit photographic proof.
A few backers have requested a seventh player stand. I'm sorry I didn't think to include one--I guess I didn't want anyone to think the game could accommodate seven players. Anyway, if you're in North America, stands can be ordered from the Game Crafter while Europeans might wish to try Board Game Extras (in the UK).
I'll do another update when the new dice are on their way. Retailer backers, I will be sending a survey out to you later this week.
