Waveform Wipeout is a game where the player must surf on (and do rad tricks off of) audio waves. Get mad air and pull off sick tricks on levels that are generated based on the music you’re listening to. If you’re good enough, perform a variety of tricks and chain them together into a combo. Land the combo to score points and compete for the high score. Think Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater meets Guitar Hero in beautifully rendered 2D pixel art.
Because the levels are created dynamically, you can surf a nearly infinite number of levels. Just load any song from your hard drive! The base goal of the campaign will be used to license music for an accompanying soundtrack by amazing indie artists that will be included with the game.
The aesthetic of Waveworm Wipeout is inspired by 80s cyberpunk films like Blade Runner, done in a mix of traditional pixel art and modern rendering technology. We want to create visuals that are evocative of classic sci-fi pop culture while keeping with modern aesthetics. We want Waveform Wipeout to be more than just a game. It is a whole new way to experience the music you know and love, while also being exposed to new music.
- Follow the beat of the music and the prompts on screen in arcade mode for that authentic rhythm game experience.
- Surf the waves and do whatever tricks your heart desires in freestyle mode.
- Unlock new characters and environments by playing through story mode.
- Load any wav, mp3, or ogg file and surf the waveform of your music.
- Create and save playlists of your favorite music.
- Enjoy the ride in chill mode and surf along to a random mix of music based on your mood.
- Select what frequency range you want to surf on. Play the bass, mid range, or high end of a song!
We are hard at work talking to a number of indie artists to create a killer soundtrack to include with the game. Don't waste any time, and jump right in and play music by amazing indie artists. If we reach our goal, the story mode will feature songs by:
... and more!
Our base funding goal will allow us to release on Steam with PC, Mac, and Linux support. If we raise enough money, we would love to bring Waveform Wipeout to Playstation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and even iOS and Android!
Record a ghost of your runs and challenge other players to beat your high score. Surf along side another player's ghost and try to beat their high score!
A digital companion soundtrack will be released along side the game. If we reach this stretch goal the companion soundtrack will be made available as an add on to existing backers and added as a backer tier.
In addition to licensing existing music from indie artists, we will have artists create original music for Waveform Wipeout and the accompanying soundtrack.
Play with a friend while each of you surfs a different frequency range and work together to get the highest combined score. We will also create a second playable character for Player 2.
We have been working on Waveform Wipeout for several months now, and we're very happy with where we are. We have most of the core features working and can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, but we need your help with one crucial part of development. We want to ship with a variety of music to be featured in game so it can be enjoyed immediately without requiring players to have music already downloaded on their computer. We also believe that artists should be paid fairly for the use of their work! We have worked out licensing deals with a number of artists, but we are a small studio currently working out of pocket and we need help covering the costs of licensing their music. Waveform Wipeout is a work of love, and we will find a way to continue working on it, but we need your help to make it everything we know it can be. Without reaching our goal, we will only be able to release the game with the song loading feature and no included soundtrack. Our ultimate vision is to constantly add new music to the game and for Waveform Wipeout to be a platform for discovering cool indie music.
Risks and challenges
Creating any video game is a long and difficult process, and Waveform Wipeout is no exception. There is still a lot of work to be done to insure that the dynamic level generation is fun and engaging for as many songs as possible. However, we have solved some of the hardest challenges already, like creating a level dynamically based on the music track that is playing and loading music from the player's hard drive. We have a really solid prototype already, we just need your help crossing the finish line!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
