About

Credence Filter is a single-player action RPG in development for PC.

 Demo contains the first dungeon of the game and first act overworld. The completed game will feature 4 acts, each with 3 dungeons, and an intro and outro area. 

 Read the README.txt in zip file for more information on the demo.

Note: Game contains use of alcohol, tobacco, and energy drinks and can realistically simulate standing on a toilet in the darkness.

 \\:A Strange Future

The world has been demolished overnight, becoming a home to aliens, robots, ghosts, mothmen, and people who eat mushrooms, but something somehow weirder and much more sinister lies in wait beneath the world itself.

You play as Tohm Shlcszark, a broken man and cashier at Burger Cop. Intergalactic aliens have chosen you to defeat the menace that threatens Terra Sol, and give the world a chance to survive.

Should you accept your mission, you will face apocalypse alone, with only your trusty gardening implement.

\\:Denizens of Malbaris

Many terrifying creatures, and couple less-terrifying humans, have found new residence in Malbaris, the ruined capital of Ruesis. 

Eckil, the transhuman zombie-like remnants of the human race, dominate the interior of the city. They are kept at bay by the Aoieroart Privacy, the trusted military and police of the Aoieroart Corporation. 

Beyond the city, a battle is waged between the Motti, a subterranean race attempting to claim the surface, and the other forces fighting for control.

As you fight through these mysterious invaders, you will come across friendly humans, who may or may not have gone insane. Ignore them, or help them, you could even kill them, but your actions may haunt you. The friendly people you kill will haunt you, though, creating new obstacles and spectacles for you on your journey.

\\:Supernatural Powers

You are one of the few humans with the latent ability to channel Ghostspace with your mind, you lucky weirdo. There are many applications of this, including "magic" attacks, using Gravity to increase your power, and the ability to see ghosts.

Ghosts can provide valuable insight. They can also be less useful; imprints of a human's Gravity in Ghostspace aren't very smart.

Throughout your journey you will accumulate Charms. These trinkets can have varying effects on Tohm, from slight stat increases to the ability to control swarms of murderous black moths with only your mind. 

These charms can dramatically change your play-style for a unique experience.

\\:Help Me Finish This Game

In order to finish this game in a reasonable amount of time, I need to work on it as a full-time job. I am prepared to do this but, in order for it to be possible, I will need wages. If this campaign is successful, I can work on the game full-time, I can afford better hardware (cutting down on compiling time could save me weeks of time, cumulatively), and I can afford legal and licensing fees.

I am very passionate about this project, and want to see it completed.

If you want to see it completed as well, support this Kickstarter campaign. Think of it as pre-purchasing the game to ensure its existence.

\\: About Me

I've been breathing for 23 years, and I've been making video games for 12 of them. Though you wouldn't want to see the 12 year old ones, you can find many of the more recent ones here. I also play a lot of video games, if that wasn't inherently evident.

I'm also an artist trying to capture some emotion that I have never heard a word for. I want to share this emotion with others, and the only way is to convey it through art.

I work very hard, and I work alone so that I can control every facet of a game, making it more cohesive. Having the understanding of how every aspect of the game is built allows me to more quickly and effectively add new content and features to it. 

\\: Stretch Goals

I have no specific stretch goals in mind, but any extra money can go toward luxuries like getting booths at conventions, getting better sound editing/recording equipment, and promotion of the game.

Risks and challenges

There isn't much that could go wrong with the development of Credence Filter.
It's possible that it wouldn't make it through Steam Greenlight, although that's very unlikely. If this happens, I will sell the game through GOG or itch.io, and find a way to still get free copies for backers of $20 or more.
