ENTROPY – Thematic Fast-Paced Game of Risk and Deception

AU$ 69,590

Five parallel worlds have collided and you play as one of five characters jettisoned from their world into a place called the Nexus. Through the use of unique character abilities and special actions, players must find fragments of their reality and be the first to piece them back together in order to find their way home.

Entropy is a fast-paced competitive card game of risk and deception, combining simultaneous action selection mechanics with order resolution.

Each player's reality has been shattered into fragments and they are trying to be the first to piece it back together in order to save their world and return home.

Each reality is made up of four fragments. Once collected, these fragments create a stunning panorama representing your character's world. Each world is beautifully illustrated by artist Mike Yakovlev.

Each turn, every player selects a single action from the five they have available, keeping it hidden from their opponents. At the same time all players reveal their chosen action.

Entropy uses a clever action resolution system, based on initiative values, to determine play order. The lowest value goes first. But, there's a catch. Should two or more players select the same action, then neither of them get to perform their action.

Entropy has an emphasis on social interactions where players are continuously trying to second guess each other in hopes their action will resolve. You never quite know what your opponent might play next.

However, there's another twist. Take the Anchor token, using the "Phase Shift" card, and you're now guaranteed that future action will resolve, even if you clash with another player. Careful though, other players can take it from you just as easily, so make it count.

Instead of just writing about it, how about we show you? Watch below as we explain the rules whilst playing a two player game.

We also have a four-player gameplay video with commentary. We recommend watching the Gameplay Walkthrough video above if you are not familiar with the rules before watching the video below.

Included in every copy of Entropy is an exclusive antique finish, double sided, metal Anchor token. This is used instead of the Anchor card that comes standard with the game.

It is approximately 40mm in diameter and weighs about 28g (1 oz.). The Anchor token is a great weight, has a nice feel in the hand, and a high level of detailing.

This is exclusive to Kickstarter rewards and will not be available in the retail version. Once this campaign is over, we'll keep a small number of Anchor tokens to take with us to conventions and special events, but it will not be generally available.

*Please note that the design is not final

Want to see what the game is all about before pledging? No worries! You can download the preview Print & Play edition, which includes black & white versions of all the cards in the base game, along with the latest rulebook.

Entropy is the second game Alistair and I designed and developed. It is the cumulation of the skills we've learned from our previous game along with the skills acquired through our profession, applied to a project we truly care about.

We're on Kickstarter to raise the funds needed to manufacture Entropy. We are at the point where almost everything is ready except for manufacturing. This is the point where we cannot go any further without your help. With your support, we can make this game a reality!

Our Thanks To

  • Gold Coast Board Games Club members who helped us play-test our game.
  • YOU, our backer! While we can put in the work, without you, we cannot turn this project into reality. So thanks to all our backers for your support!

Risks and challenges

This is our second Kickstarter project, and we've learnt a lot. We have the knowledge and experience to see this project through. There are always elements of risk to any project and we've identified the following areas that introduce the most risk and pose the biggest challenges for the project:

STRETCH GOALS
––––

To help avoid over-reaching, we've pre-planned all the stretch goals. They have been carefully considered, budgeted, and will not impact on the final delivery timeframe. We're also concentrating on the funding goal first before we announce any stretch goals. Then, when we hit each stretch goal, we'll list up the next one only. This will give us an opportunity to double check our figures before we start making promises that could jeopardise the project.

MANUFACTURING
––––

Drawing from our previous experiences in both the print industry, and our Rise to Power campaign, we know how to to produce a high quality game. We've set up manufacturing supply chains with several component manufacturers and are confident we can produce a top notch product. We've also learnt from the hiccups we faced during Rise to Power, and we've brought that to the table this time around.

SHIPPING & FULFILMENT
––––

Shipping can add significant delays, and much of the process is largely out of our control. To mitigate this we will be sending rewards directly to backers from a fulfilment centre in China. This will reduce overall postage costs and allow us to get rewards to backers much quicker.
