So we've been posting updates through the email part of Kickstarter but I just had the thought that if any of you hadn't seen those, if they'd gone into your junk email box, well then you'd think that we haven't updated since we actually ran the campaign. I haven't gotten any irate messages suggesting such (& they'd be justifiably so) but I just wanted to make sure. Here is the latest update that I posted.
STATE OF THE DOC ADDRESS
(it's a little lengthy, my apologies)
Hello patient Backer family!
Charlie here w/ some exciting news. Here's where we're at w/ Circle the Wagen:
-The movie has been edited (by director Ryan Steven Green)
-The sound mix has been finished by the fantastic Bryant Arnett
-The colour correction will be finished by the end of next week! (being completed by the very talented Bobby Lam)
In the meantime, I have been locking down the legal aspects of all the WONDERFUL music we have in our film. Please check out these artists. You're going to fall in love w/ their music, just like we did:
-Poor Moon (http://www.subpop.com/artists/poor_moon) & Crystal Skulls (http://suicidesqueeze.bigcartel.com/product/crystal-skulls-outgoing-behavior) (both projects of Christian Wargo & other very talented musicians who play in Fleet Foxes as well as man other bands.
-Deep Sea Diver (http://thedeepseadiver.com/) (guitarist for Beck & The Shins, Jessica Dobson's project)
-Charles Bradley (http://thecharlesbradley.com/) (East coast soul singer off of Daptone Records)
-Yuuki Matthews (http://mynameisyuuki.tumblr.com/) solo work (bassist for The Shins)
-Dustbowl Revival (http://dustbowlrevival.com/) "a Venice, California-based collective that merges old school bluegrass, gospel, jug-band, swamp blues and the hot swing of the 1930’s to form a spicy roots cocktail."
-Alessandro Alessandroni (http://www.alessandroni.com/) (the world famous whistler from the Ennio Marricone soundtrack to The Good, The Bad & The Ugly) Can you BELIEVE we got him to whistle on our movie?! If you're a Sergio Leone/Ennio Marricone/spaghetti western fan, you'd understand how beside ourselves w/ joy we are to have Maestro on board.
-Original music by the wonderfully talented Seth Shafer (http://sethshafer.com/)
AND there are some bands that are VERY exciting that we haven't secured yet, so I don't want to let the cat out of the bag! But I'll let you know as soon as I do get them.
NOW, the thing you REALLY want to know: when are you all going to get your dern Kickstarter fulfillments & of course, your copies of the film? Here's the answer: For reasons that pertain to festival rules & delicate distribution courtesies, we must first have our North American premiere before we can send out copies of the film.
And, speaking of which, here is a, as of the time of this email, complete list of the film festivals we've submitted to: Austin, Cannes, Brooklyn, Melbourne International, Woodstock, Toronto Independent, CPH:DOX (Copenhagen), Seattle, AFI Silverdocs, Los Angeles, Edinburgh, Albuquerque Film & Media, Sheffield Doc/Fest, International Documentary Festival Amsterdam & MANY MORE TO COME.
We have no way of knowing which festivals we'll play, but we're very excited to find out! And as soon as we receive word of our FIRST acceptance, I will write the next update, which will have a mail-out date that will coincide w/ the screening. And that's when you will all get your goodies! The t-shirt, the poster, the cookies, the business cards & the glorious copies of the film all are going to look fantastic & I can't wait to get them into your patient, generous, angelic lil hands.
THANK YOU for your kindness, patience & ALL the encouragement you've all been writing to us over this past year. We've cleared so many hurdles & we're SO close. I can hardly tell you how gratifying it is to be this close after six years. All I can say is that we humbly thank you.
My very best,
shotgun & producer
