'Paint Drying' has been delivered to the BBFC
Yesterday afternoon, I dropped off a DCP copy of Paint Drying at the BBFC's offices in Soho Square, ahead of its examination next Monday.
For those who don't know, a DCP (Digital Cinema Print) is an industry-standard format for screening films theatrically. It consists of multiple high-fidelity audio files as well as a series of high-resolution still images — one for every frame of the film. In the case of a 607-minute film like Paint Drying, that adds up to 874,080 individual still frames.
It's no easy task to make such a long DCP — in fact, I'm not aware of such a long one ever having been made before — and I'd like to thank backer Sam Cuthbert for his expertise and assistance in producing this one.
