Treasure or Terror?
You caught the glint of metal underneath the dirt and the damp, so you started digging. With a little effort, and one eye on any challengers to your claim, you held your prize.
An artifact of the Ancient Makers!
But now your wariness increases to an almost audible pitch, as you begin the most dangerous of all tasks — you examine its mysterious surfaces, studs, and touchplates. Your fellow rovers, wise to the ways of the Before Time, all begin to back up to a respectable distance, lest they be caught in any mishaps at your hands and your sweating fingertips. Now comes the time for both luck and determination. Can you unlock and master the secrets of this device of ancient imperishable power?
What's Between the Covers
Clocking in at over 56 pages and crammed with content, Check This Artifact contains 30 brand-new artifacts of the Ancient Makers, plus a brand-new godlike AI, all for use in your mutant crawling or other post-apocalyptic role playing game. Penned by the creator of Mutant Crawl Classics RPG and published by Mudpuppy Games, these powerful technological treasures are more than mere artifacts, because each item in this book is a plot hook and a potential mini-adventure in the making.
Check This Artifact presents artifacts for your players to attempt to track down, tame, and temper — including weapons, armor, robots, AIs, and those extra-special items that are the sole purview of far-future fiction. Just check out the contents page.
A Brand New AI Diety
Meet The OVERLORD! The OVERLORD is unusual among the potent and powerful AIs of the Ancient Makers in that it was originally conceived by them to function much like an AI Deity. Designed as a project to link active-duty military personnel into a gigantic hive intelligence via shunted quantum networks, The OVERLORD could be given complete command control over any theater of operations, including all AI-enhanced equipment and personnel. The OVERLORD was fully operational and active during the mysterious events immediately proceeding and during the Great Catastrophe.
Is your character savvy enough to serve The OVERLORD? Notably, The OVERLORD is the first AI Deity that accepts priests of any genotype. Has your mutant, mutated animal, or intelligent plant had a hankering to cast some science-spells like the big boys and girls? Then get yourself a pair of The Eyes of the Overlord (included in the book) and cast Serve AI. Includes rules for mediating the class changeover for non-human types.
Art and Design
Check This Artifact is a softcover book and large digest-sized at 6” x 9”, so you can stick it straight in your game bag with all your other stuff. Each and every entry in the book is illustrated by a team of veteran artists including Cory Shonuff Gelnett, Dan Smith, James V. West, and Jim Wampler. Check out these sample art pieces from the book!
How to Pledge for Multiple Copies
Need to pledge for multiple copies of Check This Artifact? Just select the pledge level for the SOFTCOVER + PDF and fill out the dollar amount in multiples of $15 (i.e. $30 for two copies, $45 for three copies, etc).
Backing for the limited edition hardcover and a softcover? Select the hardcover pledge level for $40 and in the dollar amount repeat the process outlined above by adding multiples of $15 for each softcover copy you want to get.
Simplicity, thy name is Media Mail. Each book will ship in a sturdy cardboard envelope via Media Mail. Per Kickstarter recommendations, shipping and handling costs ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE PLEDGE LEVELS. This is to protect everyone involved in case there is an unforeseen rate increase in postal costs between funding and final shipping. At the time of launch, shipping and handling is planned to be an economical $5 per book shipped. Backers pledging over $1 have the option of adding that $5 per book to an existing pledge level, but regardless all shipping charges will be billed after the kickstarter ends via Backerkit. Rest assured that we will do everything within our power to ship your books to you the cheapest and most economical way possible.
Any changes beyond our control to the expected shipping costs resulting from postal rate increases will be fully announced in updates if such a situation arises.
All shipping for this Kickstarter is to the USA ONLY, so please pledge accordingly. Current International shipping costs are so high that shipping outside the USA is not feasible for Mudpuppy Games at this time.

Risks and challenges
The final version of Check This Artifact has already been written, edited, and laid out. All stretch goal items are designed and ready for production. After the kickstarter funds, art orders will go out to our team of artists for inclusion in the book, and then everything goes off to the printers. Printing is being done locally by our regular printer, so the turn-around risks are minimal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
